The final was the poorest game he had in the tournament, the left side with him and Rojo on as the one Chile exploited several times. Ovberall he had a good competition though.

Yep, i'm sure we will get one of them or a comparably good defender. LvG seems to want a top quality CB this summer. Either or would do, although Otamendi would be preferable since he is younger, would be cheaper and would allow us to keep DDG.
I don't think they're very good imo, Jones has huge comedy value but he is pretty clumsy and you don't quite know what he will do, Rojo I really don't rate him sporting Lisbon is probably his level, evans is terrible but hopefully will be gone, smalling is by far our best but collectively they are hugely injury prone. It was so bad last season and we barely played any matches. Next season we are going to be playing wed/tues games then again on sat/sun.
Yeah I forgot otemendis release clause was as high as it is, I still think we should bring in 2 CB next season though, maybe one of Ramos or otemendi then a cheaper option. As I said above I don't think we can rely on our current defenders when there's such a short turnaround between games.
I hope we don't get Ottamendi. He's another Rojo - unconvincing.

I see he's been included in the team of the tournament so he must have had a decent tournament. I bloody wish Sky bought the rights to show these games instead of the womans world cup so i could have seen more of him.

The worry with him and Ramos is that they are both 'just' 6 foot. I made fun of people who questioned whether to sign either because of their height, because I thought it would be one of them partnered with Smalling. TWO of them at that height, no matter how good they are supposed to be in the air, is a worry in the Premier League.
If they were 6'1'' instead, it would have been great. But considering that they are only 6', I don't want them.
I hope we go for one of them and then sign Zat Knight.
Note: being more serious, Otamendi and Mustafi (both 1.84) worked well in La Liga last season. I also would say that both Otamendi and Ramos are brilliant in the air (better than Jones/Evans/Rojo definitely, probably better than Smalling too).
I'm not sure who I want more, I keep switching between Otamendi and Ramos.
This isn't about how aerially strong they're supposed to be, this is about how aerially strong they actually are. They've both got the leap, they've both got the timing, they've both got the aggression, I reckon they'd dominate the loftier aspects of Premiership footie like few other current CB partnerships, possibly to the point of getting us a handful of goals each season. I'd love it if we signed both but I can't see it happening.

He better be! The rumor that Madrid arent after him because he's already going to United would be the only real explaination as to why Madrid want his partner Mustafi to replace Ramos
Smalling is pretty good in the air, so if they're as good, or even better as you have it, then there should be absolutely no worries about height.
But yeah, I still can't see us getting both. I'd say most likely we'll get Otamendi to partner Smalling.

Truth be told, i want this guy more than Ramos, 27, very hungry for trophies and a great defender.
Never wanted Ramos in the first place, he's pretty much the worst CB of all time. Otamendi's where it's at!

Otamendi is cheaper, younger, less likely to get carded every week and nearly as good defensively. The main advantage of Ramos over Otamendi is that signing him would upset the Madridista scum.
We still wont have a CB that is any good on the ball but I am ready to see us buy this guy and forget the Ramos soap opera shit.

We should just splash on him and force de Gea to stay another year, and try to convince him to stay more as we challenge for the champions league. Otamendi is probably as good or better then Ramos defensively speaking, though ramos is obviously world class. The biggest difference is going forward and on the ball where Ramos is really good, but otamendi would be a huge improvement for us anyway and would be more hungry.
