Now that Momma Ramos has pissed in the Paella I think we should camp in the bearded ones thread, big game for him tonight and still our most likely option for a new CB I think.

Otamendi is likely 2nd or 3rd choice and currently with his NT, there's no hurry to sign him since he won't join the tour anyways. I'd rather we try and sign Ramos, only if that fails we move on since we still have time. Also not sure that what a mother has to say means much regarding transfers..

3rd choice? Who else would be ahead of him bar Ramos? Never underestimate the power of a Momma, look at Ronaldo. :(

No idea, but I didn't expect Ramos as a target either so the club might have an alternative. Thing is that the Otamendi transfer can be done quickly as Valencia won't budge for anything other than the release clause and since he won't join the tour there is no hurry to sign him. Ramos' mother just said she thinks he's staying, I can't imagine her saying otherwise even if he does want out.

I'd be happy enough if we sign Otamendi, but if it's genuenly between him and Ramos I know my (and likely van Gaal's) preference.

It's just hard to see who, there isn't a wealth of quality CB's out there right now, at least not many that are obtainable. It's true that Otamendi wouldn't join until later but my worry is that he's not going to like twiddling his beard as second choice and we could miss out if Ramos screws us.

Is that preference based off Ramos superior ability on the ball?

I assume he's 2nd choice but I just don't know, reports suggested so but aren't the most reliable. And indeed that's why I'd prefer Ramos, we don't really have a centreback at the club who's great with the ball at their feet and that could really help if we try to play football the van Gaal way.

I think we'll hear soon enough if RM gives Ramos his contract or not (before their tour aswell), media in Spain will be writing nonstop speculation till he decides on his future. If we miss out on Ramos I can't see any club beating us to the signing of Otamendi. The muppet in me is getting excited about Ramos is all' :D

Ramos would be my pick as well as I agree that his all round attributes would compliment our current CB's better, Otamendi is similar in style to Smalling and Jones, I guess I am just struggling to have much faith as Real are slippery and we have been burned before by new contract seeking players.

I hope you are right, in truth the sooner things are wrapped up one way or the other the better IMO, I don't want us starting another season with a bunch of moving pieces. Ramos/Otamendi, Schneiderlin and Coleman added to Memphis by August 8th at the latest.

McNair had one nightmare game (southampton) but looked calm and composed for most of the rest of the games I thought. Was nervous as feck everytime Blackett played though.

This guy needs to go, Whenever he had the ball I was shitting myself.

I think he was too...
True, I may have been harsh. Still I think out of all the youngsters this year he has been the weakest substantially.

By youngsters I mean Mcnair, wilson, januzaj and shaw. He's older than all of them as well.

Yeah I don't see Blackett making it at the top level.

I'd prefer we got Otamendi and kept De Gea. We wouldn't get fleeced like we would for Ramos and it would leave him unhappy at Madrid and Madrid without a keeper replacement.

Garay is Valencia's main target for CB according to a few of their local press and others saying they've agreed terms/a deal with Zenit. Decent Otamendi replacement.

I am watching the copa America and Otamendi has not put a foot wrong all tournament. He is tough as nails and wins just about every tackle he goes into.

I hope we don't get so engrossed with Ramos that we let Otamendi go, it would be a mistake on our part imo.

Both players want to change clubs it seems but Otamendi is definitely our main target for the summer way before this whole Ramos drama even started.

Otamendi and his agent both stated that they want out of Valencia. He is as good as gone.... With Ramos I suspect that if Madrid gives him the contract he wants he will stay.

We should get Ramos and Schneiderlin asap imo.

I don't see why we can't get both, together they might cost £60 million but so what we can afford it. They'd be a very formidable partnership.

Because we dont need to sign 2 expensive CBs and if we were going to, one would probably be left footed so LVG is completely happy with it

I don't think that we're ready yet to give up in one of Jones/Smalling/Rojo (assuming that we are going to sell Evans). 5 CB would be overkill.

Yes this would be my preference too. Especially if losing De Gea means getting Lloris who I don't think is that great

And for all we know...Dave may decide to extend during the next year. Especially if the Spanish speaking contingent here grows this summer.

It really looks like we can get him if we want to, not being biased of wumming etc. Is Woodward trying to bottle this transfer? He's the perfect alternative for Ramos and the best CB available. 37 million pounds would be a bit high, but still a good fee to strengthen out defence massively.

As yiu said. He is the perfect alternative for Ramos. Ramos is very much on so feck Otamendi very muchos.

Agreed. We really don't need 2 experienced CB's unless we move Smalling or Jones. We'll have Rojo, Smalling, Ramos, Ottamendi and Jones for 2 positions...

Didn't watch the final, what makes you say that?
Lost possession quite a few times in dangerous positions. Luckily for him, none of those were converted. Guess that's a bit unlike him cos he's had a good tournament otherwise.

Was nothing short of a joke in the final. Fortunate not to have been punished.
That's a bit harsh, I think. He was far from a joke. He was very solid defensively, rarely putting a foot wrong. He was solid in the air and fought hard throughout the match. It might not have been his best match of the tournament, but it was a solid 7/10 display.

I fear that he might end up at City while we push for Ramos.

The only thing Ramos has on him is ability on the ball. Other than that based on his current form for 1 and half years Otamendi is probably better defensively.
