NFL Season Begins Tonight...

Offensively, the Ravens have problems all over. The QB is the most obvious--Boller isn't good enough to be a starter and his backup (I can't remember his name) is even worse.

Their offensive line is supposed to be solid, but they didn't look too good yesterday (particulary not when protecting for the pass).

Heap is an amazing TE, but I am still not entirely convinced about their WR corps. Yes, Mason had a good game, but the others are pretty inept, which doesn't bode well in a division (and conference) that is quite sound defensively.

No shame losing to arguably the best team in the NFL. However, the way you guys lost was pathetic. Why can't Baltimore find a legit QB? They should never have let Dilfer go. He's nothing special, but he did get the job done in 2000.

Billick will be looking for a veteran QB next season, if he's still around. I can't see Boller lasting as the incumbent beyond 2005, might even get the 'heave-ho' by November. I could see the Ravens being a player in the Brees/Rivers saga or even making a big trade up for #1 next season to draft Leinart.

And perhaps a coaching change may be necessary.

I could see Denver making a pitch at Leinart if Plummer´s "performance" yesterday is anything to go by. That´s 2 games in a row he´s let the defense down now. We have 2 #1s already and one of them might even be a top 10 pick (beat Washington next Monday, will you?). Wonder if the Ravens have the money to get Rivers/Brees/Leinart. Ed Reed and Jamal Lewis are up for a new contracts soon and that won´t be cheap.

@mlg

Their first rounder this season is a WR, Mark Clayton.

that first rounder that Denver has is an absolute gift...that could be a top 5 pick let alone a top 10.

don't see them getting Leinart though...he'll be gone right away to the Dolphins probably.

True, but he is no Braylon Edwards, Michael Clayton or Roy Williams.

Yep, and also WRs usually need 2-3 season until they break through. But they´re doing something at WR at least. Looks like Boller could be out for a while anyway with his toe injury.

@WOK

Leinart, apart from the obvious reasons, would be tempting for the Broncos as he´s left handed. We haven´t had a stud LT since the days of Tony Jones and Gary Zimmerman, but we do have a very promising RT in George Forster.

Javon Walker and Kris Jenkins have torn their ACLs. If I was Brett Favre I´d start looking for the panic button.

what are the Broncos needs?

I think they could grab Omar Jacobs @ QB if the washington pick is high enough, and maybe grab Derrick Hagan if he's still on the board with their next pick.

there are a couple of great OL's coming out for them to choose from.

Winston Justice is awesome at RT
Marcus McNeill is Awesome at tackle as well
D'Brickashaw Ferguson is awesome as well.

this years receiver class won't be that strong, but next years will be.

Bit early to say.

QB: Plummer might be on the bubble if he doesn´t start cutting down on stupid mistakes and interceptions this season. Van Pelt is a backup, no more.

RB: Self explaining.

TE: Denver matched the Jets´ offer and gave Putzier a pretty decent contract. Also there´s Stephen Alexander and Wesley Duke, a guy that only played basketball in college but the former Chargers TE coach is in Denver now. :)

WR: Who knows how much Rod Smith has left in the tank? Lelie is a stud and the team likes Darius Watts, but his hands are concerning, to say the least.

OL: Nalen is probably playing his last season and Lepsis might be gone due to a large cap number. Hamilton will probably take over from Nalen at C. Could use some help at guard and a stud LT but the Broncos rarely draft O-Liners in the first round.

DL: Pryce probably will be gone. As for the rest, ask me again in a few weeks.

LB: Gold, Wilson, DJ Williams. Don´t think too many teams have a better group of LBs.

CB: Bailey, Walls and the 3 rookies ... pretty solid.

S: Lynch is getting up there in age, Ferguson is ok. Could use some help.

From what I´ve heard Jacobs is more mobile than Leinart and Shanahan´s system needs a mobile QB. You saw what happened to Griese in Denver. I just think Shanahan could be on the bubble tho.

Chargers or Chiefs is my pick for the AFC West right now. The game at Mile High on Sunday could be interesting as neither team can really afford a loss after dropping the opener. The Bolts record in Denver isn´t pretty and Plummer needs to step up.

I think Jacobs is awesome...the more I watch the more I like him...he could be a great pick for them....and with Rod Smith on the down slope, Hagan could be the man if they can get him.

I hate the Giants, I have always hated them. They suck. They are a New Jersey team.

watching them get torched in the Super Bowl vs. The Ravens gave me a great deal of joy...

You scum bag ;)

How did you come to support the Cowboys?

The thing with the Broncos and Shanahan is that they will always have a great running game.

Christ, if Jens lined up at RB even he could have a 1,000 yard season ;)

The Broncs were shocking against Miami. Never liked Plummer much, anyway - after watching that game - I now remember exactly why. He had a good year last season, too. That team has got way too many question marks right now. Hope the Bolts can take advantage. Chiefs are wait and see, for me. They haven't had a defense in years. Let's see if it holds up.

Shanahan is vastly overrated as a coach. His O-line coach, who moved on to ATL last season, was the one who made that running game work. TD and Elway also had something to do with that, as well.

me and my two first cousins (who I'm as close to as brothers since we grew up together) were converted when we were young by their stepdad whose family is from Dallas...he got us in 1976.

all three of us support all the same teams.

Yankees
Cowboys
NY Rangers

Gibbs was gone for a while inbetween and only came back as a part time coach and we still had a good running game. Bobby Turner, the RB Coach, is the main reason in my opinion. But I´m not happy with Rick Dennison. Droughns, a full back, rushed for 1,200 last season and you saw what truly talented backs like Clinton Portis and Terrell Davis did in that system.

@ Jake

He tries to force things and that´s when he makes those stupid mistakes. That left handed pass against KC in the season opener last year will live with me for a while. He plays with a lot of heart, so you can´t fault him there, but for me it´s pretty obvious that he is not the long term solution. I reckon we´ll draft a QB in 2006, let him hold the clip board for a year and get rid of Plummer after that. He´s not perfect, but he gets too much undeserved stick IMO. He broke or tied Elway´s season records for yards and TDs last season, but the 20 INTs were a killer.

Can't disagree with that. Do you still run that crackback blocking scheme? Might be illegal, but it's damned effective.

RBs with talent always get theres. It's RBs with a talented line that can get more.

My adopted team won, even after I cursed them with the hurricane by picking them out of the hat...

Sorry Cello, I was busy trying to track down the official who threw that roughing call on 3rd and forever

quick news ... skins new starting qb is mark brunell, ramsey has requested a trade. the saints will play 3 of their home games @ the alamodome and the other 4 at lsu´s tiger stadium.

You also missed out Walker (WR - GB) tearing up his knee and being out for the year. Fantasy freaks - start your waiver wire engines.

kris jenkins, too. feel really sorry for jenkins, especially as he missed most of last season with a shoulder injury.

talking of shoulders ... bailey suffered a dislocated shoulder yesterday and shanahan says it could take up to 3 weeks, but there´s an outside chance he could play v san diego on sunday. anderson´s status, who suffered a rip injury, depends on his pain tolerance. hopefully they dont rush bailey back ... :nervous:

Sounds like he'll play in nickel coverage then. You'd hate for him to have to rush them back so soon...but he might not be able to afford to wait those 3 weeks. If SD can get them at home, it might be "all hands on deck" panic time.
