I don't think devilish is being particularly cryptic. He means that United is a good place for players to achieve their full potential, but the potential has to be there in the first place.

Amen!

Amen? You were making the most retarded point in order to have another sly dig at United for not being able to turn Park into Ronaldo.

Your logic was that we don't turn decent players into world class ones unless they already have the ability to become world class. Well blow me down, that's ground breaking stuff right there. You just enjoy complaining about United for some reason.

Forgive me but I really don't have time to discuss with a top red who twist your words to suit his agenda. My point was in response to the post of others who believed that Gaitan can become world class just by playing with United. I disagree with that. United are great in fulfilling potential but hasnt yet started performing miracles (no club has ever done that). Now if that's criticism against United....well I really don't know

Personally I wouldn't complain if we signed Gaitan. He's a quality left footed player and would add some nice variation to our squad. I think the potentail for him to improve considerably is definitely there, but it isn't an exact science. I don't know how anyone can definitively say if he is or isn't good enough. If the price is right he'd be a welcome signing.

Like most people though I don't think he's shown enough to warrant the price tag his club have put on him.

But you're talking in riddles. You went on to say that a player can only become world class if he has the potential to. Are you saying that Gaitan doesn't have this potential? If not then I don't see why you need to point out that United can't perform miracles and turn average players into world class ones. But you also said it was a point that had nothing to do with Gaitan. I just didn't get what the point of it all was except to piss on the parade of anyone that thinks this club can vastly improve a player.

I made it pretty obvious that I was talking in general. No club (whether its United or Barcelona) can turn a player (any player) into a world class player unless he's got the talent to do so. If that wasn't the case then the likes of Phil Neville or Gattuso (bags of positive attitude and hardwork) would have been at the same level of Maldini and Keane.

I haven't watched Gaitan enough to give a fair judgement on him. From what I've read in here he seems to be a tricky winger whose rough in the edges. Whether we need another winger who seem not to be an upgrade to what we've got (we've got Valencia, Nani, Young and Park) is open to discussion.

Reporter for a Portuguese newspaper as told BBC Five radio that he will definitively leave this summer and United will be is destination.

How's he done tonight? I've only just turned on and no sooner I did Benfica went down to 10 men

We would have a lovely 433 with a player like Gaitan. You need someone who is very strong dribbling to play as an outside striker, or whatever they're called.

Carrick
Cleverley Anderson
Nani..................Gaitan
Rooney

I don't see anything remotely great about him. Hope we don't waste money on him, when we have very capable wingers in our team and that, they are all better than him anyway.

"Waste money" might be a bit harsh, but otherwise I agree with you completely, not seeing much to get excited about though I accept the circumstances are very difficult.

he hasnt stood out or impressed me anytime ive seen him. dont think he looks any better than our current crop of wingers nani, young and valencia.....

more important areas to spend some £££ on

The only thing he has that any of our wingers don't (not counting Giggs) is his left-footedness.

Didn't have a great game. Hope there's more if he is a United signing... Hopefully it's someone like Hazard instead.

Seen much if Hazard? He has games just as bad as Gaitans tonight. You'd think he was like Ronaldo the way some go on about him on here.

Yes otherwise I wouldn't have made the comment would I. Maybe because he has the ability to come up with a moment of brilliance. I didn't really see Gaitan go at anyone today.

know we all ahve bad games, but feck lets spend our money elsewhere please gotze all the way for me!

Look back through this thread and there many examples of Gaitan producing those moments too. I've seen Hazard be anonymous for Lille before but these performances don't get a mention on here.

One bad performance doesn't make him a bad player, however when you look at how our wingers have done this season - Valencia in particular but also flashes of brilliance from Young and Nani - spending another £20m+ on a winger doesn't make much sense right now. We could obviously sell one of them to finance the deal but it would be even more stupid.

We'll need a winger because I expect Park to leave as he doesn't offer enough to merit a place in a 25-man squad but I'd rather see us pick up Hoilett on a free or some other cheap winger that won't mind being back-up than an expensive Argentinian who will want regular first team football.

I'm sure he has. That's expected, I'm sure people on here said he was shit when Fergie went to watch him. What you got to look at is the type of players they are. When you've got Valencia, Nani and Young if we are going to bring in another winger you want someone who can offer a little something different. I think what we need is a creative spark someone who can open up defenses with a pass or a piece of trickery.. Gaitan didn't show it. Yes it was only one game.. but when i've seen him play he seems like a touch line winger with great speed, however not very clever (in terms of creativity).

Is he a Mendes client?
