If they call it the Kop I will be very surprised. Will the anthem be YAWN as well? (joke)Single Thier stand
The only takeaway I got from this is me wanting a Chinese and the word “Kop”What is meant by 'kop'?
Liverpool is called Spion Kop.I wonder how many on here actually know the significance of the "Kop"
Preston North End had a Spion Kop too, quite a few grounds did.Liverpool is called Spion Kop.
it was named after a famous hill in South Africa where a local regiment had suffered heavy losses during the Boer War in 1900. More than 300 men had died, many of them from Liverpool, as the British army attempted to capture the strategic hilltop.

Stadium consultation at Trafford Town Hall
Ah couldn't make it in the end so didn't realise - where in the stadium did they do it ?A stadium consultation "town hall" event at Old Trafford (the stadium), but I was equally confused until I got the ticket.

Was it the boer war British v Dutch farmers. Battle of Spion Kop if my memory from school serves me.I wonder how many on here actually know the significance of the "Kop"
Dang, I had no clue about the source of the name. That's really cool: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Spion_KopWas it the boer war British v Dutch farmers. Battle of Spion Kop if my memory from school serves me.
It was a steep hill and when they built the steep stands at some football grounds they got nicknamed the Kop.

Interesting finding that.
Corrected it for youAlso that season ticket holders are more likely to want a new stadium.
Think it shows that a lot of nostalgia is from those whodon't regularly go to gameshave only seen games on TV
Why can't they do 100k with a rebuild?
The survey results were a bit surprising but maybe not that much - I expected quite a split with a slight preference towards refurb
anecdotally most matchgoers that I know were open to either option with a few strongly against a new build
The 1958 think the survey was rigged or asked the wrong questions or something so are doing their own which all seems a bit pointless
I doubt it was rigged but it was probably worded to make the result they wanted more likely.
But at the end of the day it's simply a PR exercise. Ultimately they'll do what they want regardless of the result of a survey.

They’ve been gifted yawn by the media and they’re working on gifting them sole rights to “the reds” but they don’t have exclusivity on the “kop” yet. Media still working on this to make them unique. If they call it the Kop I will be very surprised. Will the anthem be YAWN as well? (joke)

That's not what I meant. Actually, I saw images on the wiki site that I can't unsee and that's not good. I never thought about the origin of the use of the word kop for a section of stands and the fact that it has these historic origins is cool. It also exposes a massive gaping hole in our U.S. education system in that we were not taught anything about the Boer War (or any wars in Africa).Hold on, the Boer War was really cool?
I don't know how it works now, I haven't been to OT for quite a few years now, when I first went you queued up and took your chances unless you had a ST or LMTB, and collected tokens from the programme to get tickets for big cup matches!I think you needed a membership number or ticket number to go right?
Laughing at the 1958, didn't like the result so crying foul..
The US wasn't involved so no need for it to be covered, but one would hope they do cover at least one war in Africa given the US involvement there in WW2!That's not what I meant. I am sure the war of 1812 is covered, at least in Maryland. Honestly, WWII education in public school was sorely lacking as well. I learned more from the movies The Longest Day and Patton than I ever did in school (though that may speak to my lack of academic prowess more than anything). The US wasn't involved so no need for it to be covered, but one would hope they do cover at least one war in Africa given the US involvement there in WW2!
Is the war of 1812 covered or do they keep quiet about that one?
My biggest history project at school (in UK) was the centenary of my primary (elementary) school in 1972, so did we study the local history of a Lancashire milltown, nope, the American Civil War!I am sure the war of 1812 is covered, at least in Maryland. Anyway, back on topic, whatever they do with the stadium, let's hope there is some kop-like structure for the supporters.
