NFL 2024 | Christmas Day Double Header

The JJ and Rome hype is a little wild. Leaning towards the Broncs trading back at 12 because JJ McCarthy will be gone and the rest of the QBs are 2nd round quality or worse. Unless the DE Verse falls there as he might be a cornerstone piece.

"Violent, and yet graceful. Special."

Pass me a sick bucket.

Inevitable, but it's official now

His press conference speech was quite something.

He's not the greatest of all centers but it's the Eagles official account so it's probably expected. I think he'd be a great sports talk show guy post-NFL and probably be a Tony Siragusa sideline guy if he wants.

He's arguably in the top 10 centers but this list has a ton of all-timers and is subjective to era and personal opinion - I refuse to rank many positions pre-1960. Recency bias also plays into these claims of course. There's no easy means to compare OLmen as there are no true stats to compare, and certain analytics would have came along well after many all-time past greats laced up. I read an article that used AV and has Kelce 7th best, behind Jeff Saturday who was not better than Kelce let alone a number of other centers. AV is flawed by longevity though, according to the same article.

Dawson, Otto, Webster, Mawae, Stephenson, Langer, Ringo*, Tingelhoff appear in practically every list I've seen put forth on the internet. Then other standouts like Nalen, Kreutz, Pouncey (Hernandez supporting cnut, feck him), Mack, Stepnoski, Cross, Frederick, Bednarick*, so forth are mentioned along with Kelce. Matthews played more games at guard but did make five PBs at center vs nine at guard; he's arguably the most flexible OLman in history along with Larry Allen who dominated at four OL positions but never played center.

Frederick was better than Kelce but Guillain-Barre syndrome practically ruined his career and forced retirement after one full season following a full season on IR; he wasn't the same player that final season yet still made the PB (probably moreso by namesake). Maybe Frederick continues to be the dominant center or maybe Kelce surpasses him full stop, if there were no illness in 2018. Longevity plus performance and notereity will likely see most rank Kelce ahead, possibly rightfully so all factors considered. Frederick is sort of like Stephenson in this regard as we'll never know just how great he would have been.

Kelce has been the obvious best in the league since about 2019 - and also the biggest voice and name which helps - and the position was very competitve in the 2010s with Frederick, Mack, Pouncey, Mangold, Kalil, Kelce, etc. possibly a golden generation of centers if you will. Guess the next best behind Kelce this decade are Humphrey and Ragnow.

How hasn't your GM been fired? Just as bad as the Panthers GM who got booted.

This was brought up on Get Up! this morning about the worst NFL trades ever. This was up there with the Herschel Walker trade and also mentioned was the Trey Lance draft trade and had the 49ers not hit on Purdy it probably would have cost the GM and HC their jobs by now.

I love Rome Odunze. That's it, that's the post. Man's gonna be a baller straight out of college.

Agreed. So is Xavier Worthy who could end up a steal late in the first round into early second round. I read one mock draft that has Worthy to KC, as if Mahomes needs legit receiving weapons to win. That said, he drops catches and is quite skinny but he's explosive.

The trade was seen as a coup by basically everyone at the time, I think hindsighting that is unfair on Paton but the contract extension before he’d even played a game was definitely stupid.

Denver wanted Rodgers first and foremost, the Wilson move seems like the EPL version of a last minute transfer panic buy.

McCarthy could do with a year sitting, he's still very raw.

Broncos have released Justin Simmons :wenger:

Bills have released all of Morse, White and Poyer, which also seems overkill especially if you give Taylor Rapp a 3-year deal.

The Bills really shocked me. Getting rid of three high quality starters at the same time is quite drastic. Especially without any return.

The Broncos need the cap space, I guess. Can’t pay your guys big bucks when such a huge part of your cap is reserved for someone who isn’t on your team anymore.

Damn; Simmons is a glue guy on a team desperate for morale.

Salary cap deniers are in shambles; they belong with the flat-earthers and “Gandalf meant fly with the eagles” fools.

If you have been following the Saints the last decade then it feels right to question the system  But yeah, hell of a lot cap casualties already this offseason.

Jeudy to the Browns.

Edit: for a 5th and 6th round pick  But does save $13m cap space.

I'm guessing the Browns didn't pick up the phone to this gentleman.

Not a big surprise given we used the tag on Sneed instead of Jones. Hopefully there's no drop off from Jones and he continues at this rate for at least the next 3 years.

How are some players signing free agent deals? Is it because they've been cut, rather than entered free agency 'naturally'?

Yeah, FA deadlines relate to players with expiring contracts (Cousins for example), but players can already sign with new teams when their existing contracts have been terminated.

At least that’s how I always believed it works. Legal tampering period starts tomorrow and free agency on Wed or Thur I think.

What's up with Jacksonville acquiring Mac Jones? Is there concern over Lawrence's health?

I mean, guess it's never a bad thing to have a backup who can start when needed but there's surely no developmental decision at play here.

Looks like it's down to Cousins staying with Minnesota or taking an offer from Atlanta, barring some other club interrupting the likely process. If Atlanta fails to lure Cousins they may end up going for Fields but possibly after the draft. I still think that's a potential homerun for Atlanta if they get Fields.

I think the fact that Cousins has taken it this far would indicate to me that he's going to Atlanta. He knows what the Vikings are offering him and will know what's on the table from Atlanta so if he was re-signing with the Vikings it would have happened already.

The only way he stays in Minnesota now is if the Vikings completely cave and give him everything he's looking for, which I can't see happening now.

Tee Higgins has requested a trade

What we need know is Cinci moving up in the draft to select Nabers and construct an LSU Big 3 on offense.

They can get CEH and make it a full blown reunion.

Cousins to the Falcons!

DRAKE LONDON WR1 SZN FINALLY UPON US.

Edit: 4 year deal, wow. This man has been getting paid these last years.

I started to worry a lot, finally we can move on. Thank you Kirk and have a nice time in Atlanta.

Cousins has the best agent
Kirk Cousins is a genius.
