Nuri Sahin

Pissed away his career the moment he left Dortmund. How on earth did he end up in Scouseland. :(

I can't believe how shite he's been for Liverpool. It's hard to see him ever reaching the heights he did with Dortmund two seasons ago.

A waste of a career.

I think Real Madrid should be blamed for this. They need to stop signing top players they have absolutely no need for! I know that Sahin struggled with some injuries, but even when he was fit he was nowhere near the first XI.

For 10 million(?), he could have gone to so many other good teams and made a huge impact. Hell, he could just have stayed in Dortmund! Look how well his old mates are doing now. It must be painful for him to watch.

Madrid are wankers for that alright. Sneijder, van der Vaart and Sahin are just three top quality midfielders whose careers stagnated for a bit due to moving there.

City are assuming Madrid's mantle for it now, though. Sinclair and Rodwell made the worst decisions of their careers in going there last summer.

Why? He could have stayed, played CL football and be a very important piece to bring his childhood club back to the top in europe. But he chose to run away from all that. It's not Real's fault, it's his own fault. No one to blame but himself imo. Everyone wanted him to stay, manager, coach, fans. He didn't care.

Every player should know the risk for signing with teams like Chelsea, Real or City. About the possibily to sit on the bench or not even make the squad. They don't care about the player's career, just for the shortterm success. So when you decide to take the risk, don't blame the system. You should have known what to expect.

I don't think it's that simple... When a club like Madrid comes knocking, you really can't say no. The natural competitor in you will shout higher than your common sense. Professional athletes need to have a certain mindset in order to succeed. In other words: they can't be afraid of competition or facing tough challenges.

Exactly

When these players sign for Madrid, they fully expect to go there and be able to win a place in the starting line up. Lets not forget the massive pay rise that he would have got too.

Your point reminds me of Amir Khan's fight last night. His opponent was emotionally crushed after losing. He really thought that he could beat Khan, when to a sensible observer comparing the two fighters skill sets, you would have given him next to no chance.

So how is it Madrid's fault? They can't buy a worse player for the same money just to save the player because he's not able to make a smart decision? I would have understood if he left a small team where he was clearly superior to all his team mates. But he left a great team and could have played champions league. If you're good enough to start for Real Madrid you will get the opportunity to play for one of the big clubs every year. It's not neccessary to leave the first time someone comes knocking and hope to play ahead of established world class players. A lot of player stayed for a while, didn't leave after just one great season.

Reus for example went to Dortmund, could have played for Bayern. Smart decision. And I'm pretty sure Reus has that certain mindset to succeed. He's just not overrating himself and prefers playing as a starter for a top club instead of sitting on the bench for a great club.

It's not the same though. It's not like Sahin had the choice between not playing at all and playing for Real. He could have played for Dortmund and thought he's helping to make Dortmund a better team than Real. That would be comparable to the fight last night. That's the spirit someone needs who wants to be the best. Leaving the small club and going to Real looks more like taking the easy way to your dream and earning more money on the way instead of building something and living the dream when you have worked for it.

I completely agree.

He even wanted to stay at Real Madrid this season eventough Mourinho said something like he doesn't count too much on him(between the lines, not directly).

Wenger had watched him for years, knew of him as he came through the ranks at Dortmund and knew the player inside out, he would of known exactly how to get the best out of him. R.Madrid were being awkward and basically forced him to choose them over us and Liverpool paying a large loan fee + more of his wages helped push it through but so far it has been a bad career move for him. He would of played a lot of games here and would of been around similar sort of players. Hopefully he improves as the season goes on.

How many times has he played for Liverpool? Waste of 5 million quid, if that's what they paid to take him on loan...

Shame! This guy was simply a phenomenon when he was at / left Dortmund! To have fallen so low that he is now being slated for his performances at a club like Liverpool is depressing.

I'd have liked him at United a while back but wouldn't touch him with a barge pole now he is getting slated whilst at Liverpool.

Why is Fergie not all over this. :(

To be honest, I'd be disgusted if Liverpool were able to get him on loan and we made no effort for him. We need to strengthen the midfield, it's as simple as that. This guy fits the bill perfectly. I'm astounded that we are not being linked with him.

Plus he would work brilliantly with Kagawa.

It seems more pride than anything though. "We won't loan a player off that virus to help him develop", despite needing a player like him in our team.

I can't believe Liverpool will have a better midfield than us.

This transfer makes too much sense for us to actually pursue it.

There's far too many of us on here who question transfers like this.

I've only seen him a couple of times with Liverpool but from what I've seen he looks just the same as he did at Real Madrid - peripheral to the action. Way back in the thread one of the Bundesliga watchers talked about him needing playing time, confidence and a team that plays to his strengths.

Blaming Madrid for failing to give him that is naive. How could they when he got the same kind of opportunities (coming off an injury) as players like Callejon but without giving them any kind of encouraging signs (unlike Callejon). It's a risk a player takes when he steps out of his comfort zone and goes to a big club.

Maybe he'll develop into a player who can deliver whether he's an automatic first choice or not, and whether the team is set up for him, or not. Otherwise he needs to get back to somewhere who'll give him the right structure. Liverpool did sound like a good move, for him and them. He's still got time for it to work out but I really think this is about him not the clubs.

When I have seen him for Liverpool this season he's looked off the pace and genuinely disinterested. Ambling around the pitch like he didn't care.

Scary, he looks talented and skillful. Should he have left Dortmund? Must be a real kick in the balls to get the call from Madrid and go there and find yourself somewhat out of favour. It's how you bounce back from that I guess.. Could have used this loan move to really show everyone his ability.

I feel more sorry for him than anything.

Klopp really got the best out of him. Even during both years, when he was excellent for Dortmund, he never stood out as a quality player for the turkish nationalteam. Not sure if it's about his mentality, if he really needs the team built around him or if he's only playing well in a certain tactical system. Dortmund is now an even better team than back in 2010/11 and I'm pretty sure most of the fans don't miss him anymore. Gündogan is probably already a better player than Sahin has been in 2010/11, way better than Sahin is now.

Still, I don't get why he can't find a way in Liverpool's formation. He should be able to play to his strength in a 3men midfield alongside Lucas and Gerrard.

I think hes similar to carrick, he needs movement around him and runners, liverpools pass and move game just doesnt suit him.

Dortmunds style fitted him massively, would like if he could return there, he could still be a valid player for them as there midfield isnt really full of depth.

Gündoğan is a quality player, there's no doubt now that Dortmund upgraded when they replaced Sahin with him.

It's still unbelievable how much Sahin deteriorated in the last 18 months, though.

There's far too many of us on here who question transfers like this.

And these people don't seem to realise that they spout the same nonsense over every half-decent player we don't sign. Yet they believe they are in a position to suggest that SAF is an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing. Ignorant and arrogant.

Hasn't been trusted in a deeper role in the league. Playing him at the tip of the midfield 3 has proved fruitless really and when he did play deeper vs West Brom in the league cup and a couple of Europa games he looked pretty good. Not sure if he's physically able enough for this league though - looks awfully slow, as if he's running through treacle. Big disappointment so far really but I hope he gets a few more chances.

Criminally underused. He's shown he's consistently capable of running games for title-winning sides at Dortmund, something the likes of Lucas, Allen and Gerrard have never done.

Rodgers hasn't seemed afraid of playing anyone he feels is up to it so if he's not being used it's because he's not showing he's up to it/adapted to the league yet.

According to reports today Liverpool are looking to cancel the loan deal.

What a bunch of wankers! You play Henderson, Downing and Shelvey but you cant give enough games to Sahin?

Hasn't he been utter shit while he's been there? They don't owe him anything. Why harm the progression of your own players to give games to a player who's not performing and is off in the summer?

I'd be fully backing that decision if I were a Liverpool fan, it's just been a terrible deal all-round and I don't see that changing. Not sure if he just really struggled with the pressure after moving on from Dortmund or whether he did just suit the system perfectly but whatever the case he's a nothing player at the moment. Not sure another big club will be going in for him after this.

When I was down with the newbies in the summer, half the posters seemed to want him here to fix our midfield problems... Thank God.

To be fair he looked like one of the most promising midfielders during his time at Dortmund but seemingly he has severe problems adapting to another league or another club, it's something you can't really anticipate before buying a player, I mean we had our own share of these players especially Veron comes to mind.

I don't understand what went wrong with Sahin. Admittedly I haven't seen much of him from his Dortmund days, I only cottoned on to the ITV2 Bundesliga highlights show last year, but there must have been a reason for the hype? But Mourinho showed zero interest in him the games I do remember him playing for Madrid were in defence and at Liverpool it just hasn't happened. If the talent was there in the first place its hard to understand why he hasn't been able to make some kind of mark. Was he just another FM legend?

He looked class at Dortmund, I think the move to Madrid knocked him back he barely played for a full season, it must be hard to then move to another league and be expected to settle in straight away. No doubt he should be doing better but he's had a bad 18 months really. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in Germany soon.

He was player of the year in Germany so he has talent. Liverpool didnt play him in his favourite position-deep lying CM. I still wouldnt mind seeing him at united because I think Fergie could get him back to his best. Would be brilliant backup/long term replacement for Carrick if he recaptured his best.

Even if he had gone to Arsenal I think he would have done much better. Some players just cant click at certain clubs.

To be honest, I thought he was a cracking player. (Probably still is in the right set-up) but I was referring more to the fact that half the posters down there wanted him and were actually quite upset with Fergie for not even going for him.
