Neymar

Won't that be 800k pre tax? That's absolutely insane.
That's what cristiano ronaldo is on. Messi is about to get £1.3M a week...

That's what it takes to get one of the 3 best players in the world nowadays

Why is there even a transfer thread on him? Why would he go to united?
This should be a new thread. "I can't believe a world class player wants to go to United. Not until I read this ..."

Buying Neymar would be the equivalent of spending a shit load of cash on a car to make it look great, yet bypassing the fact that it doesn't actually have an engine to make it go anywhere.

We lack creative players that can break down stubborn defensive walls. Case in point Saturday but it's been the same all season.

Besides, buying Neymar would not mean we can't spend further on other areas of need.

The problem is scoring goals. Neymar/Griezmann would be the perfect solution

What do you think he, Messi and Ronaldo are on now? They'd laugh at what United is paying Rooney.
Remember that Barca's wages make up 70-75% of their revenue. And they have the highest revenue.

United had the highest revenue last year.

I would note that Real and Barca take 50% of image rights. I'm not sure how exactly that factors into Messi and Ronaldo's pay.

Top rate of tax in Spainis higher than the U.K. At 53% v 45%

Apparently those lot have been dodging Spanish taxes though...

People forget no team would pay the sum upfront, it'd be paid in yearly payments. Lets assume he costs 130-150, assuming we get all the deadwood off the payroll, that's around 25m+ a year we are saving. We also have the 50million from Morgan and Depay, money won't be an issue, we could still strengthen other areas of the squad.

I genuinely believe we need to spend around 200m+ this summer regardless, our squad has so many glaring weaknesses', it's simply not good enough.

We could afford him easily and it wouldn't hinder us strengthening other positions, will we sign him though? Not a chance in hell.

Oh yeah sure, why not. I mean it's only going to cost us £170m plus his wages right? Pocket change.

Honestly, too many football fans live in some kind of managerial dream world. I really am losing enthusiasm for the modern game.

I have no doubts whatsoever that United would stump up the cash - Woody would be chomping at the bit to drop a shed load of cash on this one. The issue is Neymar would have to be absolutely bonkers to leave Barca for us, and this is clearly just the standard posturing to get a better deal.

Barcelona only retain collective image rights(that is, when more than 4 players appear together) and image rights associated with the club(e.g. If the player appears in an ad wearing a barca shirt, the money goes to the club). The rest is left entirely to the players.

As for us, we generally just take a %50 cut of all the rights, with the exception of cristiano ronaldo(split 70/30 for the player)

Apparently those lot have been dodging Spanish taxes though...
No, the players are, on their own % of image rights

That's only if barca accept to sell. If you trigger the release clause you have to pay the entire sum within 30 days

If Neymar would be willing to come here I assume tax fraud issues could be one of the reasons, I think it´s unlikely but would he "pay" for himself like Ronaldo did when joining Madrid because of increased shirt sales, sponsorship and perhaps Adidas being interested in getting Neymar aboard?

The Neymar to PSG ship has sailed last summer so if he moves it will probably be for EPL.

I think its a dead cert that he is coming here

Why would he want to stay at Barca with its sunny clime and play with the likes of Ineista, Suarez and Messi when he can come to rainy cold manchester and play with Ashley young & Fellaini?

Good point - also he is just on the cusp of becoming the main man at Barcelona with Messi, etc. entering the last part of their careers leaving the way for Neymar clear to be number 1 but that doesnt compare with the chance to play for Utd. I'd get the Neymar shirts sorted if I were you.

Hmm.. assuming he's leaving Barca and joining us, which is quite realistic since we have the financial muscle to flex, and the world club image & profile to boot.

Yeap, Neymar fits the profile of player which we definitely lack currently ~ the kind of player who could win matches on his own individually with his skill and prowess, and have good finishing ability.

But that would only happens (a big-) IF we're qualified for Champions League next season, the minimum requirement.

Also, since transfer to Real is forbidden, while French, German, and Italian leagues are not that competitive enough for his level, only EPL can post that challenge.

Hypothetically.

Not that I believe there's even a 0.1% chance of us signing Neymar, but if there was I'd say it'd be mental to spend our entire budget on one player. If we had a good team that was challenging for the title then fine, add a world class talent to take us up a level. But we need to strengthen several positions and even with our wealth we can't do that and buy Neymar. This whole rumour is total fantasy in every aspect.
That world-class talent would've given us points in our countless home draws (what's the stats now, 8 out of 12 games?), which will immediately elevate us by a level or even two

but their performance is often solid (whatever that means)

Damn it man. You are using logic and that is no place for logic on this forum

I remember, when I pointed something similar out 2 seasons ago, as to why players would choose Real Madrid, over MUFC. I got a lot of flack. Some MUFC fans are very precious who don't want to face facts or logic.

In the past, I have read:
- Rooney and Falcao will score hat-tricks for us
- a 19 year old who has hardly ever played in our first team (Mensah), will transform us from a 5th place team into a title winning team.
- L.Shaw is the best LB in the World
- Martial is going to win the Ball on Dor very soon.

Now we can add:
- Neymar will ditch Barcelona to play for MUFC, alongside Fellaini and Young.

TBF I'd be very worried if any fan actually thought we have a chance at signing Neymar. Think most of them are just having some fun

That would be like a merger between Poundland and Harrods...

Well it would be one way to help Pogba get over his stage fright at being the most expensive player in the World:lol:

Thanks for the info. Very interesting.

I do actually mean the players were dodging tax, not the clubs.

I wonder how the image rights stuff affects like-for-like remuneration at other top clubs?

As in, exactly just how much more are Ronaldo and Messi making than the Pogbas/Agueros etc.

A lot Moreland deservedly so, I am sure.

This two have a profile in another stratosphere to anyone else, including Neymar.

Well, iirc Di Marzio reported Pogba's wages as €13M after tax, plus another €7M for 50% of his image rights(think total. Not per year)

So keeping that in consideration, unless they also gave him a signing bonus, he's earning much less than messi and cristiano, but only slightly less than neymar, suarez and bale

Lets see. The chance to build his brand, money, be the star, an exciting project, play with Pogba, play under Jose, always dreamed of playing at Old Trafford, wings restaurant etc

It will be Wings Restaurant that will swing it.

I signed him on fm a couple of years ago for £118 mill and I thought I was ruining the experience of the game for myself by throwing unrealistic levels of money for him at the time!
