Assuming Pedro and Otamendi arrives, that would be 11 Spanish speakers. If DDG stays, Johnstone is likely to go on loan. 11 vs. 12.
Valdes probably leaves as well. So could one of our defenders (Evans probably) if we sign a CB.

With Otamendi our first choice defence (hopefully) would be: Darmian - Smalling - Otamendi - Shaw

Second choice: Valencia - Jones - Rojo - Blind

Third choice: Varela - McNair - Evans - Blackett

That is some fecking depth we'd have.

And come next summer people will be crying again for the club to sign another CB because we concede more goals than the champions assuming it's not us.

Smalling Ottamendi > Smalling Blind/Rojo

Hate to break it to you, but LvG likes his LCB to be left-footed so it's either/or with Smalling and Otamendi.

Now, if only there were any good left-footed CBs... Are there any top ones actually, other than Chiellini? Christ, this generation of defenders is complete dogshit.

Otamendi regularly plays as the left sided CB at both Valencia and Argentina. In fact, he plays next to Rojo for the Argies (with Rojo at LB). If he's not deemed acceptable as a left-sided CB for van Gaal then god help us all.

My god this Left footed LCB is the dumbest and most frustrating thing we have had to deal with regards to weird tactics from Van Gaal. Whats the point

He prefers yes, doesn't mean thats what will happen (as we saw last season with Jones Smallling)

Otamendi is the one I always wanted, even when I was saying Ramos it was really Otamendi. Yep.

Yes pretty sure he is normally on the left of a pair.

Him and Mike would be tough as old boots.

One of the few defenders who know how to defend against Barca's three charging attackers. Whoever gets him will get a reasonable boost in their Champions League campaign.

Looks like he's going to City then lads.

If being a left footed cb is so important, why doesn't it apply to left wingers? I know they cut in but still when being pressured being left footed on the left wing would be easier?

If he goes to City this place is going to go into meltdown.

We've pretty much covered all the bases with this LCB always being left-footed bollox - that i'm actually gonna have to get counseling, sleeping pills & possibly hypnosis to rid the dark thoughts from my napper..

I can just picture it: We sign Otamileftie, but Blind & Rojo are both injured for the Derby at the Emptihad & LvG pairs Blackett & Smalling, with Otamileftie on the bench..

If he goes to City, when we could have got him for the price that City paid (release clause of £35m) anytime from the start of the window - then LvG will have royally f*cked up chasing the impossible Ramos & losing out to La Liga's best CB last season..

Well, looks like he's off to city.

Prefers only means one thing with van Gaal. I'm not being negative, I've followed him since the 90s and if you look back over his management history he has very rarely played right-footed CBs out left. Usually does when it's part of the squad he inherits, but he gets it sorted pretty quick.

In fact, he tried: Rojo, Blind... he persisted a fair bit with that whenever possible (injuries didn't help much, tbh). I would be very surprised if he goes out and signs someone for top dollar to play LCB and the guy is right-footed. It won't happen. I know Otamendi usually plays on the left of a partnership, but there's no way LvG wants to sign him to play there.

Some eejit has probably found out a way into the site and edited the entry just to enrage all of the other United-supporting eejits on the internet.

Not to mention we could really use simply an experienced defender like it was in pretty much every United's era during last twenty years.

The sleeping giant must awaken.
