People forget no team would pay the sum upfront, it'd be paid in yearly payments. Lets assume he costs 130-150, assuming we get all the deadwood off the payroll, that's around 25m+ a year we are saving. We also have the 50million from Morgan and Depay, money won't be an issue, we could still strengthen other areas of the squad.

I genuinely believe we need to spend around 200m+ this summer regardless, our squad has so many glaring weaknesses', it's simply not good enough.

We could afford him easily and it wouldn't hinder us strengthening other positions, will we sign him though? Not a chance in hell.
Depends what the selling club demand. We wanted Ronaldo money up front and I think Spurs wanted same for Bale.

Your reasoning?

1. His value is peaking atm which coincides with other squad changes that are needed
2. Neymar was never likely to retire at Barcelona or only one club in Europe after 4 years here
3. As much as I see him as a worthy successor to Messi at Barcelona, I am unconvinced that he has the professionalism to be the leader needed

The board is difficult to read but they've also sacrificed a great deal to land him in the first place. I still believe it is unlikely they make this move because of this but I would support it

I agree

Rashford
Neymar - Martial - Mkhitaryan
Pogba - Herrera

That front 6 would be ridiculous.

Do you not feel that once that burden is on him, he will thrive - akin to the Brazil NT? At the minute Messi is still quite clearly the main man, but when that day does come?

Also, who would you replace him with? There's very few - if any - high quality left wingers let alone one to Neymar's quality.

I don't agree with the first bit. His work ethic on the pitch is superb and he's shown he can lead with Brazil.
I don't really understand the second bit. What does the sacrifice used to land him have to do with keeping him?

I believe he will thrive, there's no denying his talent - I just think he's not driven to be the sort of leader at Barcelona most fans would envision. Dani Alves, a fellow Brasilian and party boy, is as Professional as they come yet they are miles apart in this regard and I thought a few years at Barcelona together would see Neymar internalize this work ethic but I have given up. Still getting himself intentionally sent off to attend his sister's birthday, 3 seasons in a row. No way Messi or Alves would ever pull a stunt like this

Wasn't talking about his work ethic or play on the pitch

The board saw Rosell leave in disgrace and have them drawn into legal battles on multiple fronts to now sell him on - it would represent an acknowledgement of failure

Take Neymar of Barca and Bale from us and you have your galacticos for next season. Everyone's happy.

IMO, that makes it even more unlikely they are willing to let him go.

I agree, perhaps that wasn't clear before but I have a hard time seeing the board letting him go for the reasons already described. However, they are difficult to read and money is money

From a sporting perspective and as a fan of the club, as strange as it sounds - I am for his sale

If Bale did manage to recover from injury nightmare ala Robben..

United would finally get their Ribery and Robben duo.

He had a lot of calf (soleus) injuries during his years in Madrid and those take really long to properly heal. It has been reported that they push him back into the squad as soon as he can walk and that he's been playing through pain a lot lately. Makes sense all together.

Everyone was surprised he was starting on Sunday because we all knew he won't make it until the end of the first half. Perez is a great businessman but with him you have to take the good with the bad, the bad being insisting on starting BBC in all big games no matter what.

I would happily take Neymar, unfortunately I don't see Barca selling the best player of the upcoming generation.

Doesn't Neymar strike you as the kind of player that'd hate the lifestyle here? I think he'd be a risk. Could see another Di Maria scenario if we signed him. Wet dream for Woody though so you never know.

Both Neymar or Martial would better suited than Rashford as CF in that lineup. Move Rashford to the left, Martial up top and Neymar to #10 role and you get maximum effect.

Similar to that in our current situation...Rashford is more CF than LW but with Martial in the squad we will work better if Martial is one up top and Rashford plays wide. They will interchange obviously but Martial being the one spending most time as CF would benefit us the most.

Unless they reopen Hacienda

"If he stays, I'll go."

Neymar has a big bust up with Barca assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue. 200m is too much for any, but he is the next best thing to Ronaldo/Messi in world football, his shirt sales would go through the roof. Should we temp him with a little bid :P :D

Unzúe was totally right, and probably is not the only one in the squad thinking the same

I want us to sell Neymar at the right time, just at the end of his peak, but when his value is still as high as possible.

We should have sold Ronaldinho in 2007 instead of 2008. We would probably have got 40 million more.

Obviously these things are very difficult to predict.

Unzue said: "If you continue this way, you'll end up just like Ronaldinho." In reference to Ronaldinho's party-boy lifestyle and notoriously poor work ethics when it came to training, which ultimately saw his time at Barcelona come to a somewhat disappointing end.
Interesting. Isn't Unzue who Messi wants to be next Barca manager?

Unzue is spot on though with what he said. The situation with Neymar's sister's birthday every year is ridiculous.

Why is everyone obsessed with shirt sales ?

 Oh dear. Why would you want Neymar after he spat he dummy out to a few home truths? Jose would eat him alive is he didn't pull his weight.

What's with his sister's birthday?

 At people saying "Unzue is spot on, well said".

It's the spanish media ffs, 1 week ago they literally had a news story that Unzue was Ney's 1st choice. Besides, how are they quoting a very private locker room dirty laundry meeting? We're suppose to believe they are telepathic, or that a player leaked this? Certainly you guys are better than this..
