You do realise this is a 12.5 m right back who isnt a kid who has lost his place to Hendo and Jones at International level, who no one other than Brenton wanted, who didnt shine for England and never stood out for Southampton as an individual, whose club manager Koeman never lauded.....nor fought hard for.....who would be competing with Rafael and Valencia for a spot and others...you're getting worked up over absolutely nothing. He isnt going to defy everyone and become ashley cole.

This post is more than flawed. I already addressed the international thing. Im sorry but I don't give a shit about the English NT and how our players and others get on with them. Why should this be used as a stick to beat him with? Koeman is the same guy who gave Clyne a ten day ultimatum to sign a contract...yet you say he never fought for him. Clearly he doesn't care right?

Im not getting worked up buddy, I just think your points are ridiculously flawed. Clyne just turned 24 two months ago. Not a kid but not even close to his prime yet, and the bid is for 12.5M because he only has a year left on his contract. Rumors have it that Real Madrid made an opening 13M bid for De Gea.

It is true though...he's never really stood out for England or Southampton. Well not in a positive way

Liverpool might be my second team for taking Clyne and Ings off the table

ok De Gea now who is lauded by everyone as our most important player against Clyne. England aside your wanting an average right back who only a top 6 team wanted right. Whats your argument exactly feck me at the end of next season your going to laugh. We'll get better if its a possibility. LVG knows....

Never stood out for Southampton in a positive way...so that suggests he's stood out in negative ways. Care to elaborate? Valencia quietly did a solid job for United last season. He didn't really stand out in many games either...is that a bad thing? Clyne was Soton's young player of the year twice, player of the year period once in the championship. He's never really stood out for Southampton tho. Again, feck England (personally). He's off to Liverpool anyway.

For very good reasons which will become apparent in time.....

Clyne would have made no significant improvement to our team, apart from adding an extra Englishman to the line up. Having an all English back 4 would be the only positive. For now keeping Valencia and Rafael and rotating is good enough for me unless we can sign darmian.

Exciting times for Liverpool
Yeah he stood out for being a very average RB when he played for England. I have no idea why you would settle for Clyne instead of others like Darmian just because you think they might end up going to Real Madrid.

Edit - I just checked and those awards seem to be for when he was at Crystal Palace 4 years ago in the championship  He doesn't seem to have had anything at Southampton

Im over it already. Im just eager for us to improve this position and there's a dearth of real quality at the moment it seems

No there isnt a dearth. There is no more a lack of options than there were any year. There are 3-4 better options and we'll get one if possible.

I don't see the reason for laughing at it. You're the person who said he's NEVER stood out for Southampton in a positive way. Has Phil Jones ever looked exceptional for England? Jeesuz

"Clyne was Soton's young player of the year twice, player of the year period once in the championship. He's never really stood out for Southampton tho"

Because it was Crystal Palace where he got that stuff not Southampton according to Wiki

If we had signed Clyne, he'd get his chance in the team, he'd disappoint, people would have seen he isn't all that and start complaining and before you know it LVG would use Valencia back again all the time.

You don't know that

Liverpool are getting a bargain at that price. Clyne is a player who is good at what he is supposed to be his primary job, which is defend. Most people are basing their opinions of him after watching the England game against Italy. Clyne is a good player now, he will get even better in the next few years.

He's a good signing for Liverpool but it's not like he's exceptionally good in either defence or attack, he'll need to keep improving. Still, for that price and at that age he is certainly very good value. Not someone we're gonna massively regret not signing though.

Never wanted him here but considering the price, it's a good signing for Liverpool. Not sure he's any real upgrade on Johnson though.

Many were very keen on Clyne when we were looking likely to sign him, now it's clear we're not there's many rushing to put him down and some even rewriting history ("never stood out in a positive way for Southampton")

He's a good, proven premier league right back. Will be a decent signing for Liverpool for a relative snip.

Always maintained I didn't fancy him as anything more than a squad option at United but at 12mil he'd have been worth a punt maybe.

Sticking to my guns on this one, I don't think he's anything special and if we get Coleman we will have the comfortably better RB in my view.

On the contrary, plenty didn't want him and many said they would take him as a squad player but didn't want him as first choice. He's definitely a good player and at that price, it's good business for Liverpool. Southampton obviously feel that Soares is an adequate replacement as they don't seem to be putting up any fight in regards to to the sale of Clyne. I doubt anyone is honestly saying he's crap now because we aren't signing him.

Yup, I would have thought this was always the general consensus. I have never seen anyone on here lavishing praise on Clyne or crying out for us to sign him. He's a decent player and will be a good signing for that price, but he's nothing more.

Tbf I didnt see so many posters being keen on him. Well before this signing people were saying he's nothing special.

Zabaleta is getting on and they need to work towards the future. Plus they need homegrown players and are apparently looking at that lad from Fulham (Roberts?) and Delph.
Neither of them are right backs, but I see your point.

He's had his medical at Liverpool, now if Fergie was in charge, he would have made a classic move and signed him up from in front of Liverpool's noses.

Just want Liverpool to sign him now just to get it over with. He's definitely an improvement on Johnson for them, but it's still a bit of a meh signing. I can't see him becoming world class at all. Should be a good signing for them though.

Clyne to Liverpool confirmed. Let's see how he does and see if it was a mistake not to pursue him any further.

Surprised the club were not in for him.Maybe we have someone more experienced in mind or he'll stick to what he as.
