Exciting young team. Their rookies have a combined points total almost 3 times as much as the next closest team. Kinda like Man Utd in that they've bad some shocking managers in recent times, but now they have mike Babcock who is one of the best there is. Plus I got gifted two of the exact same maple leaf tshirt at Christmas so I need someone to buy one of them from me
I follow the Leafs due to me considering Toronto my 2nd home. I follow Raptors and Blue Jays closely but haven't bothered so much with the Leafs. I'm going to start following them a bit closer this year though - I literally decided to start during the outdoors match vs Chicago (not a bad time to start)
Can anyone give me some brief info? Best players? New players? Shit players? What's the future looking like?
Right if I'm getting into this properly can somebody answer some of my questions?
Who are the top teams?
Who are the top 10 attackers? Top 10 defensive players? Good keepers?
Whats all this team lines nonsense?
Basic rules? Fouls, etc.
How often do they change lines? The top teams change every year but right now Columbus and Pittsburgh are good value for money.
The best keeper, and probably the best player in the whole league actually, is Carey price of Montreal. No goalie comes close to him.
Attacker wise you have Sidney Crosby, Jonathan toews, Alex ovechkin, Patrick Kane, Tyler seguin, Steve stamkos.... All those players are superstars, then you have three unbelievable young players Conor mcdavid, Auston Matthews and Patrick laine.
The lines stuff is just who the best players are. Line 1 is your best set up, line 4 is usually guys who do nothing but kill penalties and occasionally fight. All the best players are on line 1.
Don't worry about defensive players, especially PK subban.
Jaromir Jagr is the biggest legend currently playing. He's an older guy, and when a 19 year old threatened to go to the newspapers about some stuff he had said/done with her, he told her to go ahead as it would make him look like a stud.
Probably once every minute on average or even a bit faster than that, it's physically exhausting so they're constantly changing. Also depends on the game situation of course, if you're attacking for more than a minute it's hard to make changes, they usually happens when the defense has the puck close to their own goal. I think defensive shifts are sometimes a bit longer. How often do they change lines?
So your best RW, C, LW are all on line 1?
Do Defense change as often?
Where can I find the list of lines? Like a depth chart sort of thing?
Great thanks.Probably once every minute on average or even a bit faster than that, it's physically exhausting so they're constantly changing. Your best players are not necessarily all on the first line, it's about how they compliment each other. For example when the Kings won the Stanley Cup a few years ago, their best offensive line was the 70's line (Pearson, Toffoli and Carter as their numbers are 70, 73 and 77) while Kopitar was arguably their best player and Brown was their captain. I wouldn't focus on lines too much, neither on the star offensive players - if you watch enough games and highlights, you'll figure out soon enough who the best players in the league are.

What is icing? And the offside rule similar to football at all?
In terms of lines again - will you ever get a mix and match line or will all 3 players swap the same time?
Re: lines, I'm not sure as I don't really pay attention to the changes, I suppose it can happen but most of the time lines will be as they should. It's three periods of 20mins, in case of the tie there'll be a 3-on-3 OT of 5mins. If the score is still tied after that, there's a penalty shoot-out. Points distribution is 2 for a W, 1 for an OT loss and 0 for a regular loss. Teams play with a goaltender, two defenders an three attackers. If there's a penalty (for example a high stick or tripping another player), the penalized player goes into the penalty box and the opposing team has a man advantage for 2mins (power play).
What sometimes happens is an icing call, which means that a player shoots the puck from before the halfway line behind the other teams' goalline and the puck remains untouched. Icing is allowed when you're on a penalty kill (4-on-5 situation when one of your players is in the penalty box).
A player is offside when he enters the offensive zone before the puck does. The two blue lines are there to mark the offensive zones.
I think those are the most-made calls when you're watching an NHL game but not sure.
Great help. Thanks a lot. From previous page:

Will Caesars be ready for next season? I'm a bit sad that the Pistons move as well, The Palace of Auburn Hills is the best name ever for a sports arena.Of course I'm a Red Wings fan. Haven't been to a game yet but plan to go to the Joe one more time.

That Capitals vs Penguins game though
Another crazy game, Stars vs Rangers.
2006 when they went to the Stanley Cup finalsAs far as the NHL goes, I'm trying to remember the last time the Oilers got to January and possibly even February and were still playing meaningful hockey. A lot will no doubt be put down to McDavid, but I think Mclellan has to take some serious credit for turning round the titanic. He's got the players playing well enough to break all kinds of negative streaks, to keep winning and to be positive. Since the cup run, the only other coach to get this close to this was Krueger.
Big kudos to Patrick Maroon as well, he's found something this year, and doing the job that Lucic was brought in to do and at a fraction of the cost. Plus his pure emotion and joy at playing hockey is something to behold, loving his attitude this year. 18 goals is his best ever in the NHL, and also leading the Oilers, McDavid can provide goals for everyone for sure, if Maroon can get 20 in a season.

Going to be an interesting trade deadline for the Red Wings for once. So many trade chips can go on the table.
Vanek will be cheap n tasty for a playoff team, he's had some form this year and could maybe get us a low 1st or a 2nd and 3rd. Smith might be a good depth D rental. Feel some wholesale changes coming for us this off season. The streak, impressive as it is needed to die. If we can shift Green, Howard, Vanek and Smith and leave some cap unprotected come the expansion draft I will be happy.
We need to move on from Ken Holland.
Same here, was so stoked for Selänne when he finally won the ring. Although Ducks are a disney team I still got a soft spot for them (RIP Ruslan).Haha, pretty much true tbh. Have never had a favourite team, have been a supporter of Selänne’s team (Jokerit) since the mid-80s, so rooted for Jets when Teemu made the jump. Was extremely happy that he won the cup in Anaheim, one of the most emotional I’ve been as a hockey follower. But yeah, I try to watch as many games as possible and notice myself being more interested when teams with Finnish players are on. Laine, for neutrals too, is an exciting player to watch. Same with some other young players; Aho to name one.
There is always that as well. Weirdly I expect he could actually still do a good job, we've been fighting a losing battle with trying to keep the streak going but I still think him and his team have it within them to spot good talent.
I'd sooner get shot of a lot of the playing staff and try to give some more Ice time to Sproul, Oullette, Mantha, Athanasiou, Jurco, Svechnikov and Hicketts next year.
Johanthan Toews is widely considered the most overrated player in the NHL.
