Nuri Sahin

He is going over for a season with no option to make it permanent.
Unless he is a fan of Liverpool or hates Arsenal, a London club in the CL would easily be the preferred destination over a club in the Europa league that finished 8th and is going to struggle to break into the top 4

I think its just Madrid sending him to a club where he is almost certain to get game time and if he does make it will go back without any complications of a pre-arranged transfer fee. I've been told he plays as a deep lying playmaker in the Carrick mould which would be perfect for Madrid seeing as Alonso hasnt signed a contract extension.

According to Ballague, Liverpool have paid 5m Pounds for his one season. Add that to his 120k wages. Makes it around 10m pounds to keep him for a season!

Surely not. Not even LFC are that fecking stupid.

For one, I doubt they're paying him 120k a week in wages.

I heard they agreed to pay a higher proportion of his wages than Arsenal, and we were rumoured to have stuck him on £70k and were trying to make Real Madrid pay the rest.

They are that stupid, and I'm sure the reason we pulled out was simply because we didn't want to spend £8-10m on someone for one year.

Shelvey's Chernobyl children exchange programme has finished I believe.

You're correct, Spearing was seen leaving the premises some time ago....

Excessive fee, especially when you consider Song went permanently for £15m.

Can someone explain to me why Arsenal would have had a problem with this alleged 14m option at the end of the loan?

Surely it just meant that if they rate him they sign him permanently for £1m less than they sold a key member of their best XI that plays the same position. If they don't rate him then he's off back to Madrid. Win win. What's their beef?

Just speculating but probably 2m loan fee this season, then 14m to buy him.
That's 16m spent on him.
He is on 120k/week, which is quite quite high for someone who only had one good season.

For someone who R.Madrid bought for 8 or so pounds, he has done nothing at Madrid to demand 14m. Plus Arsenal would be taking quite a huge bulk of wages off their shoulder already, so he should be worth less than 10m pounds.

That's how Arsenal work. Logic says they are correct. Logic says they can afford to be that stringent as there are already many midfielders in their squad.

Logic says you were wrong to flog your best midfielder for £15m.

And you played fecking Diaby in the middle on the opening day, you could use another CM.

I think the £14m thing has to be false, in some way.

It seems as if Madrid have decided they don't want to include a buy-option at any cost, and Liverpool were happy with that.

Needless to say, I'd have been pretty annoyed had we taken on the deal Liverpool have done. I'd be pretty annoyed if we weren't willing to get him if he was really available for £14m though too.

And he had a good game.
Wilshere, Rosicky, Ramsey, Coquelin, Chamberlain didn't start that day.
We have that much quality to rely on for the entire season.

Song out, Coquelin in.

Arsenal logic.

That would average 25 million euros to have him on a 5 year contract , not that outrageous compared to some fees tbh

Except for the fact that you cant sell him at the end and youll have to constantly balance between playing a better player whose leaving in a few months, or players that actually play for you; its just delaying their problem. They dont have a good midfield unless they play lucas allen and gerrard; and if they do use that they have to play downing. With sahin gerrard will be able to play further forward, but both'll be off soon and thats 2 of their best players out of an already weak and thin squad.

25 million over 5 years, plus wages with no resale value is what this deal looks like according to yor logic. Almost as bad as rvps, and were getting a player in him prime after a great season and cutting the throat off a team that may have otherwise hinted at challenging us, and theyre getting a 23 yr old off the back of a wasted season who may not be 100% committed and who will take time out of other liverpool players.

I think arsenal didn't want Madrid a chance to back away from the £14m tag if he was a success

Our problem was we wanted to pay £14mill at the end of the deal, £2mill loan fee and something like 65% of his wages. Liverpool came in with an offer for £5mill loan fee, 70% of wages and no clause to buy. R.Madrid did not want to put that clause in so it suited them, we weren't willing to match Liverpool's offer where the player would cost them incl wages like £10mill and then they will have to hand him back to R.Madrid. He has had an injury & hardly played last so could take time to get back in the swing of things and we weren't willing basically to take him off R.Madrid, train him up, then give him back and on top pay for that privilege!

Good player but the dippers are overpaying yet again for someone who probably doesn't even want to play for them. I'm sure sahin would have much rather stayed at madrid if he had a chance of breaking into the team. Not sure why mourinho rates him so poorly

How much have you seen of him?
I havent seen much, but it looks like he was a talented player but most of his reputation was built on 1 great season with Dortmund.

Is he really that good or a bit overrated?

Can't wait for the usual script that Sahin will have to follow at the press conference:

"great city...fantastic manager....beautiful stadium...free flowing football...knowledgeable fans.... But Madrid wouldn't let me go to Arsenal so I'll just have to slum it in this shithole for 9 months."

From what i have seen of him, he really is that good. Whether or not he suits Mourinho's system is another matter. I think that's what it boils down to myself.

Sahin is an adventurous passer of the ball, and likes to pick out movement from deep areas. If you take that away from his game, because of the added risk of losing possession, then he will probably not be as good or as reliable as Alonso in the more disciplined role, Jose needs for the team.

I think he is a player to build your midfield around, rather than someone who will conform to a more limited role. He is a bit like Carrick and a bit like Scholes. But limit his freedom to contribute as he sees fit and you limit his effectiveness imo.

I believe Chief rates him as potentially the new Redondo, so it's not just me who rates him highly.

"I wanted to play for a club on the same level as Dortmund and Madrid - that's why I chose Liverpool."

He's a funny man.

A bit of a warped logic really, Dortmund & Madrid aren't on the same level and as for Liverpool.............

A shame to see him go there as I know he really wanted to join us but for his career it is better to be at Liverpool than on the bench at R.Madrid. Hope he does well at Liverpool, except for the matches against us :)

He does everything Adam's meant to do, just 10x better, and he can defend a bit too. Although at Dortmund he had the excellent Bender alongside him getting through most of the defensive work, does Allen play the same way? I thought he was more of a passer.
