Best player in the World...?

Seems crazy to ask that with Messi about, but Neymar has quietly sneaked up behind him and Ronaldo and is now about to go into his peak years.

He's incredible, I'd rather Woody and Mourinho had left the Pogba transfer and just bid 200m on a proper, genuine, good to go elite player like this.

If we're gonna break records and spend silly money, at least lets do it with some style.

As far as I'm concerned, he's been better than Ronaldo for a while.

I think the trick is to know how many of his goals were match winners.

The Mail had an article on Costa, Morata and Lukaku as to who was the better striker recently.

Although Costa has not scored as many his goals he has earned more points than the others.

Better than Ronaldo, and currently better than Messi.

If he keeps performing consistently and steps up in the big matches at Barca I certainly wouldn't disagree that he's the best in the world.

Also I don't see why we need either Pogba or Neymar, we're fully able to have both should he be open to leaving Barca.

Do not want. Would stunt Martial & Rashford's progression

LOL
There's a young lad called Angel Gomes in our academy. If we sign Neymar on a 4 year deal with the potential to extend by additional year - Gomes will find it impossible to get game time

:D you don't need that white text, mate.

I suspect that Barca would be in total decline if they sell Neymar. He's their only attacker that put effort in big games whenever I watched them.

Hmmm. I think given the fact that those two that will never close to the other's level somewhat reduces the progression argument in this instance.

Edit: DAMN IT!!!

I think we're going to get incredible stick whatever we choose to spend, so why not spend very big? After all, while journalists went clickbait-bonkers over our Pogba fee, few mentioned that City spent more than any club...

Selling Neymar would be similar to United selling Pogba. Whats the point? He is their present and future. Messi and Suarez are around 30 and wont keep it up another few years game after game. If they sell Neymar, they will have to buy another wonderkid to replace him for big bucks anyway, that wont be better than him. Easier to give him a new contract and be done. Buy another top player in a few years (Dybala) and they will be fine offensively.

I think his release clause is £170m, hefty sum, but a world class player like him would take us to another level.

Want to believe there is something in this. He will never be the star or highest earner of Barcelona with Messi in the team, i don't know how much that means to him though. The reports say it does to a certain extend.

Maybe he would have a bigger chance to win Ballon d'Or with us?

It really is ridiculous money though. According to the article he also wants £21m a year after tax. If the club can afford that, why not? He's absolutely incredible and would improve us tenfold.

Years after he has retired, this is all that will matter, and he will simply be ranked alongside other greats based on how these numbers compare to theirs. This seems to be how it works now.

Won't that be 800k pre tax? That's absolutely insane.

Yep, signing Neymar also means we basically sign our first choice transfer targets since who doesn't want to play alongside Neymar?
The Messi situation is a real problem for them, its ridiculous that people think Neymar should wait 3/4 years to become the main man at Barca. Why not become the main man at United right now then become the centrepiece of Madrid at 29/30? Why shuffle up and down the wings during the prime of his career?

 It's the only paragraph that isn't behind a paywall in Castles article. £800k does sound nutty. Maybe it isn't a lump-sum deal of that much, and is similar to how Rooney owns a certain percentage of his image rights, or some sort of foray of clauses like that? I assume contracts are far more intricate than what we have them reported to us as.

You are trying to justify something that doesnt exist. I dont think he wants to be the main man at United. Why not stay at Barca and be one of the star players in the world while winning stuff and getting rich? He plays on the flanks, you would think he wants to play as a center forward? I dont know, we can only speculate and pose our opinions, but i dont see Neymar leaving Barca.

The only thing why these rumours persist is that he isnt the main man, and so far nobody knows if he really wants to be the main man or not at a club right now. As long as Barca value him and offer him enough money, he will stay in my opinion.

Yeah, I guess so. That said, Ronaldo is rumoured to be on 500k+ at Real so it probably isnt as far fetched as we'd like to think.

Not that I believe there's even a 0.1% chance of us signing Neymar, but if there was I'd say it'd be mental to spend our entire budget on one player. If we had a good team that was challenging for the title then fine, add a world class talent to take us up a level. But we need to strengthen several positions and even with our wealth we can't do that and buy Neymar. This whole rumour is total fantasy in every aspect.

There's enough smoke about his standing in the team that there has to be some validity to it though. It's not as if South American players are slow to vent their frustrations if needed.
The problem I have with Neymar staying post Messi is people are positioning him as a one club man based on nothing but Messi's age. When Messi retires and Neymar steps up he could have already sent 7/8 years at Barca. That's a big leap to make. We don't know his career plan, maybe his plans for the notorious brand Neymar is the show and pageantry of big money moves to sides that are massive in different markets?
Maybe he knows he's not spending that long at the club so those promises mean very little to him?
If he wants to win Balon Dors and become the global face of football I can see why being told he has to wait 3/4 years to do so is grating to him.
We're all in the La Liga trance, they have us hypnotised about situations like this. Neymar etc are supposed to play for Barca and Madrid, that's the pinnacle why should they leave?
Well what happens if a player simply fancies more money that Barca can't afford and an importance in the side that Barca can't provide?
Is he really that much of a Barca fan that he views Barca so far ahead of the rest that it's worth it? He was a huge Madrid fan growing up.

Get real.... 150m plus wages never happening.

Actually, I expect Woody would make it happen.

His profile is second only to Messi and Ronaldo.

However, the key is if he pushed for a move. Which seems unlikely.

What do you think he, Messi and Ronaldo are on now? They'd laugh at what United is paying Rooney.
Remember that Barca's wages make up 70-75% of their revenue. And they have the highest revenue.

This kind of player (top 5 superstar in the world) would have to run their contract down to make sense to buy them nowadays. On his final year he'd still be worth £50m easily.

But if you buy him for £150m and he ends up breaking a leg like Shaw.... :nervous:
Or simply fails to deliver in the EPL.

Just too much risk with a move like that for me.

That's exactly with Barcelona won't sell him. Why would you? There isn't a replacement in the entire world market yet.

500k odd, no?

Would be the biggest transfer since Ronaldo if it happened and he'd have a genuine chance of going down as our greatest player ever if he performs here. Hope he comes.

I think for Ronaldo and Messi you're looking at €20m after(!) taxes. Bale and Neymar are not far behind. Wages in Spain and Italy are mostly stated as net, and in England and Germany as gross.

If you go with €20m and 45% taxes and an fx rate of 1.18 you end up at something like £600k/week pre tax (if i didn't f*** my math). So essentially two Rooneys. And Neymar would probably look for more if(!) he'd be moving.
