Nuri Sahin

Interesting, who will pay his wages? Knowing Liverpool, they will do that probably.

Do you think he'll win his place back? Who will he replace?

There are various possibilities if he reaches his old form:
I think Klopp might try to play him alongside Gündogan in a 4231 - at least against weaker domestic opposition. 3 man (central)midfield together with Bender would also be a possibility. If someone from offensive midfield is missing we might see Gündogan playing behind Lewandowski and Sahin taking his regular spot alongside Bender. And depending on both players form he might ofc take Gündogan's spot 1 for 1.

I think first of all he will need some time to settle in again though.

Didn't Liverpool have some option to purchase him after the loan expired? And does that mean he will go back to his club and be sold, or will it not be until summer?

It's official now.

They made a loan deal until the end of the 2013/2014 season (local press already reported that they have a buy clause). Watzke said Sahin let go of a lot of money in order to fit into Dortmund's wage structure.

I think it will actually not be too easy for him to get his starting spot back, it will be hard for him to get past Gündogan but Dortmund needs the squad depth if they want to keep competing on all fronts.

If Gündogan is out they essentially have no one to really replace him and they need someone to rotate with him.

Either way Dortmund will profit in the end - especially since it's a loan.

Yes - he's not exactly a very dynamic type of player. But I'm sure Klopp will find a way to work around that.

Interesting turn of events, back to the club where he shined brightest - albeit on loan. Lesson learned about bolting for the bright lights of the capital club perhaps when things were already great at Dortmund?

Hope he does well but it's only a loan

Probably the best move for him. Didn't really adapt to the pace of this league.

Can't see him easily displacing Gundogan in that Dortmund side.

Dortmund seems to have a buy option at the end of the loan. Reliable local press reported that and when directly asked about a buy clause Michael Zorc (Dortmund's director of sports, who does the negotiations) said that although Real and Dortmund agreed not to reveal details he can say that Dortmund will be in the driving seat - which in German sounded like an evasive confirmation.

Very nice, thanks for that. I hope it works out for him, 18 months puts it to WC14 with half his RM deal still in play. But, if a buy option is indeed included, works for the player & Dortmund. I feel pretty confident Klopp will once again get the most out of the Turk

The funny part is when he was playing for Dortmund he still wasn't the fastest but seemed to be running in a completely different gear than he did for Real and Liverpool.

Somehow Klopp has the ability to make almost any player to step it up a notch.

Great news, hopefully Sahin can now get his career back on track.

Loved him at Dortmund, hopefully he can regain that form.

They are short in depth so even if he doesn't make his way straight back into the first team, he'll get plenty of time. Apart from Gundogan and Bender they don't really have good central midfielders.

5m and a 100k/week.. hehe
Sahin's salary at Dortmund a reported 3m Euros per year.

Will be interesting to see how Klopp will fit him into the team.

Gündogan, Sahin, Bender, Kehl as options in the centre - reckon Leitner will be moved out wide to replace Perisic, who's signed for Wolfsburg.

It's a really good move for him, career-wise. He still has a lot of developing to do as a player and Dortmund should know how to raise him back to the levels he can achieve.

And he can play in the CL, can't he?

Replacing Bender when he moves to United?

I wouldn't think so, he isn't the same type of player or good enough defensively. Maybe against the weaker teams he could partner Gundogan, but I expect Bender or Kehl to generally be preferred and Sahin to rotate with Gundogan for the other midfield spot.
