Neymar Da Silva

I am certain Robinho will extol the virtues of Shitty to him. Wastelands it is.

As ridiculous as his price may be, the fact that none of the clubs seemingly 'need' a player like Neymar is what surprises me the most.

Anyone who is genuinely surprised by player values anymore is pretty out of the loop.

I bet fergie's said that a dozen times these past couple of transfer windows.

Quite simply we can't compete in this price range.
We would be stupid to compete in such a price range regardless. You don't pay that much plus, for an unproven player based in South America. You only do that if he is as good as Pele and Maradona at that age.

Why would we though? I'm sure he could potentially be a class talent but he's no where near the finished article yet and certainly not worth £40 million.

Granted these teams are probably buying for his potentialy. How ever to make it in Europe, especially the Premier League, he'll have to work.

Unfortunatly so far, everything about his attitude iv'e seen, has shown that i don't think he would be willing to. I don't think he'll be willing to spend an extra few hours on the training field or down the gym to adapt to the English league.

It's similar case to Ballotelli really, i know Ballotelli is still only 20 and has time to improve and mature. But i would say he's still the same player he was when he first appeared. He's not really improved that much.

The guy at 19, already believes he's the best thing since sliced bread. I wonder what will happen when he comes over and realises that he's not.

What would be interesting is to see how Ballotelli and Neymar work together in a Man City side.

That has to be bullshit. The 5 clubs apparently bid the release fee, so he's free to negotiate with who he wants. All this Venkys shit aside, clubs know what the rules are.
The release fee is 40.5m. In Brazil the release fee doesn't mean you just get the player. It means you can talk with him. 40 plus million for that kid makes no sense frankly.

...
Anyone who is genuinely surprised ...
Personally I'm not surprised. I'm just shaking my head in disbelief. If the lad goes for such a fee the weight of it could ruin his career before it even gets going. I mean, as talented as he is, he hasn't achieved that much in his career thus far to be this overly priced. & such a fee will make who ever gets him want him to hit the ground running.

It is great news for his club at least.

People suprised at these sort of fees still need to take a lesson in free market economics.

Clubs revenues have being growing in the last few years and the price for player transfers has naturally increased too.

A good midfielder will cost us around 40m. I hope we feckin pay it!

Or people have to realise that the pound's value against the euro has depreciated, hence european transfer fees look inflated when they're actually not. A few years back, 45m euros was £30m pounds, today it's £40m.

Frankly, it doesn't make sense to spend so much on a young player from a continent in contrast to your own. It doesn't take a long time to fall by the wayside moving to European football. With the money involved, you are gambling here despite best efforts to support him.
Its no surprise, teams like us have tie-ups with clubs in South America to pick-up their best players. It works out a lot cheaper and has better chance of value than a 1 time spend that is likely to leave you with a big hole in the pocket.

Another good point!

Neymar has chosen Real Madrid and rejected all other offers. It is not a surprise.

Neymar 'chooses Real Madrid over Barcelona and Chelsea' - ESPN Soccernet

Neymar is said to have chosen to join Real Madrid ahead of Chelsea and Barcelona but Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro remains hopeful of retaining the player until at least 2012.

Ribeiro revealed this week that five clubs - said to be Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Anzhi Makhachkala - had agreed to meet Neymar's €45 million release clause but said he was confident Neymar would stay on.

Ribeiro has now suggested that Inter Milan may be among the clubs showing an interest in Neymar, but it appears the player has decided on a move to the Bernabeu. Marca claims the 19-year-old has told Brazil team-mate Dani Alves at the Copa America: "I don't know anything about Barcelona. I will play for Madrid next season."

Ribeiro, though, still believes Neymar will stay put until the conclusion of December's Club World Cup tournament in Japan and told RAC1: "Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan - all the big clubs are interested in Neymar because he is an exceptional player, but my intention is that he will stay with us at least until we meet Barcelona in the final.

"We don't want to lose him until the centenary [Santos were founded in April 1912] but it all depends on him, on what he wants to do. Remember that there is a release clause in his contract."

He added: "It's obvious given all the interest that the release clause is small in comparison to the player's true value."

Ribiero confirmed he has held conversations with both Barca president Sandro Rosell and Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez.

"I asked Sandro not to make contact with Neymar or his father before the Copa Libertadores final, but then I had to tell him to make his move because the other European clubs were already moving," he said. "Sandro is a gentleman, very friendly, a great professional and a great president.

"I spoke to Florentino directly and Real Madrid expressed an interest in the player. That's public."

Santos coach Muricy Ramalho had earlier said that Neymar would be making a mistake if he were to play under Jose Mourinho.

"He's a top star, a player who can improvise," Ramalho said. "You never know what he's going to do - he's unpredictable. Mourinho, though, is very tactics-based - focusing on not letting opponents play and closing the space. I have doubts about how well it would work out with Real Madrid."

He added: "Imagine Messi and Neymar together..."

Where in that article does it say he has chosen Real?

Marca claims the 19-year-old has told Brazil team-mate Dani Alves at the Copa America: "I don't know anything about Barcelona. I will play for Madrid next season."

Although I wouldn't trust that one..

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira insists the club will shun any big-money offer from Europe for Brazil international Neymar.

Despite stating earlier in the week that five clubs had indicated they were willing to match the player's release clause, De Oliveira has now changed tack and claims the 19-year-old will stay regardless and spearhead their challenge in December's FIFA Club World Cup.

In a statement, he said: "In light of continuous speculation in the national and international press about the future of our player, I feel obliged to communicate the departure of Neymar is non-negotiable.

"Neymar is a media phenomenon known throughout the world. His talent for brilliant moves on the field is proportional to his charisma." Oliveira made a personal promise to the Santos fans that their star man will not be leaving the Copa Libertadores champions.

He said: "The fans love Neymar, not only how he plays, but for his human qualities. That love is shared by millions of other Brazilians who admire him regardless of the club to which he belongs.

"In any case, the response of Santos is that we are not yet considering any offer for his transfer. Neymar will return to Santos [after the Copa America] and we will make efforts to retain and keep him happy for many years."

We'll see.

That makes perfect sense.. Neymar and Ganso are both planning to stay on till the end of the calendar year to take on Barcelona in World Club Cup and then move on.. Ganso was talking about AC Milan like it was a done deal and Seems like Neymar will head to Real Madrid.. I may be wrong about this.. But this is what I have gauged from the current information at hand..

Yes, like Santos are going to give up on £30m+ so he can honor his deal.

In the last three days hasn't the club gone from saying

a) Yeah we've had a bunch of clubs meet his buyout clause, he can speak to whoever and we're happy for him to go like this because everything has been done properly
b) Yeah we told them all to get bent, Neymar is going no where
c) He'll be here for years!

Have you read anything that has been written? Either in that article or any other posts?

I might have misunderstood the article about him willing to homour his contract to be fair.

Much like when Udinese said they'd agreed fees for Sanchez, I knew it was bollocks when Santos said 5 clubs had agrees to meet Neymar's buy-out clause. It's a really strange negotiation tactic though, I can only assume that by not naming specific clubs, they hoped that everyone would be fooled into bidding for him.

So all the supposed bids from the top money clubs was just fabricated?!! Jeezz some clubs are pathetic.

SAO PAULO (AP) -The agent for Neymar says he has received offers from Barcelona and Real Madrid for the young Brazil striker.

Wagner Ribeiro says any decision on Neymar maybe moving from Santos to Europe lies solely with the 19-year-old sensation.

The agent would not offer details of the offers from the Spanish clubs.

Both clubs, along with Chelsea and Manchester City, are reportedly willing to pay the ?45 million ($64 million) buyout clause in Neymar's contract.

Neymar's agent says the player who helped lead Santos to the Copa Libertadores title wants to play for the Brazilian club at the FIFA Club World Cup in December.

Ribeiro says Barcelona is willing to wait for Neymar, but that Real Madrid wanted him "yesterday.''

Barca 'offer to sign Neymar in January'

Barcelona have made an offer to sign Neymar after the Club World Cup, ESPNsoccernet understands.

Real Madrid have, as has been established, already agreed to meet the €45 million buy-out clause for the player and are keen to complete a deal this summer, but there have been indications from Santos that the player wants to stay on until after December's Club World Cup tournament in Japan.

Barca have therefore said that they will wait until January before signing the Brazil international in a bid to beat Madrid to the deal.

A source close to the transfer told ESPNsoccernet:"Real Madrid have a deal in place, but Barcelona are trying to stop it going through this summer, and have put forward their own deal.

"Both clubs have agreed to meet the buy-out clause of €45 million, and while Real will go through with the transfer, there is a suspicion that Barcelona don't have that kind of ready funds and are just trying to stall the move to Real.

It had been widely reported in Brazil that Chelsea were among the clubs to have agreed to meet Neymar's release clause, but it appears that is not the case.

"They have said they won't pay," the source added. "They will not spend that kind of money on a teenager who has not been tried in the Premier League."

Neymar's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has now confirmed that the player wants to join "the club of his dreams".

"The preference of the child [Neymar] at the moment is Real Madrid," he said. "We're not talking about the economic side - for that matter there is no problem.

"We have to do the best for the boy, so you can make two dreams: the first being a world champion with Santos and make history, and the second dream is go to Real Madrid."

German media reporting that Real have had a bid accepted (45m Euros) and are starting negotiations with Neymar after the Copa.

My Brazilian source (Flavio the painter) told me this evening that Neymars girlfriend had their 1st baby recently & that will be the reason why he'll stay another season with Santos.
