NFL Season Begins Tonight...

fecking kicking game once again the deciding factor. That's 3 games Dallas has lost when a kicker missed a chip shot FG (insde 40 yards). Any NFL kicker should be able to make 40 yard FGs with 80% or better consistency. Cortez was the culprit twice, eventually costing him the job. The first was a 40 yarder against Washington that he hooked wide left, which a top kicker makes. That would have given Dallas 16 points (actually 3, it was in the 1st quarter, if memory serves correct) and forces Washington to try for 2 on both TDs, and the odds say they'd have only converted 1, if that. The second debacle was a 29 yarder at Seattle that he once again hooked left. Convert that kick, it's 13 points, which forces Seattle to try the onside kick after the late TD made it 13-10. Odds are Seattle does not cover the onsider, and Drew is not throwing a pass with a lead.

Then today...Cundiff misses a 34 yarder wide left. That ended up being the difference in a win and an OT game. Up 24-21, Denver would have had to go for a first on 4th and long inside their own 30. Who knows if Denver drives downfield to tie the game and force OT, but I'd take my chances to Dallas D stops Denver and wins the game.

That's why I hope Jerry and Bill realize that a great kicking game is vital. Just like Denver realize and so they pay Elam a very high salary. Also, an often overlooked kicking aspect is kickoffs. Dallas kickers often reach between the 5-12 yard line on kickoffs, already giving a team a better return oppurtunity. Great kickers with strong legs tend to put kickoffs into the end zone, or at least inside the 5, as well as better hang time, allowing coverage to close in.

Jerry - fecking spend some money on a class kicker this off-season. Your team should be 10-1, or 9-2 at worst, if you would just sign a class kicker that can make a fecking chipshot.

Yes I am pissed. Great game, but I hate it when my team should have won but a fecking kicker or horrible play call (don't get me started on that 3rd-2 late in the 4th when they tried the short sideline throw to fecking Terry Glenn of all people) costs my team a win.

well, you lost a game in which you never had the lead and despite running 30 more plays than your opponent and having the ball for more 36 minutes you only gained 20 more yards.

still, if cundiff nails the chipshot, the game is over. witten did well, only tight end that really gave denver trouble this season, and keyshawn made the best out of matching up against a 5-8 corner.

elam is still above average, but he doesnt make the kicks (50 yards plus) he gets his top 3 salary for anymore. and he´s missed a few costly field goals this season. in jacksonville it wasnt a problem, in new york itd have won the game. he doesnt kick off, either.

Look at the stats again. Not counting OT, Dallas had an 83 net yard advantage in total offense. They also dominated on first downs (23-13) which you didn't mention. Dallas was much better on 3rd downs, converting 7 of 16 to Denver's 3 of 10. Both teams got 7 points off 2 turnovers (DAL: 2 ints, DEN: int, fum).

Bottom line: if the kicker makes the easy FG attempt, Dallas most likely wins that game. Denver didn't show me anything that gives me the belief they can win at Indianapolis. Dallas, however, can easily win the NFC as it's wide open. A big step for Dallas is to put yet another win they gave away behind them, and win at New York in 9 days. That will be a tough game, and the winner will most likely take the East division, and possibly go on to secure a home playoff game, possibly a first round bye. But I wouldn't like Dallas' chances against Indianapolis in a Super Bowl. But no one gave New England a chance against the juggernaught Rams in SB XXXVI.

dallas had the better stats, sure, but still didnt take advantage of having THIRTY plays more. oh, and you got 2 scores off turnovers (the fumble and plummer´s interception).

we beat a good team in their house on thanksgiving. im happy.

bottm line: the L isnt on cundiff only as your o should have done better.

The kicker converts with under 8:00 to play, and it's 24-21. It's a different game then. So yes, the kicker's miss gave Denver a huge relief and killed any momentum Dallas had gained, and ended up being a deciding factor. Kick is made, no OT. Unless Denver drives 60 yards and kicks a tying FG, which considering they hadn't done much offensively, I doubt they do tie the game.

Dallas often fails to score despite putting up long drives. That's usually on Parcells for being too conservative. Dallas could have retained possession and drove into Denver territory if they convert on 3rd-1 from the Denver 48. But they called a ridiculous quick throw to the sideline to Glenn, 2 yards from the marker (he drops the pass too). Why Glenn? It was working with Keyshawn. Don't change what's working. Dallas punts, and Denver would have had to go 4th-2 inside their 30. With a 24-21 lead, Parcells has Dallas run the ball on 3rd-1, and if they convert they keep the ball and probably run out the clock. Denver stops, and you still have to go all out to tie.

How pathetic. If it wasn't a division rival, who beat Philly twice this season and ended their playoff aspirations, I doubt Philly management file a complaint. This is just a shot at a team Philly will always be in the shadow of. I don't see Terrell Owen's name mentioned in the quotes by Jerry Jones. He's obviously aware that he can't mention names. Just because the question was in regards to Owens, Jerry's answer can be argued before a judge that without reference to a named player by Jones, it can be construed that Jones is referring to any player in general.

Eagles file tampering complaint against Cowboys
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia Eagles have filed a tampering complaint against the Dallas Cowboys after Dallas owner Jerry Jones suggested on a radio show that his team is often interested in players such as suspended wide receiver Terrell Owens.

"In general, I am a risk-taker. We've gone down that road," Jones said when asked if the Cowboys might be interested in Owens. "I probably have a propensity to try and make things work. ... A top receiver could flourish with Drew Bledsoe. That's always appealing."

NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed Sunday the Eagles filed the complaint over Jones' remark and said "the matter is under review."

Owens was suspended for four games by the Eagles on Nov. 5 for criticizing quarterback Donovan McNabb, fighting with team "ambassador" Hugh Douglas and other actions deemed detrimental to the team. Last Tuesday, the suspension was upheld by an arbitrator.

After the suspension ends, the Eagles are expected to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season. He is expected to be traded or released for next season.

NFL bylaws prohibit "any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL."

The Eagles' complaint was first reported by Fox.

NY papers are building up the Giant-Cowboy game Sunday. You'd think that the Jets weren't even in the playoffs last year. Part of Mike Lupica's article is below:

For town and Tom,
it's a Giant day

For this one Sunday, Giants against the Cowboys, first place on the line, it feels like a Yankee-Red Sox game at Giants Stadium. For the first time in a long time around here, the big game is a football game. This one.

Finally, there is something in another sport that measures up, what feels like the first round of the football playoffs, first Sunday of December, Giants against the Cowboys. It means Giants against Bill Parcells, who knows more about football games like this in Jersey, at this stadium, at this time of year, than anybody living.

What about the Chiefs then eh? Went tit for tat with the Broncos and came out on top, even after losing the Priest (possibly a blessing in diguise) a few weeks back. I reckon we can beat the Cowboys, the Chargers and the Bengals, which would surely put us post season. The Giants will be a toughy. Larry Johnson is a future superstar.

You have to win out, which you won´t. But you can do us a favor and beat the Bengals and the Chargers.

This time it was the Cowboys who benefitted from a bad kick that should have been made, a 41 yarder as time expired, albeit down to a poor snap. It's going to be tough for the Chiefs and especially the Chargers now, the Chargers will lose to the Colts and then have to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead, a formidable task in December. The Chiefs, however, have to beat the Giants, the Chargers and the Bengals, which could be the easiest of the lost as they will already be in the playoffs, not wanting to get any injuries. Which leads me to believe that the Steelers, with only the Vikings being a problem for them in their schedule, will be the second wildcard in the AFC. Shitter.

The Colts blew didn't they? Lots of holes showed up in that performance, i think a lot of teams with get some hope from seeing that. The stinking Chiefs stunk against the Giants, the sorriest display of "tackling" I've ever seen. Thats our playoff hopes down the shitter.

Offensive line is what failed the Colts.

Same for Dallas. They have really missed Flozell Adams at LT. They haven't been the same since he was seriously injured earlier in the season. Torrin Tucker was beaten repeatedly yesterday and allowed 3 sacks (Washington had 7 overall).

They face two must wins to make the playoffs, and hope that Washington drop 1 game along the way. Next Sunday at Carolina and a home finale against St Louis. Both are winnable games, but Carolina has a pretty good defense. What's hurting Dallas is their inability to stop the opposing running game. Fortunately, neither Carolina or St Louis have top running games. But Davis & Foster (Carolina) and Faulk & Jackson (St Louis) can produce.

Washington faces NY Giants (home) and Philadelphia (away). I see a loss against the Giants and probably a win at Philly. However, the Eagles are playing with pride right now and are tough to beat at home. And Washington is playing great on defense of late and with Eli Manning struggling and playing behind a banged up OL, the Skins could overwhelm NYG. I see both Dallas and Washington going 9-7, and Atlanta at 9-7. That means Minnesota, by virtue of wins at Baltimore and home to Chicago (Bears resting key players having wrapped up #2 seed), sends them to the playoffs at 10-6.

But I'm holding out hope that Dallas wins their final two games and sneaks into the playoffs. Probably would face the Giants in the wild card game.

The New York Giants are a better team than the Indigenous Peoples of the District of Columbia on both sides of the ball. The mere fact that the Cowboys stunk up the field doesn't mean the Gints will--so I think you will get your assistance of a DC loss next week.
As far as Parcell's crew playing the Giants on wild card weekend, I didn't know you were allowed to play within the Division in the first round.

The Chargers match-up well against the Colts. Good pass rush and run defence. Pity the Chargers will probably miss out on the playoffs due to the loss against Miami.

Doesn´t matter. #3 v #6 and #4 v #5. We had Minnesota/Green Bay in the Wildcard round last season.

Okay--I'm just an old guy who tends to remember "how it used to be in the good old days." Still, I'm hoping that the Giants will beat both the Skins and the Felons and be the #2 seed.

The Giants are the 2nd best NFC team for me and a Seahawks/Giants rematch would be a good game. Still can´t see either team having much of a chance in the Super Bowl tho.

I don't know if I wrote this already, but I would've loved if the Baltimore Colts went 16-0, but F those "move out at midnight" scumbags.

I like the 72 Dolphins gloating. Like that night the Bears played the Fins in 85, when they were all cheering on the sidelines. The only bad thing is 1972 was a year before I was born, so when the "the last team to go undefeated was such a looooooooonng time ago" shit starts...

I'd like to congratulate the Eagles for winning, thus moving them farther away from the Reggie Bush sweepstakes. I'd also like to congratulate the Redskins for taking the Cowboys farther away from the NFC East lead and a playoff spot, and thank them in advance for losing to Eli and the Giants next week.

San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders - bow down to your 2005 AFC West Champion Denver Broncos :D

Watch out the Bears finally have some offense now that Grossman's back!

feckin cocksuckers. I`m on the Panthers at 8/1 to win the NFC and they were fecked out of a win by a chickenshit call. Peppers blocked the kick. So the kicker got touched...boo feckin hoo.

That bet is probably down, but after their shambolic display against the Chargers, it seems obvious to me that Flanders will contrive to feck it up for the Colts in the playoffs. The guy chokes under pressure and i have layed them at 5/4 for the Superbowl. It`s like buying money.

Well, I have my ideal playoff scenario planned out. Cincy wins in Kansas City and/or Miami wins in New England ... the #4 seed Patriots beats the Jaguars, the Bengals beat either Pittsburgh or Kansas City ... the Pats go to Indy and spoil Peyton´s party for a millionth time while a rocking Mile High crowd in the first playoff game at the new stadium ever proves too much for an inexperienced Bengals team and, voila, the Road to Forty runs thru Denver and the Broncos get a chance to end Brady´s playoff win streak at 11.

New England IMO has the best chance of all teams playing in the Wildcard round to go to Indy and win and I´d prefer to face the Pats at Mile High than the Colts in their warm and cushy dome. Cincy will be in for a surprise in the playoffs as they have nada experience and also rely on getting turnovers and the AFC playoff teams know how to protect the ball.

If you consider 17 offensive points good. With that defense, it probably is enough. But they won't win in Seattle.
Yes considering they were scoring a fraction of that on a regular basis before. Also they scored those 17 points early primarily by passing the ball. Late on when they had a big lead they went with the running game to burn time off the clock.

Some offense with the explosive defence they have should take them far although I agree they probably will struggle in Seattle. They do have a much better chance now though because with the long range passing accuracy that Rex Grossman gives them teams can't just try to stop the run anymore and with the defence getting a little more rest than before it'll be even tougher scoring against them.

what is it about the oakland raiders that got so much torontorian's attention?
thought the dallas cowboys are always peoples' favourite?

raider gear is pretty popular with rappers etc. as it´s "gangsta!" ... the dallas cowboys are just the self appointed "america´s team"

The post season starts next week..

Giants host to the Carolina Panthers

They had only played once this season @ Giants stadium with a 21 - 27 Giants win...although the Panthers crushed Atlanta 44-11 this past week. Panthers are looking like they'll give them a run for they're money.

Me thinks the Giants will not let us down and do as usuall ....lose when it counts, like they always do.

Panthers blast Giants 23-0 in wild card

steemrolled over the (not so) Giants

Like that wasn't predictabe.:p

Condolences to Mathias...hope he's able to afford the internet some time soon again and/or hoping he's well. This place isn't the same without his sarcastic slights of right-wingism.

Get feckin in. This doesnt make up for the Burton debacle. But the Panthers at least put a smile on my face this evening.

Parcells extends his contract.

Giants get shutout...at home. (And before Giants fans try to get cute, I know Dallas didn't make the playoffs. But they'll be watching the rest of post-season from home...just like Giants fans and players.)

Texas Longhorns are national champions.

Dallas Stars are playing superb hockey.

Only negatives- United drew and the Deadskins somehow managed to beat Tampa Bay. Rather enjoyable weekend for me despite the two negatives.

The Giants will never win a championship, as wont the Colts as long as a Flanders brother is at QB.
