Nemanja Vidic - Thanks for it all

:devil::devil:

Great defender at his peak, bought for relatively peanuts. Hope he has a decent few years at Inter and enjoys himself.

Is he really a legend though?

Of course he is, heplayed an integral role in one of the best sides Manchester United ever assembled. He was also part of the best defence in premier league history that went 1,311 minutes without conceding a single goal in the league. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest defenders the club has ever had. Definite legend.

Is he really a legend though?

His medals, amount of appearances and captaincy make him an iconic United player yes.

I rate him well higher than Rio but I know some disagree about that.

Is he really a legend though?

 Without a shadow of doubt!

If one of our best defenders ever who has spent almost a decade with us and has been a rock during one of our most successful periods isn't a legend, who is it then?

Absolutely class. What a player. There were games when anything around the box he was there to snuff out.

The reception he got yesterday was top notch as well. Fans love him. Even the Thailand kids in front of me who didn't seem to know much of anything were saying he's one of their favorites.

I have to admit I teared up at the end of the match yesterday. Thank you Vida for everything, one of the greatest ever CBs to put on a United shirt, an absolute legend.

Is he really a legend though?

I'd like to hear the reasons why he wouldn't be.

At the club for 8 years
Captain for 4 years
5 Premier League titles
1 Champions League title

So long Vida :(

Always saw the arrival of Vidic as a bit of a turning point for us. Sure, he took a little while to settle but once he did he was immense, and we finally had a great partner for Rio to build a solid base for the team. Another genius buy by SAF.

Brilliant defender and a great character to have around the place. One of my favourite players of this amazing era.

I've never been a Juve fan but hoping they do well next season now.
It definitely was. Prior to his arrival, our defence was always prone to being pushed around and there was definitely a feeling share by many (rightfully so) that we needed a proper no nonsense defender.

I remember being encouraged by his debut/first few appearances despite him getting heavily criticized for it. I saw the sloppyness in them as well, but I saw a lot of potential in the way he attacked the ball and imposed himself on situations.

Just like Stam, his song will keep on being chanted.

Some heroics in that red shirt of ours, and then some.

Best of luck Nemanja

Enjoy Inter as your swansong Vida. You are a United legend.

Mate watching again makes me so fecking emotional.

If there is ever a reason to buy a season ticket in the stretford end it's for moments like that. Can't beat it.

Was watching it on MUTV - came across loud as. Cracking support, then again shouldn't expect anything less from a United captain standing for one last time at the stretford end.

i never rated Vidic as high some of the others on here do but absolutely loved him playing for us.

Him and Rio in their prime were a sight to behold, incredible defensive partnership, Vidic is one tough and so and so but I think he's bowed out of the league just about at the right time. What a truly sparkling United career. I hope we play against Inter in a year or two once we've got our shit sorted out, he'd get a great reception at OT.

One of the best centre backs to have played in England and one of our best defenders of all time. Such a rock in the centre of our defense and so strong in the air. Such a fearless player, he used to throw himself at the ball. He formed a great partnership with Rio, and with VDS in goal we had great success while they were at United.

Fergie's best transfer in defense imo. Bought him from Spartak for a low fee and got 9 years of service. He played a crucial role in winning us 5 Premiership titles and getting us to 3 CL finals. He leaves us now as our club captain and legend!

Always sad to see a great player leave but all the same massive thanks for all he did in the red shirt ...

Lets hope no more quality players leave, the last thing we need is an exodus when the future hangs in the balance

Remember when he and Rio were by far the best defensive partnership in Europe? I recall one match in the 08-09 season, where the other team just kept on launching ball after ball into the box, and this bastard got to every one.

He will be missed.

Proper Old School defensive powerhouse. He's been sticking his body on the line for this club for the last 8 years. An absolute beast of a defender and most certainly a legend. I wish him well in Italy. Cheers Nemanja.

Legendary defender. For a long while my favourite player. His impact at Man United cannot be underestimated.

I've said it before but the biggest compliment you can pay him is that he was the captain of Manchester United - only the second foreign captain ever. For a Serbian to have that impact on a club like United is phenomenal.

At his best, he was the best around. A colossal, one man defence. Capable against the best of players, or repelling an aerial bombardment at Bolton time and time again.

http://vimeo.com/user3527552/videos - Some videos I capped back in the day because Youtube wouldn't let me.

And yes, I'll still be around the Caf' guys.

08-09 was his best season. Over 10 goals, was the only outfield player to play 1400+ minutes that we kept a clean sheet in. Other teams barely had a shot to test Van Der Sar and that was mostly down to Vidic. He should've won PFA player of the year, but that Liverpool game cost him.

That winner in the final few seconds against Sunderland was one of my favourite moments at Old Trafford. Wasn't a great game but that made the goal even sweeter when it eventually came.

Absolute beast. Better than Rio for me, more of a leader and he could prove decisive at either end. How many times did he put in a crunching tackle and completely turn the game on its head. Underrated on the ball as well in his prime, I've always felt more comfortable with him in possession rather than Ferdinand. Also Rio wasn't capable of moments like this:

An absolute monster. The way he dominated games physically is very rare to see. Its certainly coming to an end of an era as far as we are concerned.

Scholesy gone. Now Vida and Giggsy gone. Evra and Rio soon to follow, ditto with Fletch.

Its sad :(

Apart from his brilliant partnership with Rio I'll always remember Vida for his goals, mostly those against Benfica to spark the comeback, Everton away (0:1) and last minute winner against Sunderland.

Thanks for everything, you were rock in our defense and player that United always could rely on to give his 120%.

Being captain of Mancherster United is something special and he was well deserved captain over the years.

It'll take some time to replace him, sad to see him go, but wish him all the best in Milan.

Now if he would only influence Kovacic to trade clubs... :D

Fantastic servant for us. Will miss him next season. It's going to be strange not having him around next season.

Best defender I've personally seen at our club. All the best Nemanja.

Has anyone seen a really good compilation of Vidic? I have checked on YouTube but it looks like no one has made one yet in the quality of some of our other players (Scholes, Giggs etc have excellent ones)

I've said it before but the biggest compliment you can pay him is that he was the captain of Manchester United - only the second foreign captain ever.
Carey, Cantwell, Cantona, Keane. So fifth.

Really didn't deserve the stick some of our "fans" gave him this season, stuff like he should be stripped of the captaincy and put in the reserves etc.

Shows more heart than the rest of them put together.
