NHL 2016-2017

I probably haven't watched more than two of their games in full this season so hard to inform you on how exciting/good they actually are, but if they're about to become your local team then yes, I'd say you should support them :) and Matthews is very exciting, I can tell you that much. Only 19 years old so definitely one for the long haul.
Splendid! Thanks mate

McDavid hit's the century in points and clearly the Art Ross winner, possibly Hart winner too. When we drafted him I didn't quite buy into how good he was and how he'd transform us, but I'll eat my words after watching this year. I suspect that we would have been higher up the league last season had he not been out injured for so long.

Hearing Micky Redmond tear up at the end of play last night at the last game in Joe Louis Arena got me right in the feels.

Was absolutely delighted for Riley Sheahan as well.

Nice touch by Carolina to allow Bickell to take a penalty shot last night, I wish him well in retirement and hope they find some help to end that retechid condition.

Yep thought that was a class gesture as well.

Well game one is done and dusted and it went the way I thought it would, exactly the way I thought it would. Had predicted a 3-2 win to the Sharks, even saying it would a late winner or OT. The Oilers took a few minutes to find the feet in the first and then flew at the Sharks on the back of the huge support. Came out flat at the start of the second and never got back into the game. The ref's called everything the Oilers did and yet ignored every hack at McDavid. It was a sharp lesson for the Oilers young guns, but they know what playoff hockey is about now, and they'll come back on Friday/Saturday and redress the balance. Got the Oilers to win the series 4-1, so they better had come back in game 2.

First wins for the Canadian teams tonight, the Oilers got going and shut down the Sharks, though it took our special teams to win it for us. Echo's of 06 with the shorty's but we'll take the win and move on.

You're so lucky to have such an exciting young player on your team, man he's good! I think splitting the games in San Jose would be enough to finish the Sharks off in 6.

Big game for us tonight, really can't afford to go 0-2 down with the next two games in Nashville. Let's hope we can score some fecking goals this time.

Connor McDavid is fecking incredible. Heir to Crosby? Even better?

I've got us to win the series 4-1, had us to lose game 1 as well. I really think we learned from that first game, though we still took a lot of penalties. We didn't cough the puck up in our zone which was a problem in the first game and also looking back we took all the emotion and energy from the crowd in that first game and blew ourselves out after the first period. This second game we were more controlled and never went beyond what we needed to do. Maintained our energy and once we took the Sharks game plan out of the game we took charge. That's part 1 of the 2 part test, we need to win in San Jose to pass the second part and we can then move on.

The San Jose press are claiming we targeted Couture, but we just played heavy as much we could and nothing beyond the rules and certainly not as much as McDavid takes during the season.

McDavid is possibly better than Crosby, and that's not being rude to Sid. I knew he was good when we drafted him, but I didn't think he'd be this good. I don't think I've been excited so much about an Oiler player since the good old days of the 80's. He wouldn't look out of place on that team either. Crosby is possibly a more natural goal scorer, but McDavid to me is a more all round player and will continue to score a plenty for seasons to come.

Didn't think Nashville would be pushing the Hawks as they are. Had the Hawks to face the winners of Ducks vs Oilers for the Western Conference final, however the Preds are doing the business. The question is can they continue this through the playoffs?

Would be hilarious if the preds win Lord Stanley. The meltdown in Quebec would be epic

We're just not good enough at the moment, simple as that. I still think we'll do them though, but will be a lot harder than expected. Had much rather faced Calgary than Nashville.

Huge win for the Oilers, another shut out and Kassian kills the Sharks again. The Oilers kept the Sharks on the outside all game with only one or two real clean chances, whilst not creating many themselves, they created more clearer chances. Lines swapped midway through, the top line moved TMac claiming it was to match the SJ size with Thornton back, but Drai and Maroon have been off form so far in the playoffs and so it was wise to shuffle to try and get them going again.

We've now proven to be able to win home and away in the playoffs, I think that means all those suggesting the lack of playoff experience would hurt us were wrong. On to Tuesday, and let's repeat last nights showing.

Preds-hawks looks like it's over. Back breaking loss this for chicago

Ducks-flames IS over(no way calgary comes back, not with the way they lost games 2 and 3)

Caps gonna be caps (but this is going to game 7)

Did not expect the senators to win in boston

If the Habs take both games at MSG, that one would be over too. I’m pretty annoyed that they dropped game 1 on home ice. Would have been 3-0 and game over by now. They’ve dominated every single period since the start of game 2. Radulov is showing up big time.

Because of Subban? He's not really talked about much, he's still very well liked so I don't see where the meltdown would come from.

Great goal by Radulov. He needs to stop taking these terrible penalties, however. A big key is Galchenyuk looking much better. He needs to play well to add another dimension to their attack.

Galchenyuk and Radulov’s relationship has been one of the joys of the season.

Trading a local hero and then watching him win the cup? Didn't mean it as an angry meltdown, more of a sad/self-deprecating kind

Good stuff. You live in those parts? I went to a few games at the Northlands way back during the dynasty.

I live roughly 3 miles away from Old Trafford..... My cousin got me into the Oilers, took me to a few games back in the dynasty era, which was good as back home United weren't great, but as soon as the Oilers went bad United became great. Off to Canada in June for a couple of weeks, flying into Edmonton, if only so I can go see the new building and scout the hotels out for when I look to go back later in the year to take in my first games at the new barn.

Got a few friends who are season ticket holders for the Oilers, they owe me tickets for when I let them use my season tickets at United a few years back. So all I need to do is book the hotel and flights around a decent home stand next year.

Anyway, time to get some sleep, need to be up at 3am to watch game 4 of this series we are playing. The only hassle of being a fan of team out west is face off times.

Nice. Be sure to dress warm if you go between December and February. Edmonton gets very very cold.

Game 4 has turned ugly for us Oilers, the refs have called everything tonight again, and the Sharks PP has clicked. The Oilers haven't played anywhere near as good as they have previously and haven't helped themselves, but a big third period to come, the Oilers have to do something or this could turn the whole series.

Ducks sweep the Flames, which equates to some good rest, especially for their banged up Dmen, before playing EDM/SJ.

I would say the Oilers can't perform as badly as they did on Tuesday, but knowing the Oilers from the past 10 years (I know they are a different beast this year), they could turn out an even worse showing. Still we aren't missing Leon, after a fine for his jab with the stick. Quite remarkable isn't it that he got the maximum fine for what he did, yet Crosby got away with it.

The McDavid line for most of the season hasn't performed so far, perhaps tonight McD, Leon and Maroon can figure out how to hurt the Sharks.

In brighter news it's always good to see the Flames swept, I'm sure they'll still claim to be the best team in Alberta, but for how long as they are already talking of moving if they don't get public money to help fund a new arena. Send them back to Atlanta, they are in need of a team again.

I love evenly matched series. I hope yours goes to game 7. Ours probably will, unless we lose on home ice tonight, in which case, they'll probably finish us off in game 6.

Some of the ref's calls against the Oilers have been shocking in this series, the Sharks have near enough had to kill us to get a penalty against them. Still another OT in another close encounter and a great comeback, not only in the game by the Oilers, but also after that debacle on Tuesday. Screaming and shouting like it was Ole's winner in 99 for the goal that tied the game.

Another highlight tonight is the camera panning to Gretzky in the boxes, he's going through the mill chomping his nails, living every play. The guy is a hockey legend and he may have grown up out east, but he's certainly an Oiler through and through.
