Di Maria (he was a hot property that season); Costa; quite possibly Griezmann this summer;
Silva, Mata, Aguero, Toure, Sanchez, Ozil all came to this league, some not so long ago.

It's not about the league. The club - yeah, it's hard to see an English club snatching someone from Real or Barca without them wanting to get rid of those players (Di Maria, Sanchez etc.). Although United already won the bidding war with the Spanish giants for Pogba, for example, and it's a big step towards the change of the overall league balance.

We have attracted big players of course but there is usually a caveat with it, and I could make you a much better list of players who have chosen la liga. Pogba is the biggest player the league has ever attracted which is a fair point.

I agree in terms of the pool of players they can shop in the big two are the only ones clear of prem teams but they are hugely clear. Then the quality of other lower Spanish teams who cannot afford as good players is still higher on cheaper squads.

Messi is still better against the minnow teams, but when it comes to big games there isn't a player in the world I'd take over Neymar. He seems to thrive off pressure.

I don't want to disagree, but Neymar being reliable in big games is a relatively recent thing (talking club football only).
The Spanish press had made a thing of calling him out for not being the one to score "the first goal" or the "winning goal" (which I personally thought was ridiculous and unfair considering the forward line they had) at the beginning of the season, the champions league ties versus PSG shut them up though.

I don't know as a toddler, but when he started for FCB's first team, his finishing was indeed erratic.
Not with regards to finishing, but Iniesta also grew and grew into his role, whereas when he started a few Barca fans I knew were puzzled to why he was chosen.

That's generally the case with every player. They improve with age and experience until they hit their peak. However, if there's any truth to what 'successful' tried to say then great.

Shevchenko was a pretty big deal, as was Crespo. Oh and Ballack. Not to mention Veron. Ravenelli, Vialli, Zola, Bergkamp, Torres, Aguero etc. many big big players have come.

So much thought process lost over this ridiculous rumour. He's going to stay, and he's going to win the Ballon d'Or at Barça.

Besides, we have Martial. Have some faith people!

Pretty sure that it's possible to play both and it shouldn't stop us from signing Neymar if we'll get the chance anyway. We won't though.

I think he's talking about the recent times - before Barca re-emerged you can say that EPL was probably the best league in the world, so it attracted the very best players by definition. There certainly wasn't any significant gap between United/Chelsea/Arsenal and Barca/Madrid/Milan. But since we sold Ronaldo it all went downhill (Cesc, Modric, Bale, Suarez)

Mbappe, Neymar and Griezmann are the thing now.
We could spend £150m net on three players in positions we're lacking or £150m on one guy who would replace a couple of potential worldies. Why would we?

None of the names you mentioned were a bigger deal than Pogba, although they were big deals. Also given the shift in tide its an even bigger deal given the regularity with which the best names are going to the big two, its pretty much assumed if you are an elite player you will one day end up at them. Players like veratti, pogba, dybala, even mbappe now, there is an assumption they will go to them at some stage.

I can see Woodward being all over this tbh. He's been leading this war against Real and Barca, and the ultimate statement , far more than 'stopping the best players in the world from all going there', would be to take one of the best players in the world from one of them that they would want to keep. It would be seismic in world football, not something that has happened in as long as I can remember. Figo left Barca in his prime, but he stayed within the two. Taking a potential Ballon D'or winner at 25 is huge.

I think it's safe to assume this is Woody's ultimate transfer target but it's not going to happen. I will say, what the hell is going on with Barca and Messi contract situation? Do they even have the wage structure to pay Messi after giving Neymar and Suarez fat contracts?

Martial will never reach the heights of Neymar. Not even close.

Maybe not, but he is an exceptional player in his own right. He regularly cut open defences under LvG even though we allowed the opposition to sit deep. So yeah, I pretty much think we have our Neymar. Just need to back him.

We've been pursuing for 3 years now. Time to give up. It simply makes no sense for hin to leave.

I think Martial will be a Robben lite

I see similarities too, just right footed, given the proper circumstances he could do worst than emulate Robben. Alas I also think Robben played better and contributed more when not managed by Mourinho.

This is pretty much a no-go. There's no chance Neymar wants to leave Barcelona.

For Barcelona sure. TBF though he's been coming in clutch for Brazil for a while now. He was dragging them across the line with his performances in the 2014 WC when Brazil where completely underwhelming, for eg. Was by far their most important player in their Confed cup win a few years back too.

It's only recently he's started doing it for Barca because TBF given their quality they've never really needed him to. Last season in that period where Messi was injured and recently this season, he has showed he is more than capable though

1. He's not going to come.
2. He's dragging us along to get a better contract
3. He won't survive in the PL
4. He dives way too much, I'm not a huge fan
5. Hate to have players who consider themselves bigger than the club and Neymar is one of them
6. We don't need him. Griezmann is 10 times the man Neymar is and I would pay his release clause just because you know he's talented and he's a team player.

most of those you mention were slightly past their peak . Imho Neymar is approaching his.

He won't survive in the premier league?

What nonsense is this?

Neymar would be crazy to join us to be completely honest.
Weather and lifestyle of the two cities apart, we are simply a class below Barcelona on the pitch and have been for almost 10 years.
I actually think we are capable of paying more than anyone in world football for him because a) our club is very very wealthy and b) the board are so desperate for us to get back to the top.
If the only way we can get back to the top is by continuously breaking the world transfer fee then so be it. I will not argue. I highly doubt we will see another Fergie era at United in the foreseeable future.

I would love to see him in the Prem and obviously at United. Get it done Ed.

 "Won't survive in the PL"

What I mean by that is that he'll be targeted and the PL defenders will go harder on him. And him being the delicate soul that he is, will be diving all over the place.

You would not believe the type of violence refs allow in the Brasileirão or South American qualifiers. Neymar would be able to handle himself in the PL.

Neymar is not joining us anytime soon but, if he did any time we dropped points you guys would pull the knives out on him quicker than you do with Pogba.

So is it a confirmed fact that his release clause is at £173m?

I would rather invest this money to strengthen 3-4 positions in our squad where we have more pressing needs.

Honestly, I think 90% of us would. Neymar is one of the best players in the world but one player can't resolve our problems. If we do spend £200m this summers, we need to make sure that gets us a RB, CB, LB, DM, RW and CF. They don't all need the best player in their respective position...
