After selling Jaap Stam for many years it was almost impossible to find that type of defensive monster.
They guy was a real bull but also precise tackler. His headers were just effective as Steve Bruce's. So many good goals after corners, free kicks and crosses.
Five Premier League medals and countless other trophies. Not many players now who can eventually take his place...

Formed one half of the best center back pairing I've ever seen. Brilliant servant and has well and truly earned his Legend status. Any news on a testimonial for him?
When he was at his best, he was a one man back four. And at times, he truly was, he would make 4 or 5 tackles across the backline in the space of 30 seconds.
A mountain of a player and quite rightly regarded as a legend amongst fans.
Really gonna miss this guy. I don't think we realise just how badly he'll be missed until we start next year. Not just a great player but a great leader.

Probably my favourite player in the team. He was never one to just sit back and watch bullshit. He protected his players, intimidated other teams and he was a damn respectable person as well as a player. He was so dedicated when he went out onto the pitch and its been a real honour to watch him play for us throughout the years. Really sad to see him go but thats football, you have to move on in life. I really hate changes!

Gutted to see him go but if he wants a change at this stage of his career then no one can begrudge him that. Fantastic leader and a vitally important player for us over the years, he will certainly be remembered as one of our greatest ever defenders. I wish him the best and really do hope our other defenders step up next season cos we really will miss him.

I'm really going to miss this fella. I'm about 6 beers deep tonight and depressed as feck that he's leaving. One of the toughest footballers I've ever seen, and one of those rare few who I felt would rather cripple himself than allow our club to lose.
Favorite Vidic moment: Vidic said in an interview he'd like to score important goals for us. 2 days later, we were 1-0 down at home to Benfica in a must win game, and Vidic scored a bullet header from a Giggs freekick and we went to win 3-1

I'll always remember him as a colossus of a defender. He truly held that backline by example and his sheer force of will at times. After a dodgy start he just grew into that shirt and became one of the most dependable players i've seen at the club. It was a privilege to see him at the top of his game for all those years. Our success was built on men like that.

You could never call him a perfect defender as he definitely had his nasty side as well. He simply refused to let players get past him, by any means necessary! But a little bit of the dark side is what made him a great.

pity he is gone. still has 3 more years in him surely.
Always saw the arrival of Vidic as a bit of a turning point for us. Sure, he took a little while to settle but once he did he was immense, and we finally had a great partner for Rio to build a solid base for the team. Another genius buy by SAF.

Won't forget him heading out ball after ball after ball in matches. His heading skills were equivalent to 2 defenders and the goal keeper. Probably the best United defender I've seen - on par with Rio and Jaap.
A big loss for sure but it was such a great pleasure watching him become one of the greats for United.
