If they want a few players they can have Park, Bebe, Macheda, Owen and Berba plus £10m-deal?

Not sure how you got there

Hazard wont be going to Spurs and tbh after watching him this season I no longer think Modric is the answer to all our problems either.

Modric was fantastic again until at least December. Lennon/VDV got a few injury problems and Harry started playing him and Bale everywhere they shouldn't be. If there's even 50% chance we could sign him, Ferguson will be dipping his wick.

Giggs and Park aren't getting any younger, and United should have four wingers in the squad to negotiate all competitions and weather injuries.

That's tons of money to spend in order to complete a bunch of four wingers. When everyone is fit, two of them will regularly not be starting.

..especially when there's a CM shaped hole in our first team.

(I exagerrate of course, but you know what I mean)

The Gaitan rumours have been persistent for awhile now so must be some substance to it...it kinda reminds me of the Valencia rumour before he joined us.

My preference would be Hazard but i can see him moving to Spurs now and Modric joining us!

The Valencia rumours were a bit more substantiated as Bruce practically told the press that he wanted Valencia to go to us rather than Real

Why we're spending potentially 30 million on a winger baffles me. We haven't signed a first team central midfielder for 4 years. And one of those two is gone.

We'll sign a central midfielder, but we also need another attacking/wing option. Young is for me, a straight replacement for Park. A squad player who will do the job in an array of different positions including in behind the striker 'much like Park'.

Gaitan is effectively just a straight replacement for Berbatov.

If somebody said our front four could be any player

Rooney
Nani
Valencia
Hernandez
Welbeck
Young
or Gaitan, you'd fecking *** away.

According to Boca fans they compared him to Riquelme in his style of play. .So is he just a out and out winger.

Didnt impress me when I watched him. Haven't seen much of him mind. Still hope it's bullshit, would rather see Hazard here.

How many have watched him play regularly?
I've posted two articles saying that he can play centrally.

We have Champions League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, and the League to compete in.

United cannot rely on two starters over the course of a season. Three top wingers like Giggs, Beckham, Blomqvist in '99 is a minimum requirement. You'd like to be able to bring on an attacking player as a sub at the end of matches. If you want to win trophies, then I think you need two players for each position as a rule of thumb. Loss of form, injuries, bringing in younger players behind the experienced ones, etc. etc.

Ashley Young has already shown he can provide backup for Rooney should Rooney pick up a knock, and maybe Gaitan could play there as well. Park, Nani and Giggs have been asked to play up top on occasion. So that's really three positions we're talking about if Berbatov leaves.

Look, whether I'm right or not, I don't understand why when we are buying a winger it isn't simply assumed that he will play as a winger. There is no good reason to think Gaitan is a CM, so to call it a bad buy because he isn't a CM is just plain stupid.

Unless that is you think the club doesn't have enough money to buy a CM as well in the summer which is equally daft considering how much has been spent the past few summers.

I think it is a good sign. Get this buy out of the way, so Gill can focus on getting the right CM which may take a lot of arm-twisting and searching all summer as Chelsea and City are also after the Modric's and Hazard's of this world.

I have a feeling the club are having trouble identifying the right central midfielder. Go too young, and he won't be ready to step into the job. Go too experienced, and he will cost an arm and a leg and may end up like Veron. Go for someone like Modric, and you're in a bidding war with Russian and Arab oil money. Plus Modric has already stated his preference for Chelsea. My hunch is it'll take most of the summer to find out who the best value for money is out of the possible central midfielders out there, so why start getting frustrated before the summer has even started?

The articles that I've seen begin with the assumption that United will need him to play centrally and then spend their time discussing that without offering any evidence of his aptitude for the job.

So how long to a retracting statement is made? Any way time for some youtube clips I think.

Don't know much about him. Is he a wide playmaker like Silva or a traditional winger?

We do need a Silva type playmaker in wide areas. I think we are too predictable sometimes with crosses into the box.

In other words he's both depending on what he's asked to do, like Mata or current Giggs. When he plays on the right he will certainly look to come in field a bit like Messi when he plays that role. On the left he can hug the touchline at times. Has a great dribble, speed and some of his crossing looks really good. From the middle of the pitch he shows good vision and passing. And his volleying looks first class.

I'm all for this signing, with Giggs nearing retirement and potentially Park and Berbatov leaving.

I can't see the rumours being true, to be honest. Can't think of any time we agreed to a cash plus players deal.

Keith Gallespie was traded for somebody for money + player i think, who was that for ?

Berbatov. We sent them Campbell on loan. I wouldn't worry about the exact details of the deal, but the general feeling is that we're signing him. From the first story i read about this it had the feeling of one that would happen, don't know why. Its still looking very likely.

and Ronaldo and Hamsik!!!!

I was going to say that my muppet juices were barely making it from my heart to my lungs but Ronaldo you say

Incidentally, how do you feel about the phone hacking scandal now that transfer speculation has reduced by about 80%?

I don't thinkthey got their stories from phone hacking, more a set of tombolas, one that has the clubs, an other that has the players and a back up which has nothing but balls with the name man city on them.

I would be astounded if football players, managers and agents didn't have their phones hacked.

I'm still hoping this is a blind and we are going for Hazard, but in all of this there is still very little encouragement for the hope of getting an actual top class CM.

If Gaitan is our "big" summer signing then I'm going to go postal.
