Neymar Da Silva

Once a prima donna, always a prima donna. I don't see him making name in Europe at all, I am not saying he will become robinho number 2, but I think he will never be even close to class of Ronaldo(original) or Ronaldinho. IMO he will end up as solid player at most with good dribling, tricks, and that's it.

Perhaps but let's not forget that Ronaldinho came to Europe a year later than Neymar currently is and still ended up partying like a rockstar in Paris that saw him get benched a bit...By the time he ended up at Barcelona (23 y.o.), there were fans who were happy to see him go...He curbed some of that initially at Barcelona but it eventually was his undoing...Some say, at least Barcelona had that sort of genius for a good 4-5 seasons regardless if he did indeed succumb to the rockstar lifestyle by the end

It's a double edged sword because while that last season of Ronnie was painful to endure as a fan, it couldn't erase the euphoria he brought the 4 seasons prior

One of the most memorable débuts in recent years, Rooney's was pretty great as well.

I still have a hard time looking at footage of Ronnie, I'm still licking the wounds from his implosion...Suppose it's greed because I feel cheated that we didn't get to see more of him with Leo

Ronaldinho was bigger talent than neymar is now, and unlike Neymar, he was always likeable character. He enjoyed football more than anything, I don't think he cared too much about publicity as long as he is playing how he wants to.
But enough about Neymar, I am not one of his biggest fans, we'll see what will become of him when he comes to play some serious football.

Until proved otherwise, my opinion is that he will never be something special here.

Well, I wasn't suggesting Ronnie was Neymar in terms of being a problem, just that he too had to adjust to being a professional from his Samba lifestyle...I do think the most glaring difference between the two apart from their position on the pitch etc. is that Ronnie was always about the football and didn't embrace the pretty boy poster hype while Neymar encourages it, it would seem...That may end up being the reason why he'll never become a true European professional, I fear...But as someone else pointed out, he could go the way of CR too which would still work

We'll see, but I don't believe he could go that way too.

United didn't get to see much of the explosive early Rooney either.

We did all right with the later, duller version. And things worked out okay for Barca as well.

Don't get the Neymar hate. He is taking the piss in his home leauge, it is obvious at his age he is going to get cheeky about it.

If he makes the right move soon he will be a brilliant player. Would suit us, and Fergie, to the ground.

Would love him to come to United as the potential there is frightening.

I'm sure we'd all be delighted.

History suggests that Fergie won't gamble big on a young South American player though, and Neymar's preferred destination will be Spain. So, nothing to see here, folks.

What's happening with Neymar then? Is he signing for Barca or what?

This isn't a post suggesting we should be in for him for the record, was just wondering.

Nothing happening with him. He's staying in Brazil for a while. Hopefully this summer will be free of any silly money spending.

Definitely not a foul. Wasn't close. Jumped up when the defender got close. Players gets booked and they score. Not cool.

You're telling me that wasn't a careless tackle? Please. He was trying to get past the defender, the defender stuck a leg out, so he went down and got a free kick. Do you think he'd have got round the defender if he'd stayed up?

The post-foul reaction was a bit unnecessary, but it was definitely a foul, can't blame him for going down.

The defender did go for a bit of a hard tackle but he didn't get even close to touching him. Neymar dived out of the way right when he saw him coming.

Why is that a bad thing? Would it be better if he'd stayed in the way of the tackle and they'd both got hurt?

It's clearly a foul. Neymar had a jump out of the way to avoid being clattered and therefore lost the ball, which means he was fouled. Doesn't excuse him pretending to be hurt of course.

He could have acted like less of a bitch to start with, but yeah I thought it was a foul. Saying that it'd be nice if they both could get yellows for something like that, the defender because he went in with the intent to take him out and Neymar because he so clearly dived and started rolling around like he's been shot. Nothing compared to some of his other dives though.

The guy doesnt even go for the ball, hes just taking his hardest kick he possibly can at Neymars leg. If anything that should be a red card in a way.

Hes lucky he jumped out the way, and im not suprised he reacted the way he did.

People seem to think its absolutely fine to do a stupid tackle like that aslong as he didnt touch him? Yeah sure he went rolling around but thats only to stop people doing stuff like that in the future.

If they actually tried to tackle him properly instead of hacking his leg off they might not get that sort of reaction.

How is it a bloody foul? Neymar just leapt into the air when the guy came near him and started rolling about like a little pussy. Like i've heard though whenever a player goes near him he'll fall over and the ref will brandish cards. Having never properly watched him play a game and just seeing and hearing things I'm starting to grow a huge dislike for this player.

Messi has a huge ego?

Almost as big as Ronaldo's. Interesting cause in the pitch he is a humble guy but I read an article not long ago that he said to Guardiola that he wants to leave when Ibra was playing as CF (not sure if it's reliable or not). Other than it there have been many other things that makes you think that Messi (like Guardiola) in the pitch is humble and a good guy but it's more like a masking. I really think that Messi and Guardiola doesn't differs that much from Ronaldo and Mourinho in terms of ego, only that Messi and Guardiola in the pitch looks always humble while Ronaldo and Mou look like dicks. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I believe that you cannot be one of the best players in the world without having a big ego. And considering that Messi is the best ever player (some disagree with me but that'e entirely another debate) then it's natural for Messi having a huge ego.

In fairness, that was a foul. However, I can imagine it's fecking frustrating to try and play against Neymar because the Brazilian refs treat him like a king. If you even get near him, then it's a yellow card. He's that much of a superstar, I wouldn't be surprised if the Brazilian FA hadn't had a word to make sure he's "well looked after".

This happens in every league with every 'player of the league' - except, of course, Leo :smirk:

Criticism of his manliness and character aside, it's a foul because the defender took a swing at the ball/him, missed and impeded Neymar's progress unfairly.

Swing at him? No. Neymar was always going down. Had he not swung his leg at all he would have been just as close as hitting Neymar and Neymar would have gone down the same way. You can so clearly see his anticipated dive.

So if his foot connected and it took him out of the game you would be happy with just a yellow card and play on?

The guy went into the challenge not looking to win the ball, he wanted to take neymar out the game and hopefully get a touch on the ball too.

He could see him coming into the challenge hard and jumped it before contact was made.

I dont blame him 1 bit for doing what he did. If nani did the same thing when carragher clattered him would you be saying the same thing?

If his foot connected what. If the defender was trying to foul him he wouldn't have missed by that much. You can also see the way he moves his leg that he's trying to get the ball out for a throw in. A kick like that wouldn't hurt at all.

You're massively overreacting. I can't believe you're able to play football if you think that was malicious.

Neymar was never going to get past him at that pace, trying to stop the ball from going out of bounds and keeping it in play whilst getting past his man. That's way to hard of a 90° turn for any man at that speed with a man at your back. If 100% certain that he had his mind on faking a foul that whole time. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Fallacy won't help your point one bit.
