Nicolas Gaitan

So in other words, we're signing him whether we actually want him or not.
*blubs*

No. Jose Irribaran is his agent but if we are interested in signing Gaitan and do sign him then Mendes will play a big part in that. I've read that Gaitan is also part-owned by Benfica which may complicate things a bit.

Part ownded by some sort of Benfica trust fund which was set up to raise money. Mendes isn't his official agent but, as you say, is very involved apparently. He brokered the deal to bring Gaitan to Benfica from Argentina.

I haven't seen that much of him but he's not impressed. One moment in the Chelsea game kind of summed him up for me, a geat long ball played across the field which he should have controlled and made something of - instead he tries the Hollywood volley and fecks it up and doesn't look particularly bothered.

I'm sure he has. That's expected, I'm sure people on here said he was shit when Fergie went to watch him. What you got to look at is the type of players they are. When you've got Valencia, Nani and Young if we are going to bring in another winger you want someone who can offer a little something different. I think what we need is a creative spark someone who can open up defenses with a pass or a piece of trickery.. Gaitan didn't show it. Yes it was only one game.. but when i've seen him play he seems like a touch line winger with great speed, however not very clever (in terms of creativity).

Heres his assist from the weekend at 3:06. He did two nutmegs in that one piece of play. Does that not count as trickery? His favoured position is supposed to be in behind a striker, but Aimar plays there and that is why Gaitan is out wide. He does tend to drift into the middle but in these Chelsea games it looks as though he was told to stay out wide for whatever reason. He's definitely not a touch line winger.

Here's the vid :D

Some papers say we're really interested, others say we're not. No way of knowing what is right, and maybe both are - we could be interested and decide to do or not do a deal. Is there smoke without fire? Yeah. A lot thought we were certain to get Henderson a year ago, while maybe didn't understand why. Well, we didn't sign him, and everyone understands why!

Most folk are judging him on the chelsea games. If you judged our squad on the group stages then you would wonder why we were even in the champions league

I don't think you can get a real look at his quality from two games but he did seem to be playing as a winger rather than a wide-playmaker like some of us thought he might be. Is that the case normally?

£38m is indeed a joke, i would pay no more than £15m.

In fact would rather have Park ahead of him.

I still don't get it. He's not young, he's not cheap, he's not special (from what I've seen of him). His goals/assists stats don't suggest he's doing something amazing in Portugal. Who in our first XI (or 14 or however you like to look at it) would he be expected to replace? If he's just supposed to be a potential squad member, how flexible a player is he, where does he fit?

I will, of course, forget all my misgivings as/when we buy him and will certainly hail him as the undiscovered gem he surely is.

As people have mentioned, no way in hell £38 million would be a good price, but if we could get 15-20m at most, it would be worth it IMO.

He has great technique, a good dribbler and has decent vision.

Certainly has the tools to be a good playmaker, but personally i hope we dont sign him.

He dives WAY too much, and seems like a player who is happy to get another player in trouble, which does not suit our club.

£38 million is the release clause of Gaitan, that doesn't mean he's gonna be sold for £38 million. If we sign him, I think it'll be for £17-18 million. It looks like we've scouted him extensively over the past year, so you just need to trust the club and Fergie for this.

Seen much if Hazard? He has games just as bad as Gaitans tonight. You'd think he was like Ronaldo the way some go on about him on here.

Obviously he has them a lot less than Gaitan seeing as he's been in the running for league player of the year three years in a row while Gaitan has very little going for him in that sense, really.

Wouldn't surprise me, though he wouldn't be my choice.

Why would you prefer Gaitan over Kagawa?

We already have Nani, and Young playing in similar position with Giggs and Welbeck able to cover. Our most obvious shortage is someone who can cover Carrick, and Evra.

Why would you prefer Gaitan over Kagawa?

This is only Gaitans second season in Europe if I remember rightly. I can't really watch a lot of Benfica's league games but I try to read reports and watch highlights since we have been linked with him and he seems to produce a goal or assist quite regularly. Not only that but he had the highest assists after the CL group stages. This is why he can't be judged on the Chelsea games, which I am certain many are doing.

The Hazard comparison was to point out that he's hit and miss at times too. I've seen him have anonymous games, so when I see people say that Gaitan struggled to make an impact and that we should sign Hazard, I felt this needed pointing out.

With regards to Kagawa, I find him inconsistent but on a 90 minute basis. One minute he does something good but the next he fecks something up. I've never been blown away by him, though I've not seen much of him this season. If it were down to me, I wouldn't take Gaitan or Kagawa, but I wouldn't complain if we brought in Gaitan.

Nico Gaitan will be Manchester United from next season. When they found THE GAME, the transfer of Argentinian international to Old Trafford is almost closed and involves the payment of 25 million euros in cash, which the Red Devils still need to add two more players in order to approach the assessment of the business to 45 million euro release clause stipulated in the sweater 20. And if the oral agreement as to the total amount of money is, there is still filing edges on the name of the United players to head in the opposite direction, which not prevent the conclusion of the understanding. Yet this process is even more complex, however, since it involves the need to understanding many athletes and between their respective business.

Initially, the red DSS remitted the interest of Alex Ferguson for the payment of 45 million stipulated in the termination clause, but the leaders of the British emblem proved adamant not to exceed the threshold of 25 million. The solution was, therefore, the inclusion of assets of the club that the players are now starting to run other emblems or even promising young team to play in the second, cases of young Macheda, Petrucci and Baby (see opposite page).

The negotiations are being mediated by Jorge Mendes, well connected in both emblems, and from the English club's chief executive, David Gill, who takes the whole process. In the Light, Luis Filipe Vieira also took on the management of the dossier and was a few weeks ago in London to give me further details of the deal, which had long been apalavrado. Because, you know THE GAME, Jorge Jesus himself already know from the Christmas Gaitán will lose at the end of time. The coach was informed at the time that the British had guaranteed the right of first refusal on the player and Manchester would even be your destination. With the approaching end of the season, negotiations accelerated and Argentina did not blink at the possibility of signing the contract of his life, not less than five seasons.

Manchester United made the player dozens of comments, mostly through his scout Tom Cross - former player who passed on several national clubs like FC Porto, Belenenses or Academic - but Ferguson also had the former Boca Juniors under an eye. At the end of the first game with the embodied (the group stage of Champions, in the Light), the experienced coach made a point of leaving high praise to the technical and accurate intelligence that could have versatile left-handed to his orders from the next campaign.

And if the deal is almost closed, the official announcement of the transfer should never happen before the end of the season, with both clubs only end the respective official duties in the middle of next month.

O Jogo reporting that the deal to take Gaitan is complete. 22m(Pounds) is the price and two out of Bebe, Macheda and Petrucii will also be moved there.

Hopefully they take Bebe and Macheda and leave Patrucci here.

Why we're spending potentially 30 million on a winger baffles me. We haven't signed a first team central midfielder for 4 years. And one of those two is gone.

I personally think it's bullshit. Unless there's a spending spree coming where he's one of many signings I don't see it as a big improvement on the squad.

I suppose he could fit in if we opt to play him or Young through the middle and ditch 4-4-2. If Park leaves and assuming Giggs has a smaller role to play he'd be a useful addition.

Rooney plays through the middle. We don't play 4-4-2

With what we already have, it'l be a tad pointless imo. Should go for a top class CM before we look at strengthening other areas really.

Factual. Rooney in 2009/10 was a central striker, now he plays in the hole. Thing is we're so much on the front foot in most matches he can afford to play high up. Whenever we're playing a top 4 team or tracking back it's painfully obvious we're playing 4-2-3-1

Pedantic.

Not at all. he plays very deep in most big games, its only in games where we totally dominate that he stays really up the pitch. What he does is the very definition of playing "in the hole" for me.

The Gaitan rumours have been persistent for awhile now so must be some substance to it...it kinda reminds me of the Valencia rumour before he joined us.

My preference would be Hazard but i can see him moving to Spurs now and Modric joining us!

Not sure how you got there

Hazard wont be going to Spurs and tbh after watching him this season I no longer think Modric is the answer to all our problems either.

Once we've approached the assessment stipulated in the sweater 20 I'm happy.

Why do we assume he would be used as a CM?

Get him in early in the summer, and then spend the rest of the summer pursuing a central midfield target. If Berbatov is sold, or if Park leaves, then a replacement will be needed on the wings and behind Rooney.

Giggs and Park aren't getting any younger, and United should have four wingers in the squad to negotiate all competitions and weather injuries.
