So City can't get this deal cause they are haggling over money and DeBruyne is still not done despite them being after him all summer. Seems transfers ain't easy to complete.

Yup, and Chelsea still submitting multiple low bids for Stones a couple of weeks before the window closes. And yet come next season when United don't have all of their transfers in by the 1st June, we'll get the same old "I wish we handled our transfers more like Chelsea and City, no messing around."

To be fair to Chelsea this is a first for them. Last summer they got Fabregas, Matic, Filipe Luis and Costa so easily.

This is your fault the deal is done a few hours later...

Expensive, but I do think he will make them more solid and it certainly strengthens them where they need it most.

Both City and Chelsea still have potential cover issues if they get injuries to key players but they are looking strongest at the moment.

Who do I blame for this?

UEFA/Platini/whoever for being too lenient?
Otamendi for being a glory-hunting cock?
Woodward for not trying?
LVG for not wanting?
Redcafe transfer thread for getting my hopes up?
FM2013 for even alerting me to this guy?

Actually I'm going to vent it all towards Johnny Evans

If LVG wanted Otamendi, he would be here IMO. Its too bad, once Pedro gets here we are only one solid CB away from making a serious run at the EPL and Champs league.

Not too worried about this, watching the first two City games Mangala actually looked not bad compared to his first season he looked decent. They've just won there first two games with clean sheets as well so it's not like they have problems in defense. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If anything it's Kompany who is the one who has mistakes in him with his rashness.

woah there... we could make a challenge for the CL - chelsea are not in form yet, arsenal have looked poor and if Aguero gets a knock city are not that much better than us... But CL - Barca, Real, Bayern... thats a different proposition completely and I think we would need a better team and a lot of luck to even get to the semi's this season

I beg to differ, once Pedro arrives we have a lot of pace, trickery and off the ball running that will open up a lot of space and really make the team click.

Depay-Rooney-Pedro is a very solid front 3 and with the now-massive midfield we have behind them we should be able to challenge almost any team....our problem against the very stong teams will be our defense....Smalling is really coming along but neither Rojo nor Jones are good enough at this level IMO. A hard, seasoned CB like Otamendi is exactly what our team has needed since Vidic left.
well we needed an OG against Spurs and were very lucky not to concede a penalty against Villa so whilst Pedro may improve us I am far from convinced he puts us up in the European elite - Id love to be wrong though

I'm very interested in seeing what Otamendi has to offer, highly rated in these parts. I hadn't heard of him until 3 months ago.
Good defender who's had ONE great season. I think he will do well but i don't see why they should drop Mangala on current form. We probably needed him more than City.

Thats the thing...we needed him more than City did.

man... he is being massively over-rated by some of the posters here. City are overpaying for him.

Signing should be made official tomorrow. He had a medical this morning and Valencia supposedly requested no announcement tonight because of their CL match.

Massive money, Valencia made a good deal for a player who wanted out. Still not convinced by his attitude or game.

£32m is a lot but they are getting one of La Liga's best defenders for that money and I doubt City care if they make a loss. They spent £36m or something on Mangala last season and Otamendi is more proven and most likely better than him.

The issue with him coming here was probably that he is right footed and not Ramos. If we had wanted him as much as people seem to think we had then he would have been here by now.

I never wanted this guy, he's not worth over 20M IMO. Smalling is better for us than this guy.
