I believe 36% is Harden's CAREER average, so while it was not a great outing for Steph it wasn't terrible especially on a night where Klay was 2-16 from the field. In addition, he missed his last 4 shots so for the first three quarters he was at 50%. The Blazers shut him down in the 4th - credit where credit is due. As to padding stats, this is a guy that invariably doesn't play in the 4th quarter if the team is in front so that is not a fair criticism to make either. The best example I can give is the consecutive 3 point steak that Steph had going over a 2 year period. He had 157 games with a made three pointer, but in the game where the streak was finally broken the Dubs were down by a bunch so he came out of the game with over 4 minutes to go. The game was lost so the streak didn't matter.
I have no problem with Harden trying to score. The problem I have is that he is being lauded for a streak that he (and his team mates to be fair) seems to be keeping going at what sometimes appears to be the good of the team. If the Rockets were winning every game I'd be cheering along with the rest but last night he took 34 shots for his 42 points. As a comparison, the Wolves top 2 scorers (KAT and Jeff Teague) took 34 shots between them but scored 52 points. It's great if one man can do it all, but IMLTHO you've got to win for it to mean anything. I said the same thing a couple of years ago with Russell Westbrook's triple double streak. On the surface it's spectacular but they only won 46 games for the season. I believe what he's doing this year is a lot more impressive because OKC is winning. He appears to have taken a step back, stopped shooting so many ridiculous shots and the team is benefitting.
To be fair, it's not the Warriors people are giving a hard time to, but if you can't take it you shoudn't dish it out.
Please! I give shit, I expect shit. It's part of the game.
