NFL Season Begins Tonight...

Marcello, I don´t think they´re world beaters, their wins were all pretty dodgy, not to say just plain luck, and I would love nothing more than a total Redskin collapse (as we have their first rounder :D), but I was surprised at how well they played on Sunday. Ok, the refs were horrible and screwed both teams and the field had seen better days, but overall I didn´t expect this to be such a tough and close game.

Redskins didn´t take their chances when they had them and didn´t make the plays when they could, whereas we did (Bell´s 2 40 yard+ TDs, the blocked FG). Sauerbrun also had a pretty good day. The NFC East is looking pretty strong and interesting this season.

Next up: New England. Better hope Bailey is back after 2 weeks on the sidelines, but overall we always play pretty well against New England.

I wonder about this, but it's probably just that in "the Age of Parity" there is no dominant team. I'm a NY Giants fan, and we are currently atop the NFC East pending the "big showdown" with a Cowboys team that has done little to impress me (but thanks for beating the Iggles). I await the 'Skins trip back to reality (about 7-9). Are the records of Big Blue, the Boys and the Skins deceptive, based on who we've played so far, or are any of these teams really "playoff contenders?"

Dallas is in first place with 4 wins, 2 against divisional rivals. They have 1 game up on the other 3 teams in the win column. That meltdown against Washington hurts right now as the Boys should be 5-1 (also hurts because I hate the f'n Deadskins; and had the Boys scored inside the OAK 10 late in the game, we could be talking 6-0). But those are the breaks- you get some, but don't get them all.

Thankfully, Washington tanked it at KC yesterday (as predicted by me), allowing Dallas to take sole possesion of first. Philly had a bye this weekend. Dallas plays at Seattle on Sunday, which will be a difficult game trying to contain Shaun Alexander.

I think the Boys defense is quickly establishing itself as a force, but still is prone to surrender late scores. The Giants had 270 yards, but more than half of those came on the last 2 drives of the game. Fortunately, the Boys forced turnovers in the second half after making careless mistakes in the first half and gifting the Giants with 6 points. They can't continue to let teams back into the game or risk turning wins into losses. Had NYG won the OT coin toss, they might have drove downfield and won the game. I'm still in favor of both teams having at least one possession in OT.

4-2 Dallas (2-1 division)
3-2 Washington (2nd due to 1-0 division record)
3-2 NY Giants (3rd due to 3-1 conference record; 0-1 division)
3-2 Philadelphia (last due to 1-2 conference record; 0-1 division)

Marcello, youll have to do without Flozell Adams for the rest of the year.

I agree, but didn't want to sound like an irate Giants fan. . Unlike assoc. football or hockey, where possession changes frequently, and at unexpected times, gridiron football overtime seems to be a "get the ball, don't make any mistakes, get into field goal range" matter. Rather than "sudden-death," The NFL should just play an additional period. If the teams are still tied, call it a draw.

I know...and Torrin Tucker is not a LT...he's a freaking RG! I'm hoping the Boys may move Allen to LT and pull off a trade for Tonui Finoti, a 2004 all-pro LG, who the Chargers are shopping around for a mid rd pick (2nd, 3rd, or 4th most likely). But for a trade to be completed, Finoti would have to extend through at least 2006 with the acquiring team as no team will give up a high pick when he could leave in the off-season as a free agent without compensation.

The Boys have brought in a busload of tackles in the hopes of signing a player to fill Adam's vacated roster spot (not his starting position). Marc Columbo, a 2002 1st rd pick by Chicago, is among the invitees.

I'd personally pursue the Finoti option and move Allen to LT if the deal is struck. Otherwise, I suppose Parcells should start Tucker this week, but I'd rather see Allen at LT for the rest of the year (he was all-pro at LT in 1998), Rivera moved to LG, and Tucker compete with Peterman, Gurode, and Noll for the RG spot.

thank you, math. hopefully that derails the skins´ season and gives us us a nice, top 15 draft pick ... skins are 1-3 in their last 4, lone win against the powerhouse that is the san francisco 49ers ... talking of them  @ tampa bay

nothing new in denver .... broncos jump up to an early lead, only to meltdown in the 3rd and almost lose the game. props to foxworth for the HUGE goalline interception and jake plummer, mike anderson and tatum bell who yesterday made nfl history. bye couldnt come at a better point as bailey re-tweaked his hammy on to´s 90 yard reception.

Jens, what are the broncos needs in the draft this year?

I think a big time receiver would be priority #1. where else do you guys need help?

and why the feck don't the broncos go back to their new orange jerseys that they wore once or twice last year?

much better than the blue ones...I still remember the orange crush, and it looks much better and more classic.

depends a bit what happens for the rest of the season and if we can resign our own players.

on the defensive side were fine on the line (at last!!). we consistently get pressure on the quarterback, a few more sacks would be nice, but ill take it.

the linebackers are as good as it gets. there isnt many teams with a better group.

cornerbacks are fine. walls will get a bumper contract in free agency cos someone will fall in love with his size, but the rookies can play.

safety is a concern with lynch getting up there in age. NEED

plummer is quietly putting together a very good season and has finally stopped to force plays and will take what the defense gives him. wouldnt mind drafting the qb of the future so he can groom behind jake for a year or two, but it´s not a pressing need.

running backs ... are you kidding me? this is one of the best duos the nfl has seen in recent years.

oline ... hmmm .... if a stud falls to us here it´d be very, very hard to pass up on him.

tight ends ... if we can get the guy out of ucla, draft him. putz got a nice contract and is making the plays when his number is called, but shanahan has hardly used the tight ends so far and our inability to convert 3rd downs is concerning although i dont like the playcalling there either (empty backfield on 3rd and 3???)

wide receivers ... smith is still a stud, but hes getting up there in age and i have no clue how much he has left in the tank. lelie has been a disappointment so far. todd devoe had a huge reception in the 4th yesterday, so maybe he can step up down the line.

overall id say safety, wr/te and oline if a true stud is available are our most pressing needs. you still high on hagan?

the orange ones are officially the alternate jerseys ... no clue why they dont use them more often. reckon we could see the throwback unis for the thanksgiving game in dallas.

safety
wr
te

I still like Hagan alot.
Marcedes Lewis is an absoutely great TE
At Safety, I'd try and grab Darnell Bing from USC as well.

it's tough trying to figure out where you guys will draft, based on Washington.

your pick will probably be aboout in the high 20's I'd guess...if the skins really go to pieces you could get a top 10.

it would be a touch choice between the 3 players I mentioned for the two spots...for example, Lewis and Bing and Hagan will all likely be gone by your second pick, so it becomes which do you want the most with the the first, and which second rated player in that spot can you get with the second #1

when a wr is drafted by denver it´s usually some sort of a kiss of death. marcus nash (tennessee) was the biggest draft bust in shanahan´s time here and the jury is still out on lelie. he showed signs he could finally come into his own last season, but yet has to follow up on that this season. we have a speedster in lelie, so if we draft one high it should be a possession type of guy that can make the grab on third down and go over the middle. im still pissed off we passed on ed reed for lelie.

you can call me crazy if you want to, but if mason crosby declares early and hes still there by the time we pick in the 2nd, id do it. elam is getting up there in age and isnt making the kicks he gets top dollar for anymore.

btw, do you see reggie bush as an nfl rb? the guy is great on college level, but i dont really know if he can be an every down back in the nfl. lendale white just seems a bit more suited to that.

it's hard to say about reggie and lendale because I am biased and love both of them.

Lendale is a smaller faster version of Bettis. he really is a tremendous inside runner but with excellent breakaway speed through the first and second layers of the defense, but he rarely will break off a run longer than 50 yards and can be caught. Of course when you bite off large chunks of yardage the way he does it doesn't matter.

he tends to fluctuate in weight and motivation can be a problem occasionally, but if he gets the right coach and role models/ veteran players, He will be a great pro running back. He's very tough to bring down and trying to arm tackle him is futile, defenders have to plant him in the turf to get him down.

Reggie is another matter...he has always had trouble keeping weight on...all though he is solid as a rock...has about 4-5% body fat...is a dedicated worker and team player/leader...has no motivational problems and is a solid citizen.

he is a once in a decade player, and while I don't seem him as the next Thomlinson, I do see him as a new, faster more agile Marshall Faulk. He has the best hands I've seen catching the ball...inclduing receivers as well.

give him a great offensive coordinator in the pros and he will be lethal, but he deffo can't be used to run inside too often for he will take a beating and he is just too important and dangerous, running to the outside and catching the ball etc.

he is listed as 6'0 200, but he is deffo not 6'0. more like 5'10 1/2...he has put on some serious muscle this year, so I'd put him around 205-210, with no loss of agility.

I do think he has lost a touch of speed due to the weight increase, and the wear and tear of trying to prove he is an everydown, inside runner as well as a knock he picked up early in the season.

he will be sensational wherever he goes. every time he touches the ball, anything can happen. He is just a joy to watch for anyone who loves football IMO.

it's doubtfull pro teams will let him return kickoffs though...maybe punts they'll let him because he is too valuable.

IMO, he is the type of player who could rush for 20 touchdowns and catch 10 more per season if used properly the way Marshall Faulk is/was.

all hail god´s gift to humanity: TERRELL OWENS!!!

"I've had an opportunity to talk with the Eagles organization and I have learned that the team does not recognize individual achievements," Owens said in a prepared statement. "It has been brought to my attention that I have offended the organization and my teammates. Therefore, I would like to apologize for any derogatory comments toward them."

andy reid has apparently suspended to until further notice

he'd be perfect for SD or any number of teams...but he is such a risk of disruption.

if Moss is worth a #1, so is T.O.

the question is...will he be worth it?

it would be a tremendous move for the Broncos I would think...

they have two picks in the first round, give up one(higher one) to get T.O. which solves their receiver problems and gives Plummer a world class player to throw to.

and with their second first rounder, maybe throw in a 4th rounder to move up a bit and fill their top other need. that would be a good move if they could sign him to a new deal and he doesn't act like a complete asshole.

the Eagles can get the high pick and get the power runner they need (Lendale white or laurence maroney) plus grab a receiver in the first round with their original pick which should be high teens.

i just threw up over my keyboard, flashie ...

Considering Denver is playing very well right now, why add a player who, while brilliant, is also a pain in the ass?

FLASHWOK said:
he is a royal pain in the ass...I hate him. but he is an awesome player...and denver needs a new receiver.

he'll shut up for the most part if they give him his big contract.

They are doing fine without him--keep all of the picks I say.

I actuallyjust had a major T.O. brainstorm/revelation

2nd half is starting so I will tell you at the end of the game.

you're going to love it ;)
Trade him to Houston :smirk:

I can't envision any team willing to give TO a big contract. I can only see a one, maybe two year deal. That's it. He's screwed himself. If he can't be happy on a team that had Super Bowl aspirations, where will he be happy?

where all troubled, pain in the asses are happy...

OAKLAND

think about it...give him his contract which will satisfy him as much as a miserble jerk like him can be.

acquire him by trading Jerry Porter to the Eagles, who will be glad to get rid of him and get a receiver who is 4 1/2 years younger, and much less of a pain in the ass.

Owens and Moss at receiver...can you imagine it? Moss your deep guy, T.O. your posession/ mid-range guy.

Collins can still chuck it...

and maybe, just maybe, if you send T.O. to a place with so many ego driven loons and non "team players" he will fit in...it has worked for Oakland in the past.

seriously, can you think of a place that has more spoiled, self centered players than Oakland would have? T.O. Moss Sapp Woodson...maybe that is just what they need...to be a team of lunatics who are allowed to be lunatics, jerks, poor sports...just like the raiders of old.

can you honestly think of how badly the two best receivers in the game would want to one up and outperform each other?

they have 7 draft picks to go after what has been killing them...a lack of defense.

loads of good linebackers coming out this year, not to mention some good defensive linemen to be had.

the offense could carry them, even without an awesome run game, and then next year, (2007) they can go get their new running back or QB in the first round.

it can't get any worse than it is for the raiders, or T.O. in the present situation ...so if you ask me it's a match made in heaven and seems perfect for someone like Al Davis... hell, I'd even email him to suggest it.

it is a looney solution, but nothing else would make any sense where the T.O. selfish asshole situation is concerned

the eagles just gave westbrook a new 5 year contract so any deal for a new running back is unlikely ....

you love speculation, dont you flashie?

I can't fathom Moss and Owens coexisting on the same team.

And if Owens had nothing but bad words for McNabb, imagine what he would say about Collins, who's shit.

However, I would love to see Sapp strangle TO once.

 Sapp would kill him

but still, you never know...imagine having to cover T.O. and Moss?

Collins is not great, but there is one thing he does very well, and that is throw the deep ball...if there's one thing receivers love, it's going long.

Bucs got spanked by Carolina ... good work from Delhomme. No offense once again, and Cadillac was shut down.

owens is done in philly ... andy reid has just announced that hell be suspended for four games and not be activated again this season.
