Good man Damien.

If he can play both left and right back then it sounds like a good move to me. He's looked handy when I've saw him, is young and English. And for £2-3mil he's a decent price too.

I'm of the same thought.

Reactions by Palace fans to the news: http://cpfc.org/forums/showpost.php?p=10190276&postcount=1069

The £2-3m price quoted sounds like it wouldn't be from a tribunal but from what the two clubs agreed with each other (if this is true). Still a decent price for someone of his ability.

 Palace fans there calling the Da Silvas shit

I sort of hope he goes to Wigan after reading that.

Why would what opposition fans think affect your view of potential signings? If we agreed a deal for, say, Eden Hazard, and Lille fans said Young was a bit shit, would you rather Hazard ended up at a lesser club like Liverpool?

I had the misfortune of reading a thread on the United forums about the subject, and there they were saying that Rafael has been terrible. I don't know why so many other teams (and some of our own 'fans') think that they've been shit - Rafael in particular as he has been one of the best right backs in league when fit and playing and after his return from injury has stepped up his defending another notch.

This lad would improve our side to the extent that Hazard would, then?

It just made me chuckle how terrified they are of being Wigan's feeder club, and I'm fairly comfortable with our long term full back options. No more or less. Wasn't being completely serious at the time.

It's a little bizarre, he's improved orders of magnitude in the defending stakes and will become a big attacking threat as he matures.

I wasn't being serious either, which is why I mentioned Liverpool.

Apologies, I saw someone mentioning Liverpool as a lesser club to be perfectly normal and straight-faced

One of my mates is a big poster on cpfc- they are still massively bitter about the Cantona episode and the unfortunate consequences later with the fan violence.

He is also bitter that Victor Moses went to Wigan rather than someone better. They have a fantastic youth system and are resigned to losing a few but would prefer them them succeed rather than rot on the DW benches. Kline and Zaha are their big hopes.

Yep and him and Valencia have worked well together. In past games him and Nani have too.

I think he already is a decent attacking threat. Just needs to improve some of his decision making like against Wolves where he tried to cross with too much power rather than shoot, but that will come with time.

This was my favourite:
I agree, problem is that other than Nani they look short on the right wing too. If they come in for Wilf in the summer with a proper fee then I dont think we could resist, and Fergie already knows what he is capable of.

1. Other than Nani? So Nani's not enough? High standards at Selhurst Park... 2. Hello, Tony V?

And something quite close to all posts stated a (programmatic) hatred of United. Either "I hate manure keep your filthy hands off" or "I hate manure but it's an honour if one of our players go there". Childish, petty and very complimentary.

fecking hell, they are making out hes the greatest RB the league has ever seen on there.

Couple of instances in that video of him playing on the left, which would back up the discussion that he has played left side before and says he feels comfortable on either side, which is a plus point in my opinion.

Outside the really big clubs, there aren't many better than Southampton and Palace in terms of youth system.

Other than that YouTube clip, I have not seen this guy play. He did not look particularly quick in that clip, any comments from those of you that have been monitoring him?

Solid defender and very good in one on one situations.
Needs to improve the attacking side of his game but this season that has been getting better.
Quick and determined and better discipline that Rafael.
Still feel Rafael has liability potential but Clyne seems to have a better temperament.
Apparently SAF didn't think at one point that he was good enough going forward so slight surprise this has gone through.
For peanuts, gamble worth taking because if attacking side of his game improves will be a steal because he is a good defender.
Saw him play out of position at left-back on his U21 debut and he was the best player on the pitch!

Looks like a decent pickup for the money. If he fulfills the potential he has shown at Palace, then it could be a steal.

The Smalling/Jones experiment at RB, while relatively successful and good for developing those players skills at different positions, RB is not their primary position. Competition for the FB positions will be good for Rafael and Fabio.

Are there any up and coming RB's in the youth team that this move blocks? I know De Laet has made some comments about wanting to come back but is there anyone else?

De Laet has no chance anyway but he should still have a decent career in the league or the league below. Pretty good considering he was a Stoke reserve when we bought him.

His contract runs out in the summer.

He was linked with Aston Villa in the papers today.

“Regular football at first-team level is invaluable and although it might not have been the best thing for me personally to play for three different clubs in one season, it worked out really well in the end,” he said. “If I can gain some experience and play as many games as I can in the Premier League this season then I can go back and give it a good go at getting in the first team. If all goes well for me with Norwich, then it will be up to me to prove to Sir Alex Ferguson that I am good enough to wear the United shirt. But for now I just need to concentrate on doing well for Norwich. I have still got another year left on my contract after this season, so I have got until the summer of 2013 to prove myself at United. It is all in my own hands really because if I do well for Norwich this season it might trigger a new contract for me back at United. But if not I will still have the last year of my contract to show what I am capable of there.”

Mancini ready to irk Fergie again by moving for Palace defender Clyne

Roberto Mancini will go head to head with Sir Alex Ferguson to sign England Under 21 defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Manchester United have expressed firm interest in the highly-rated Crystal Palace right back but their city rivals are preparing a move of their own.

The Etihad Stadium club have watched Clyne, 20, closely over the last few months and continue to monitor his progress with a view to a summer move.

City believe they have the edge over United in the chase because Clyne has the same advisers as their England defender Micah Richards.

United officials have made concrete moves regarding their interest in Clyne and it is looking increasingly likely he will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

Clyne becomes a free agent when his contract expires in the summer but his next club will have to pay a compensation fee - expected to be around £2million - set by a tribunal.

United, meanwhile, will not be pursuing a deal for Benfica’s Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan, 24.

no suprise that City are suddenly linked with one of our supposed targets.

I like how they throw in that snippet about a supposedly much bigger transfer story at the end with a throw-away line.

It s a polite way of saying that the original story was a load of rubbish...

The Guardian had a scouting report on Clyne that was done in 2009 when he was 17 where the scouts had predicted he was going to be a top 4 team player in the future.

At 2 million or whatever we end up paying that's a pretty good deal for a young player with that sort of promise. Lord knows we need a decent right back.

I've noticed a few of those types of comments from RR recently. You trying to compete with friendlytramp, Richio?
