Neymar Da Silva

Tim Vickery was on Talkshite earlier and said a few things:

1) Santos will be doing everything to try to keep him there until after the World Cup in 2014.

2) If he did move it wouldn't be for the money, as he's getting paid absolute shitloads in Brazil, and also its likely he'd remain in Brazil for another year on loan.

2) He said it would be very interesting to see if he could manage at Barcelona because many players moving from brazil come over and play at a smaller team first and are never threw completely in at the deep end like Neymar would be. In addition Neymar is ridiculously over protected in the brazilian league, and gets pretty much every decision going for him. He wouldnt get things quite the same way in Europe. Vickery compared it to Robinho (a similarly overprotected player when in brazil) and the strops he would take when he didnt get decisions his way when playing for City.

No one knows South American footy better than Tim and that was spot on about Neymar...I hope he doesn't come over too quick or go to too big a club, I think that's a lot to throw at a kid

I think if he came to a team like United (which won't happen) then Ferguson would be the ideal man to allow him to develop while also taking him out of the spotlight and rest him when necessary. In other words I could see us doing a Ronaldo job on him.

Putting together some local articles and the writing that has been on the wall, the Nike connection & Rosell - well, I fear there may be something to all the rumours after all...I don't like it, don't like it one bit

You don't want him at Barcelona, why?

There's a beautiful harmony in the squad with no egos and no agendas...Neymar is a walking sideshow and I fear Nike has a big role in it, particularly when you consider that Nike has invested heavily in the club while Leo is an Adidas man...They want a Brasilian with Nike emblazoned on them to take the marketing mantle that Ronaldinho once had

Moreover, I'm not anti-Neymar I just think he's overhyped

I fear it would unravel the balance that exists...Character, I want character teammates not cuckoos

And I'm almost certain that Neymar's arrival would usher out Pep as I can't believe he's on board with the player's signing

Their FA won't be able to deal with it as there was a man wearing a Rolling Stones t-shirt in the stadium at the time. The rules couldn't be clearer.

I suppose if that's an acceptable red card there, then it's just us and our arrogant xenophobic attitudes that have a problem with it.

No way the defender could have done that on a cold Wednesday night in Stoke.

We're looking for a striker, arent we?

 Oh no please dont!!!

But seriously, he would cost nothing less than 50 mil pounds and he already one the top 10 highest paid players in the world even though he still plays in Brazil.

Our chance of getting him - 10000000000000000000000000%.

Really? Then he should be standing outside of Carrington by......now!

Stunning. Has Ganso stayed fit enough for a European club to make a big money gamble on him yet, do you think? Would be nice to see him stay with Neymar in Brazil for longer. And nice to see a different Neymar to the arrogant one in the hands on hips clip, selflessly setting up the 5th goal.

Am going to have to watch more South American football, there just never feels like enough time. Will have to watch the Copa Libertadores from the knockout stages.

He's stayed fit enough but I gather he's still not quite at the level he was pre-injury and his showing at the Copa - even if he was one of their better players - will definitely have made those interested very aware that it is definitely a gamble. No doubting he's a special talent though and at some point a big team will come in but I really wouldn't be too surprised to see him stay there until 2014.

Neymar in fairness does that game after game, he's a really effective supporting player as well as a great individual. If he does make it big then he'll certainly be a very effective creator as well as goalscorer. I'm the same, will make an effort to watch the Copa but in doing so I'll be making an effort to watch less European football because there's just not enough time for it all. Great entertainment though.

Porto might try to go for Ganso in the next transfer window. Some rumours pointing in that direction.

The money santos want for Neymar and Ganso is far too much for any European club to risk.

They're talking easily 30m+ for a young player unproven in the european leagues. Very different to taking a 25m punt on Muniain, Martinez, Gotze, Hazard, M'vila etc.

Neymar could be great but is anyone going to spend the money to take him over here? I can see Ganso going for less money but still at least 20m+.

United always source for young talents around the world, Neymar is certainly one. I do think it's worth buying players over there and they make their name in Europe when they come good. We have seen the likes of Kaka, Tevez, Aguero, Pato, Thiago Silva all coming from the South American leagues and becoming superstars here. Though i reckon he will probably snub us if we do put in an offer for him.

Arruda. If we try to sell Ando do you think Porto would be interested?

It's unlikely that a United player is within our wage structure. He would have to accept a serious cut on his wages. Our best paid players are probably at around 30k per week.

Porto is more likely to seek talent in South America and buy players with potential to grow in value, and I'm unsure if Anderson still fits with that description. I think his years at United have ruined him a bit.

I think it's more likely that he moves to another Premiership team or to a wealthy European second-tier team (PSG, Russians).

got a hattrick today v sao paolo

He's gonna go for some serious sponduliks when he eventually comes to Europe.

Has he said he wants to play in England next season?

In all seriousness, this lad could easily go on to become the BPITY! His talent is outrageous. He doesn't seem too pushed about leaving Brazil, though.

Neymar to United is nothing more than a pipe dream, but it will be very interesting to see who comes in for him as it's only a matter of time. He's viewed as a risk due to his physical frailty (actually stronger than he looks, although he does need to get bigger), attitude, and price tag. Still, I think he's going to be a ridiculously good player. He already is really.

The problem is, can Brazil afford Neymar down the line? This team has already had to scrap multiple divisions just for him alone. His buyout clause is extraordinary.

My only concern is he has yet to do any of this against meaningful opposition. He down right sucked against Barca, he has yet to light up Brazil, and while still gaining strength, the Brazilian league is very weak defensively.

He's a stud, but for now, I think he's all tricks without productivity when it counts. As the commentator said today about Lennon "He's dangerous, but not always productive."

Can you elaborate on this a little, as I'm unsure of what you're talking about...

Agreed, but it's not easy to perform against Barca when they dominate possession. He's still young enough to get away with not performing in a game like that. I think he is lighting up Brazil this year, 16 goals (and 3 assists) in 14 games is an excellent return for someone that is as raw as him. I agree with you that the Brazilian league is weak defensively, but you can only play against what's in front of you. Will be very interesting to see how he adjusts to better defences when he does eventually move on.

Think we all know its a pipe dream though WTF, marketing wise what a coup for supposely biggest club in the world. He would once again bring that bit of fantasy to our team, and adding him along with a half decent DM likes of Strootman would take our team up a notch and still leave scope for the likes of Cleverly and Pogba to gain a few games in 1st team next season.
Go on SAF, sell the lad the dream ala Ronaldo, and even suggest he can leave in 3>4yrs for Spain,Italy

That's how I saw Ronny once and look what an amazing player he turned out to be.

Neymar clearly needs SAF in his life to make him the best player possible. :D

People tend to forget he is only 19 years of age. He is terrifyingly talented and rightly reminds me of a young Cristiano Ronaldo. Except at 19 he is already the best player for his national team and has proved it against some decent opposition on the international level.

Obviously there will be sceptics who doubt the quality of the brazilian league and whether he can adapt to Europe. He needs a strong manager that will give him the right tutelage otherwise he could end up as another Robinho.
