NFL Season Begins Tonight...

Carolina are a lock for the NFC now.

Re tonights game. Will Flanders (i cant remember if Manning is Rod or Todd...depends who the eldest is?) bottle it as usual against the Pats? I think so and have backed New England receiving 3 points.

Dunno about Carolina, as I think it's still wide open. Dallas (if they can protect those late leads) could be the best in the NFC. Seattle will be strong if Jackson and Engram return to full health and DD Lewis' injury isn't serious. The Giants are solid and will be a threat too, but label me a 'homer,' but I think Dallas would take them in a playoff. The North is shit...they're there to make up the numbers and the division winner will be thoroughly dispatched in the wild card game (though Chicago's defense could make it interesting). Carolina is solid on both sides and on special teams. But the loss of Jenkins could be huge come January, especially against the likes of Dallas and Seattle, which both can pound the ball inside and outside. Tampa was my pick about three weeks ago...until Griese was lost for the year.

The AFC is the strongest again. Will come down to Indy protecting homefield against the likes of San Diego, Denver, New England, and Pittsburgh. The Bengals will make the playoffs, but are probably a year away from serious contention. The AFC champion will be the favorite in the Super Bowl. This is Indy's year to win...if they fail, they may never have a better chance.

indy has homefield locked up ... unless they totally meltdown or payton blows out his knee they wont lose more than 2 games with their soft schedule and the other afc contenders all have 2 losses at least. i dont think the colts are as good as they´re made out to be, but if they have homefield in the playoffs it´s gonna be very hard to beat them in their crappy dome. and the super bowl is in a dome, as well.

indy has 4 games left against decent teams ... @ cincinnati, pittsburgh, san diego and @ seattle ...

best in the nfc? seattle and the giants ...

That's highly debatable considering Dallas beat NY (in a game both teams tried to give away with turnovers) and had a late meltdown against Seattle after dominating the 'hawks for 58 minutes.

In fact, both weeks, Dallas D shut down the NFL's top offense (NYG, then Seattle).

i just dont think the cowboys are as good as you think right now ... ask me again after thanksgiving. the giants, so far, are the nfc team that has impressed me the most. the playoff picture in the nfc is pretty clear and i dont see the eagles making it.

I have my doubts about Dallas, but there isn't a clearcut top team in the NFC. It's a toss up with 4-6 teams in the mix. NY Giants are not a step above Dallas or Seattle or Carolina or Tampa for that matter. It's a clusterf*ck.

if chris simms doesnt grow up quickly and caddy williams doesnt prove his first 3 games were a fluke then tampa wont even make the playoffs.

the bears and ´hawks should win their divisions, the south is between carolina and the atlanta cornhuskers and the east is pretty open. one of the 3 in the east is gonna be the odd team out, but the others should all make the playoffs.

Second half schedule (some teams play division opponents twice; in such case, the opponents record is only counted once)

Seattle 6-2: STL, @ SF, NYG, @ PHI, SF, @ TEN, IND, @ GB
Likely: 11-13 wins -- Opp Rec: 26-31 (.456) -- Prediction: 13 wins

Carolina 6-2: NYJ, @ CHI, @ BUF, ATL, TB, @ NO, DAL, @ ATL
Likely: 11-13 wins -- Opp Rec: 28-29 (.491) -- Prediction: 12 wins

Dallas 5-3: @ PHI, DET, DEN, @ NYG, KC, @ WAS, @ CAR, STL
Likely: 8-11 wins -- Opp Rec: 39-25 (.609)-- Prediction: 10 wins

NY Giants 6-2: MIN, PHI, @ SEA, DAL, @ PHI, KC, @ WAS, @ OAK
Likely: 9-12 wins -- Opp Rec: 31-25 (.554) -- Prediction: 11 wins

Chicago 5-3: SF, CAR, @ TB, GB, @ PIT, ATL, @ GB, @ MIN
Likely: 7-9 wins -- Opp Rec: 29-27 (.518) -- Prediction: 8 wins

Atlanta 6-2: GB, TB, @ DET, @ CAR, NO, @ CHI, @ TB, CAR
Likely: 11-13 wins -- Opp Rec: 22-27 (.449) -- Prediction: 11 wins

Washington 5-3: @ TB, OAK, SD, @ STL, @ ARI, DAL, NYG, @ PHI
Likely: 8-10 wins -- Opp Rec: 34-31 (.523) -- Prediction: 9 wins

Tampa Bay 5-3: WAS, @ ATL, CHI, @ NO, @ CAR, @ NE, ATL, NO
Likely: 7-9 wins -- Opp Rec: 34-23 (.597) -- Prediction: 8 wins

St Louis 4-4: @ SEA, ARI, @ HOU, WAS, @ MIN, PHI, SF, @ DAL
Likely: 7-9 wins -- Opp Rec: 28-36 (.438) -- Prediction: 9 wins

Philadelphia 4-4: DAL, @ NYG, GB, SEA, NYG, @ STL, @ ARI, WAS
Likely: 7-9 wins -- Opp Rec: 29-27 (.518) -- Prediction: 7 wins

That would be Seattle, Carolina, NY Giants, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas in the playoffs.

the players are dropping like flies ... priest holmes goes on IR and might retire

"Mr. Rosenhaus, what have you done for him in 5 months other than make him get kicked off the team?" - "Next Question"

Noooo Priest is out. The cheifs offense is going to be almost solely carried by Gonzo now. We're fecked.

two of the worst teams in the league...and in detroit. ;)

but Detroit has Mike Williams and Shaun Cody...so thumbs up in my book.
You're probably right Flash. Hopefully Detroit will have Garcia back at QB. That'll make them a bit more effective. I'm actually a Bears fan though so I wouldn't be heartbroken if the Lions lost.

just goes to show you how bad things are for them when you have to hope that detroit has Garcia back. ;)

Anyone's better than Harrington I guess.

well, it's not hard to better than him. ;)
I'm just happy that I get to be close to the action in luxury seats with beer being served. Any other time I've been to a football game I've been up in the nosebleed section. On top of that I get in for free. :D

good point.

it'll probably be a 10-7 game...teams trade opening 98 yard kickoff return for td's and then go the rest of the way with no scoring untill won with a FG in the last seconds of OT ;)

I'll be sloshed by the time the 2nd quarter rolls around. So it doesn't matter.

Just thought of something, I'll prob have a good view of the cheerleaders.

I don't think the Lions have cheerleaders do they? :nervous:

last I checked in 2003 they didn't
Actually now that you say that I think you're right. Shite! Its the Pistons who have the cheerleaders! The cheapshit Lions have High School cheerleaders come in and cheer for them.

Lions v Cardinals

Actually turned out to be quite an exciting game. Harrington had a great game as did Roy Williams. Kurt Warner did a decent job for the Cards too. We didn't actually have box seats as my neighbour had said we would (although we were in the clubhouse section which was very nice). I'll have to remember in the future that he does embelish a little. :smirk:

Where are the resident Philly fans?

I sat there cursing the tv until Glenn scored. 20-14 Philly...the Boys have a chance now. Just stop Philly on downs, get the ball back, and go for the winning score. They won't stop this offense now. Give up no first down. Ok...only 3 yards...2nd and 7...crap, McNabb passing...

But then up stepped Roy Williams...taking an interception 46 yards for the go-ahead score. Philly moved the ball about 25 yards afterwards and appeared to have completed a long pass deep inside Dallas territory to what would have set up a game winning FG attempt...but Reggie Brown dropped the pass. Dallas kept Philly from gaining good yardage, and Andy Reid decided to try an improbable 60 yard FG attempt which was woefully short.

This is some vindication for the Washington loss earlier in the season. But Dallas will take them in the return match. Dallas now in first place tie with NY Giants, but hold the tie-breaker (beat NY, have one more contest with NY, which may decide the division winner, and possibly homefield depending on Seattle and Carolina).

Ok. Considering I didn't play, and you aren't playing me later this month, why should I be concerned if I played bad for 56 minutes?

As for Dallas vs Denver, I'll take my odds that Dallas wins. Dallas often comes off the bye week and plays flat. They still won. So Denver should take note...if they have a lead, better protect it.

id be concerned you gave up 181 rushing to the eagles

mcnabb should have his surgery now ... their season is ovah

The Redskins/Bucs game last weekend was fantastic. I don't think I've watched a better game this season. For all the knocks against Washington's offense, I thought Brunell had fantastic rythm passing for short yardage and Portis just kept ramming it in to keep the chains moving against one of the best rush defenses in the league. I think Washington might just pip the Giants and Cowboys in the NFC East.

That was a great game. Gruden had a lot of balls going for 2 points at the end. Simms made some pretty good throws too.

Though I'm glad Washington lost (was screwed by the refs), I don't know how the refs ever felt Alstott scored the 2 point conversion. And how replay couldn't produce evidence to overturn the call. Alstott was on his back and not once did I ever see his hands/arms extend to a position to break the plane.

Hopefully, Oakland wins at Washington and the Eagles knock off the Giants, so Dallas can beat Detroit and take a 1 game lead in the division over NYG. Washington losing only betters Dallas advantage over other division foes. I just hope Dallas isn't looking past Detroit towards Denver.

I loved the decision to try for 2, but it was a stupid decision with an even worse play call. Fortunately, the refs botched the call and Tampa won.

Simms has a great delivery on his deep passes. Sean Salisbury said Simms has one of the best deep deliveries in the league. He's so fluid and has great timing on those deep routes. I hope he continues to progress as I've always felt he'd turn out to be a pretty good NFL QB.

gruden´s call was the same call dick vermeil made v the raiders the week before. kick to tie or go for the win. when it works, the coach looks like a genius, but when it doesnt work everyone calls him an idiot.

kenny, any comment on the jets game this weekend?

I thought the call by gruden was gutsy. Could it be that he didnt have enough confidence in his defense to stop washington if they won the toss in overtime .. hard to say. The overtime rule where the first team to score wins seems weird to me.

I dont think the Jets have any chance against a good Broncos defense. Bollinger hasn't shown anything so far and Martin has been playing hurt for most of the season. Cedric Houston might actually split carries with Martin in this one. Denver, I think will also run the ball a lot between Anderson and Bell and should win easy.

Da Bears!

No one (including myself) thought they'd be 7-3 or that they'd beat Carolina today. Looking good to win the division (before you say it, yes I know its a weak division).

Dallas sitting in first, 7-3 (tied with NY Giants, but have the tie-breaker advantage). With Washington pulling an annual second half meltdown, the Boys-Giants game will probably produce the division winner. That game will be played in New Jersey on Dec 4. Dallas has Denver (home game) on Turkey Day, while the Giants travel to Seattle next Sunday.

Our first shutout in 8 years, nice. Bring on Dallas.
