Not too sure if that is what he said. Difference between a top target and the top target, right?
Not when hes named ETH and Poch before singling out Poch to be a top target in the next season.

He is saying Poch is the top one out of the two according to sources, the way Ive read it.

«Rangnick was the No 1 choice for an interim appointment but Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher still spoke to others, including Ernesto Valverde, Rudi Garcia and Lucien Favre. At least one impressed more than expected. But none of those are thought to be in contention this time. That was a tailored situation and United now want a younger manager to guide the club for several years.

Multiple sources close to the club see Pochettino as a top target. Sir Alex Ferguson has a long-held admiration for the Argentine, having enjoyed a lunch with him at Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair in 2016, and the view of United’s former manager has been sought. It is not believed Ferguson will offer anything more than a light touch, however.»

I really dont read it that way. And tbh I dont get the impression that he has any idea who the top target is.

It's probably fine margins either way lets see I guess.

I hope Rangnick is listened to more than anyone else. The last 10 years have proven the incumbents can't be trusted with valuable decision making.

Just hope Ten Hag or whoever will be allowed to build their own squad. If a massive clearance is needed then let him do it ….and back him.

Nobody from the current Utd squad is irreplaceable.

PSG have made an effort to publicly back Poch and make it clear that he's theres over the last month

Not sure why they'd let him go if they make a deep CL run the way it looks like they will.

They're also a very PR focused club and the optics of having their manager poached by either us or Madrid would likely be hard to swallow on top of losing their golden egg in Mbappe this summer.

You mean to say our club's future now depends on whether PSG actually acts like a big club and holds onto their manager or not? Funny time to be alive, indeed.

It would be typical of United to finally stumble upon the right option for entirely the wrong reasons.

If we get Ten Hag, happy days, but I don't understand why there's such reticence to release a manager from their contract if the club believe they're the right man. It's been the same since Ferguson retired.

Not sure on the legals about managers to be fair. Can United just release Poch if they wanted him?

I dont think its common, or at least not really happened before between big clubs?

I remember him being labelled as rather sensationalist

He might be tier 1 and I can easily believe this, but I have no confidence in the club actually listening to Ralf. The club for some mystifying reason seems to have a colossal hardon for Poch, and he'll be their number one target. Our best hope is if PSG play hardball or if Madrid snatch him away. I'm praying either of those things happen.

Rangnick said in the pre-match conference yesterday that the club didn't speak to him or consult him about permanent manager appointment. Rangnick said his sole focus is on the team to get Top 4 and CL.

I'm sure the club could agree a compensation package with PSG if they were determined enough. Not that I want it to happen.

It is truly baffling.
Clubs will pay 50-80m for a single player, yet won't pay way way less for a manager who is by far the most important piece of the picture.

it's not just one man though

the club have been modernising the structure for a couple of years now, and have shown a willingness to give power on footballing decisions to football people for a change

the situation has changed drastically from our last few appointments, most notably with Woody gone but in other ways too (such as a DoF, and also giving Rangnick an advisory role)

chances are if we approached someone like ETH at the same time Jose took over with Woody meddling in the background, he'd have turned us down (like Klopp reportedly did at one point)

Yeah will always be adamant that wally cost us Klopp which is unforgivable in my eyes

I’ll be quite excited if we get Ten Hag, especially if Rangnick is staying on as a sort of DOF (not sure what his role will be). Less of the marquee name signings, great style of play and finally some sort of structure. I’m quite skeptical of the club making any rational and sensible decisions though.

So our priority target is a manager who seems to prefer Real Madrid and Tottenham over Manchester United? Makes sense.

Reading the odd comment. Since when did clubs base their hiring decisions on what the fans want? I've heard and read people coming out with this recently, like it's actually a thing, and it has honestly got me puzzled because I don't recall this being the case before.

I know we all have our preferences and are able to discuss them. But why would the club weigh that into their decision?
Both Jose and Ole were populist appointments. Ed Woodward would have borne fan opinion in mind following the perceived mistakes of Moyes (small time) and LvG (not United DNA).

That was then and this is now though. Let’s hope things have actually changed…

There's no point getting all giddy over these daily stories rife with unsubstantiated and often contradictory claims from journos no matter the credibility level. The hope will kill you

I highly doubt the stories about Fergie wanting Ancelotti.

The stories probably stem from the fact that Ferguson and Ancelloti are very close friends. There were similar rumors about Ferguson wanting to be replaced by Ancelloti after his retirement in 2013. It's rumored they had a conversation about it but Ancelloti didn't make himself available.

Its sounds like Richard Arnold has been doing his due diligence over a range of managers. Younger and promising ie. ETH, proven i.e Poch to experienced winners i.e Ancelotti.

Nothing wrong with his approach, however if you were to follow the logic from the appointment of RR, then we would need a younger up and coming manager to implement that long term strategy that RR will work on when he moves upstairs.

Anyway Arnold wont want to get this appointment wrong, so i wouldnt be suprised if we were linked to more managers while due diligence is being done.

Does feel that Arnold is at least doing that unlike the Toy Story puppet who said he was when Ole got it on an interim basis

Could also be a double bluff to get top dollar out of Utd for his release

Likely already had assurances from Madrid about taking over from Mourinho. Can't say it didn't wind up well for him seeing as he delivered them La Decima the next season

It has. Woodwards gone.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-next-manager-ancelotti-26368010

Back in 2013 United made moves to recruit Ancelotti - a three time Champions League winner - when they found out Ferguson would be retiring.

Ancelotti was then at PSG but was in discussions with Real Madrid and felt that it was only right he followed through on their interest.

“You want to know from me [about coaching at Man Utd]?!“ said the 62-year-old in the past.

"I can say that I still keep a fantastic relationship with Sir Alex, and we met when he decided to stop (retire).

"But I was close to Real Madrid, and so I appreciate the fact that at that time he talked to me. And that’s it, no other opportunity [to manage United]."
