Woody dithering as usual, thinking that we could ever sign Ramos in a million years, and now we'll lose this one as well! Good signing for City this.

God help us,we are led by crazy manager and dithering woody.

I am not sure about Woody dithering in this case, Valencia value him at €50m and we dont seem to value him that highly. If LVG tells Woodie that we need Otamendi I am sure he will push for it. I am starting to think we may actually not be in the market for a CB, which is madness when you look at Jones and Smalling's injury records...Jones just went down injured again for a few weeks FFS!

No madness in there, We still have Rojo and we want to develop McNair. Nothing is wrong with that.

No point him coming if he replaces Smalling, and LvG seems hell bent on playing a left footer so he probably would, add the fact he's stupid money, and from a country that we generally don't do well from, and that's enough to swerve it for me.

We blew £18 miilion, plus millions in wages for Nani to land Rojo last summer so we should stick him with Smalling and hope it works, my only concern is that LvG seems determined to play Blind whenever he is fit, which could mean him as first choice and Rojo as back up which has to be a worry.

I'd love Ottamendi to come but he's not worth 50m EUR. Not at all.

And how can City pay 50m having already bought Sterling and apparently close to KdB, given the FFP.

Still don't see why we would want him, surely if we do sign another cb they would be left footed and good on the ball.

He is also small for a cb and LVG has complained about our lack of height as well, factor in the ridiculous price nd fact he has only had one good season and it just doesn't add up unless we are desperate and are going to ditch the left footed cb idea again.

can you imagine the logic in buying Otamendi, dropping smalling and playing Blind and Otamendi? :nervous:
With LvG I wouldn't be surprised if he pairs Blind and Carrick(ball playing defender) and Otamendi and Smalling sit on the bench.

You'd think Van Gaal came straight from MK Dons the way some people on here talk about him. He won the Bundesliga and La Liga, as well as the Champions League. His track record deserve to cut him a bit of slack.

also Bronze medal in World Cup.

and I would think Dutch league championships also?

FFP doesn't matter anymore. FIFA got their envelopes.

I agree the price is too high but there are very few alternatives, and leaving it so late doesnt give us wiggle room. Its clearly better to sign him for a bit too much than not get a CB in

Don't want him if he's going to be played with Blind in all honesty. Smalling does not deserve to be dropped

Way overpriced.
Do not want him to replace Mikey.
Not good on the ball, so confused why would VG be in for him.
Rather have someone younger in Varane, Laporte or Stones.

Too few good available centre backs, which is unbelievable. I like Otamendi but it seems we will not go for him, leaving us very few realistic options (Stones, De Vrij?) or just wait for Jones/Rojo to get better. Otamendi is the best of the lot right now.

Simple answer is, they can't. But as if tabloid journos are capable of applying such basic common sense.

City can't afford to be bringing in more non-homegrowns than they're selling either, the free space in their squad is only available to homegrowns, or u21s like Sterling. And that's after cutting the likes of Negredo, Dzeko and Jovetic.

Surely he is just way too overpriced. If anything we've learned from this year's summer dealings is that we won't pay more than we value the player.
smalling will also not be dropped because he has been good at of late, he brings the ball out regularly as the manager wants, and I'm sure he is vice captain or vice vice captain

FFP has been relaxed massively

After Mendes tried fecking us over, I thought we would be done with this shit. I would rather put a part of that money on Stones instead.

They got Delph as well. They'll be fine.
It's difficult to write this but they are probably now a better attraction than us. They're a lot more likely to win trophies at the moment and don't have a manager that splits opinion. Money also seems to be no object.

The younger fans never got to know what it is like to be doubting the current manager ever since the reign of SAF (except maybe his first years and obviously Moyes but bear with me). But we are now like every other club with questioning our manager. I have read so many times the past years; Pelligrini out, Wenger out, Rodgers out, Benitez out, Pep out (some want him gone at Bayern), Mourinho out (at Real), Ancelotti out, Luis Enrique out and I can keep on going. Nowadays, practically every manager split opinions. If the amount of doubting fans at the beginning of a season are a measure of forecasting potential silverware, there would be no trophies to be won at all.

Has he had an incredible improvement over the last 18 months or so? Seem to remember the reception to the rumours of us signing him last year was lukewarm at best. Now many people seem to be calling him "amazing" and demanding we spend 50 million on him.

His performance against Barcelona was downright ridiculous. Best individual performance I can remember from a defender for a long time.

And it's 35 million pounds I think.

exactly and your talking about the best attackers in the world by a comfortable distance. So many are underrating Otamendi its crazy. Him and smalling would be in my opinion one of the best CB pairings in the world, especially if Smalling continues to grow and progress. He is becoming a very top drawer defender. Feck this Right footed CB and Left footed CB shit. Smalling and Otamendi at the back would be imperious.

I'm not doubting him. I'm just saying that the general opinion of him is he is difficult to work with. That can affect potential signings.

They'll be a better attraction to some players but certainly not all. United have always been an attractive option and now you've got the added attraction of joining a new team being built to take the likes of City and Chelsea down.

We are a couple of good signings away from having a shout at the title.

Their manager does split opinion - some are of the opinion he's tactically limited and on borrowed time.

Money is less of an object for us I'd say.

Honestly though - listening to some on here you'd think we'd turned into an irrelevance overnight. A couple of seasons of transition and no silverware and we're a history lesson?

I think this is being overplayed tbh. He's got a fantastic track record and a long list of players he's worked with who speak glowingly of him. BFS wouldn't be here otherwise would he? Depay?

The way he operates polarises people yes but so did SAF as does Maureen and Pep. What they all have in common is that they are winners and players want to play for managers who deliver.

I suppose the papers don't help with all the ex-player hate stories.

I never said that.

It's your narrative though isn't it? City are more attractive, will win more, got more money, players don't like LVG etc The inference is that we aren't as powerful as we were and I'd dispute that,

Are you a United fan?
