King Henry to the Ravens let’s gooooo

FFS, they are going to run even more and do it even more efficiently.

Had Derrick Henry turned to shit in the last year?

Meh. I don't particularly like this, I don't like signing 30+ RBs with a ton of wear on the tyres. I get why they did it, but I just don't like the move overall.

I do, however, like Queen going to Pittsburgh, are they short of LBs that can't play LB?

Deal is lower than I expected and surprised Titans didn't either tag him or extend him for a slightly higher amount than the $8m (rising to 10) he's getting with Baltimore. 2 years ago the Titans would have been looking for a McCaffrey like haul for him.

He's 30 and not nearly the player he was 4 years ago, so at the end of the day, this will probably end up being a very slight improvement on Edwards.

I barely watched or took notice of the Titans and his stats last year which is why I asked. I remember 2 seasons ago in every Titans game the commentators would make a point to say that Henry gets better in the 4th quarter against tired defenses. Cue him doing feck all and them being all surprised by it and praising the defense to high water. He averaged 2 less yards per carry in the 4th quarter than he did in the 1st that season. It was pretty funny how they repeated the same old shite every game he was in.

What a crazy tweet  think it's troll account but made me laugh.

The market for Fields has dried up considerably outside of the Broncos, and I’m not sure he’s a fit for Payton…even aside from the consideration of his rumored price being a 2nd (+) and us not even having one.

There’s still a parallel universe where Denver uses its 2025 1st and…I don’t know, something…to pip the Vikes to the next preferred QB.

Smart move, he's becoming more like Brady every year. Doesn't get mentioned enough that besides his obvious talent, good health and longevity, how much Brady's contract restructurings have freed up cap space for his teams over the years allowing them to compete for Super Bowls. Looks like Mahomes is willing to do the same.

Came to post the exact same thing.

I think Henry still has something left in the tank, and last year was a relatively "off year" for him re: usage if I remember correctly, don't know his exact carries but they sprinkled in Tyjae Spaers a bit more, didn't they? Was more of a backfield split than it used to be a few years ago.

I don't think re-signing J.K. Dobbins was an option or makes sense given his injury history, but Gus Edwards at 2-years, $6.5m (what he got from the Chargers) would've likely been better value than Henry yeah, although Gus is also more injury-prone. Is Keaton Mitchell expected to be back for training camp / start of the season?

I just wanna see two Heisman winners in that backfield. However I do think this combo would've made more sense under Roman than it does under Monken, no?

Hope Lamar can finally get over the hump next season in the playoffs.

The more I think about the Packers big signings, the less I like them. We payed a running back top dollars, who finished last season with 3,5 ypc. That’s a horrible average and I don’t see why the team is so sure that will be improved on.
And the signing of McKinney puzzles me, too. During a time where basically every team releases their high paid safeties and the market is filled with highly talented and experienced safeties, we break the bank to hand 17 million a year to one. That doesn’t really strike me as a smart choice. There were so many proven veterans available for little money.
At the same time, we lose Runyan, a very solid guard with a good age.

I just don’t get it.

But first, a shout out to all our resident members who make each NFL season even more memorable.

I'm a Patriots fan. Just didn't post much.

I really don't know what the feck the Titans are thinking.

Step 1: trade away a 24 year old AJ Brown because you don't want to pay him
Step 2: draft Treylon Burks
Step 3: find out he's a bust and then pay 29 year old Calvin Ridley more than what Brown would have wanted two years ago

Such bad process. And it's not even like the Ridley contract is absurd or anything, he gets paid $23m on average which fits right in between Michael Pittman Jr. and Terry McLaurin, two receivers he's better than imo. Also has less wires on the tires because of injuries and suspension than a regular 29 year old, but still, I hope the contract has a few outs for the Titans after two years.

Should be putting up something like a 120-1,400-10 season though if he's the genuine #1 and Will Levis starts the entire year.

I don't remember the full context but could it be that the GM expected to extend Henry for a massive fee and maybe get a premium QB in FA? Otherwise trading Brown never made sense, there is probably a handful of better receivers in the league but the gap isn't that big between him and the top.

Hollywood brown on a relatively cheap deal. Very nice Veachy, very nice.

Fields really is the last domino which needs to fall in order to get a better understanding of the draft.

- Bears previously said they wanted to trade him nice and early if they're drafting Williams, but haven't done so. That either means they're building around Fields (I don't think so) or they didn't find a suitor who wanted to pay what they were after.
- Bears traded for Keenan Allen, which likely removes the option of them drafting Nabers or Odunze at #9. Trenches would be my guess there for them if they take Williams first overall. I just think they kinda HAVE to take their shot here with this pick, even if they think Fields might still turn out good. You reset the clock on your QB contract for the foreseeable future and get to find out whether he's truly close to generational or not.

Commanders are 100% drafting a QB, especially after trading Howell away to the Seahawks yesterday (lowkey like that for the Hawks by the way, Howell was kinda average last season but had a terrible, terrible O-line as well).

Pats were hard after Calvin Ridley which is weird imo because signing a 29-year old WR to a multi-year deal without a QB in place doesn't make sense. They might think their offense is in such a state that drafting a QB at #3 might put him in a horrible position unlikely to succeed in. That brings the nightmare scenario in play that they are drafting MHJ at #3, but I think it's more likely that they trade down at this point IF they are not convinced that Daniels or Maye is the answer for them right now.

Cardinals look like they need and want a WR to pair up with Kyler, makes even more sense now that Hollywood is gone.

Then you have the Chargers who let both Allen and Williams go in the last few days. There is no way that they are going into the new season with Quentin friggin Johnston as their #1 option (poor Justin Herbert), but all the noise is that Harbaugh wants to build his team through the trenches and run the feck out of the ball, so are they "wasting" a prime pick on Nabers at #5 with that philosophy? Nabers with Herbert would be juicy though.

No idea what the Giants are doing, but I doubt they know themselves.

If I had to take a guess right now:
1. Bears - Caleb Williams
2. Commanders - Drake Maye
3. Vikings - Jayden Daniels
4. Cardinals - Marvin Harrison Jr.
5. Chargers - Malik Nabers
6. Giants - Rome Odunze
7. Titans - Olumuwiya Fashanu
8. Falcons - Taliese Fuaga
9. Bears - Jared Verse
10. Broncos - J.J. McCarthy
11. Patriots - Dallas Turner
12. Jets - Terrion Arnold

Back-end of the first round should include a few more DB, OTs, and Brian Thomas Jr., Xavier Worthy and Troy Franklin for receivers. Perhaps Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. as well. The above is also harsh on Brock Bowers who is certainly a top 10 talent in this draft but hard to see where he would fit in or which team would use such a premimum pick on him. I recently saw the argument as to why to draft him high though, is because you get a premier pass-catcher who can move like a WR, but you can extend him at the going rate for TE which is significantly lower (unless he turns out to be the next Gronk, but even then).

I want to see Harbaugh go full chaos mode with a LAC rebuild and trade away Herbert so he is free to draft his boy JJ.

WR or trade back for an OL most likely, of course.

Vikings trade the 42nd, 188th and 2025 2nd Rd picks for Houstons 23rd and 232nd pick.

Vikings now have 2 picks in the first round so much more desirable capital to use to trade up.

That has to put a breeze up your skirt, no doubt. Thought of you immediately when I read that.
Why's that? I'm not a Vikings fan!

Proud JJ dynasty owner though so not sure I'd like JJ McCarthy there.

Seems odd to do this when both teams have no idea what's available at 23. Not often do you see this kind of trade so long before the draft. I can see it for the Vikings if the idea is to trade the 2 firsts to move up for a QB, but for the Texans...why not just wait until draft day when other teams will give you better value because there's a player they love sitting at 23.

I think they would have probably had enough without this to get to 5 which would be enough for JJ McCarthy.

I think they've got their eye on a top 3 pick. They'll not get the 1st off the Bears but maybe they can throw enough at the Pats for 3rd.

I was about to question your draft prediction and why the Patriots would deal with the Vikings instead of taking a QB themselves but now I wouldn't be surprised if it's the Commanders pick that is the target. The Vikings could easily trade their current 2024 first round picks and next year or the 2026 first round pick.

There is also the possibility of targetting Herbert if the Chargers have any interest in McCarthy, which can be a way for them to fix their cap issues.

From the Vikings side this is 100% with a view to trading up for a QB, there's no doubt about that.

They showed last year when they tried to move up for Richardson that was the way they were heading.

AJ Brown signed a 4 year $5.6m deal with the Titans in 2019, then was traded to the Eagles who gave him a 4 year $100m contract extension in 2022.

The overall cap in 2022 was $210,900,000. In 2024 it is $260,667,337.

In 2022 the Titans had Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry with a combined Cap hit of almost $50m, then in 2023 that became just under $53m. The dead cap in 2024 for those two players is slightly less than $14m in total.

So a huge increase in the overall cap and two big earners leaving makes for a very different financial environment in which to make decisions. No doubt there would have been scenarios in which they could have found a way to pay AJ Brown but that would have involved other painful decisions that we might criticise years later.

Calvin Ridley almost $47m guaranteed at signing (signing bonus + 2024 salary and 2025 salary). Remaining $45m Titans can get out of depending on the timing of the decision. $3m of 2026 salary is guaranteed early in 2025 season so looks to me as though they could get out after 2 seasons for $50m, saving $42m. Pats are such a mess that a QB would be put in a very bad situation. There are reports that they wanna build O-line and WR first before committing to their new QB. Commanders are 100% staying put and drafting a QB imo, otherwise there was no point in trading Howell.

Chargers trading Herbert away could be a possibility yeah, totally reset the clock with a new HC and gain some additional picks in the process.
