Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

Not sure about the pool depth for the first, are you planning to field Micronesians? The second just sounds wrong on a Manchester United forum. The 5th will get too obscure unless you play 8 teams, but then it wouldn't draw out gems. The fourth will be chaos given player names aren't always standardised, e.g. some will go Ji Sung Park, others Park Ji Sung and so on. Pelé or Edson Arantes or Edson Arantes do Nascimento? I really like the the third, in the harder version.

They were just ideas I saw in a different forum and I rossi'd them over here. They're a different style than the usual...although they'd probably need extensive tweaking to make them viable to keep people's interest...or make them feasible.

The third was my favorite too.

I would be wary of anything too peak based, we know full well the average voter doesn't really process that. Not even managers. Sometimes great cases are made (e.g. Adriano) but they only really work in early rounds, come the finals all that lip service goes out of the window and he is out of his depth.

I thought the euro championship worked well with that only as the peak. I agree that it would need to be constantly drilled into people's heads so they they at least try to comprehend it....before ignoring it anyway and voting.

Like i wrote on the last page, i'm in pending theme. Cal? just search sheep draft and have a lookie.

How does a sheep draft work? I'm interested...
Everyone submits their choice of player to the mod. If only 1 manager chooses player A, he gets player A. If more than 1 manager chooses player B, player B will be removed from play and no one gets the player. Each manager has 3 tries, and if failed by the end of 3 tries, a sheep will be assigned

Sounds cool, will there be some kind of criteria per seletion? or just random drafting?

Different criteria each round based on the theme.

I know, I recognise some of the formats, as I do the third one which always intrigued me. Could be a really interesting and fun one to research and find quirky connections, like that time sheep draft one where you had to find someone who had played outside Europe/South America and while some got Grobelaar others got Rivaldo

Tourno peaks are easier to handle because they are high profile occasions. There's absolutely no way I would ever find Adebayor convincing in any side, however good a one off season he may have had.

I'd be interested if there's space. I was in one once in the newbies but would be a main board virgin.

Oooh if its your first one in the mains, there's an application process to apply to be part of the Main's Draft Managers Association.

Did you get the questionnaire already?

Nothing wrong with ol' wobbly knees in goal

Fair point Mr. Antohan Johannson....but it would be fun to see someone trying to sell him :D

Not yet but I've started an intensive training program of obscure research and arguing with people at the bus stop in preparation.

@Aldo had one in mind I think?
Mine was a straight forward old school snake draft involving all players born in the 40s. We had a whole series back then with the 50s, 60s and 70s decades covered in similar drafts e.g.
https://www.redcafe.net/threads/50s-retro-football-fantasy-draft.356200/

I don't know how much interest would be there as people now are looking for variations and stuff. I personally loved all those specially 50s and 60s ones - you stretch that pool in 16 managers and some real gems are uncovered with some nice insightful discussions.

I can run it in a few days possibly, but I can't confirm at the moment. If someone else has got his ready to go then by all means go ahead.

I suggest a 14-15 draft, based only on 14-15 performances. we can add one player from each country too. It's time to play some current players.

Current Ideas floating around

Aldo's 40's snake draft
Premier League Draft
Teammate Draft
14-15 performances only draft

That should give us a good starting point if people want to start deciding.

I've listed them in my preferred order :)

Read through that one...looks good. Although I've been a fan of the older ones, don't think everyone else these days is

Would prefer a current draft either a PL draft or 2010 onwards draft...

I suggest a everyone born after 1992 or some other arbitrary time line

Im in for whatever.. feels like I was watching eric cantonas fa cup winner vs liverpool since last one

I'd be up for a 40s one whenever that suits, but there seems to be appetite for a 14/15 Premier League one in the meantime.

I had an idea almost opposite to teammate draft where you can not have any player in your teM that has played alongside another player for club or country

For current players only it'd be interesting, for all-time it'd be quite easy.

To be honest, while I prefer the 40s and teammate draft ideas, I think after an all-time one you have to give oldies a rest and do a more recent and less GOATy draft. Keeps the player pool fresh. Current or PL sounds best in that sense.

The other one is more structured for research purposes and makes first round picks huge in their impact in the following rounds. While otherwise you take someone like Eusebio knowing that at worst you've given up on Coluna.

Other ideas:
3) Teammate Draft: You picked Messi. The next player you drafted must be a player he played with on a club team. We can make it harder that no three straight player can be on the same player. Pick 1: Messi Pick 2: Luis Suarez Pick 3: the player cannot play with Messi. He only played with Luis Suarez,

um, uhm... I demand copyright payment!

What do you guys think of a Chain draft?

1st pick is open.
2nd pick can only be a player who has played with 1st pick.
3rd pick will be a player who has played with the 2nd pick and so on.

With a 3 players/nation limit, this should be interesting.

But then I agree with anto above. Current/PL draft should be the next one. Who's up to run that?
