Yes please, seems we waited on Ramos, but he seems to sign a new contract, we are now hopefully back for Otamendi. Love you Ed

I still reckon it's more likely it will be City. They are going all out with him and De Bruyne.

If we got Pedro and Otamendi this will have been perfect window.

Keep DDG and sign them two and it will be perfect. Still reckon it'll be City if he does move to the PL though.

Because Van Gaal could do this.

Ottamendi predominately plays LCB (even though he is right footed) I think is the point the poster was making.
LVGs obbsession with left footed players at LCB is reduced when the player is at least competent with his left foot (Evans)

What? Why would he play a LCB at RCB ahead of our best defender (whos natural position is RCB)!? Our best defender by a LONG shot. Makes no sense.

Because of the left foot/right foot balance thing. Otamendi is right footed.

You're right, it does make no sense. However, neither does playing Blind as a CB when we had one of Smalling or Jones on the bench, yet LVG was going to do that.

Add in his recent comments that seemed to suggest RCB was where he was looking to strengthen and previous reports that he was specifically looking for a right sided CB....

There's reason to worry.

Still think Oatenmendi is a last ditch signing. LVG wants a ball playing CB

All due respect RB - but who gives a flying f*ck if it's a plan B type signing & he's not Xavi in defence. This whole "ball-playing CB" thing is ridiculous anyway - all top-class CB's can pass a bloody ball & do it well.

Ramos was obviously the number one target, but Otamendi is absolutely superb & is younger too - he's not 28 til Feb..

Proper warrior this lad is & a massive goal threat from set-pieces too. I wanted us to get him from day one of the rumours.

He'd be a brilliant signing & he's a leader aswell..

Looking to strengthen RCB when both Otamendi & Ramos play LCB? Again, think people are overreacting because LvG is a bit of a weirdo. No chance Smalling is getting dropped.

So we're going to drop Smalling then?
That really would be an anti-climax if we signed him just to play next to Blind. Have hope in the fact that he's played LCB all his career.

He could also drop him for Jones, so i dont see what Otamendi has to do with it.

I think you all are missing the point. LVG is crazy and could play blind at LCB with Otamendi because right footed. Was more just taking the piss at LVG team selections and his craze over left footed CB's

Don't think Smalling is that undropable, Jones could well have been starting ahead of him if he hadn't been injured.

Hopefully you're right and we are overreacting but I won't be able to shake this nasty suspicion until we see what happens.

I'm almost sure that LVG always talks about right sided, left sided players and not footed. When you think about it, it's like the position of Vidic used to change whether he was playing with Ferdinand or Evans Center backs are more comfortable on one side.

If we manage to land Otamendi and Pedro, this must surely be one of our best transfer windows (if not the best) on paper?

Van Gaal had already implied that he was dropping Jones in the PSG post-match interview, before the injury happened. He said Shaw, Darmian and Blind would definitely be starting, but left out mentioning Jones.

In terms of incoming players, yeah. If we manage to keep De Gea then it will be brilliant. Only shame is we haven't bought another striker and Rooney is not looking exactly world class at the minute.

@Red Hand Devil

Don't get me wrong, I think Otamendi is a fantastic defender. But I'm not managing the side. Signing him does not automatically mean that LVG will play what I think will be our best CB pairing, he will probably still continue with Blind at CB. And in my opinion, a partnership of Blind and Otamendi is only marginally better than a partnership of Blind & Smalling

Otamendi and Pedro (and keeping De Gea) would be outfeckingstanding. Would mean we've addressed every single area of weakness (with Pedro added to the attack we could get by with Rooney and Hernandez).

I think Rojo will replace Blind once he's match-fit. It leaves us with Otamendi-Rojo or Smalling-Rojo. With our injury record, and being in the CL this year, we will need to rotate our CBs every now and then anyways.

That's the fear RB - that LvG will still insist on playin a LCB because he's left-footed & not because he's better than a RCB..

It'll be utter & absolute f*cking nonsense & stupidity, if he plays Blind ahead of Smalling or (hopefully) Otamendi.

This is gonna wreck heads to a whole new level if we see Blind playin instead of those 2. It would be chaos on here..

I am pessimistic with both this and Pedro. I know we have first choice signings etc and we obviously did not get them (Ramos and Bale) so it was always going to be wait and see , but i dunno i just feel weary and worry we could end up with neither and go forward with what we have ...

If that is the case as long as Lingard and Perreira get given games then i will be happy.

I love Mata but unless we are on it all the time in a game he goes missing and never has a moment of brilliance that turns a game round and that is where the likes of Perreira and Lingard should be considered if Pedro does not come.

As for Otamendi- yes he was great last year but is he that much better than what we have already?

Just hope we make no desperate buys in the last week of the window.

Calm down, you are only discussing potential scenarios thusfar. Besides, Blind didnt play that badly in the opening game aye ?
