Nathaniel Clyne given 10-day deadline to decide on Manchester United transfer as Southampton star stalls on new contract
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has set a final 10-day deadline for Manchester United target Nathaniel Clyne to decide on his future as the in-demand right back stalls over a new contract.
Clyne has been one of Southampton’s star performers in an excellent season at St Mary’s and his form has earned England recognition as well as interest from United and Chelsea.
And while Koeman says the 24-year-old is happy on the south coast, he could look to move him on with next season the last under his contract contract.
‘We’re still speaking with Clyney and his agent, but of course we have to know in 10 days,’ Koeman said. ‘The club is doing an offer the maximum what we can do and then we expect the player’s answer.
‘I’ve spoken to Clyney, he’s very happy and of course there is some interest but nobody has really bid for the player. All the players are happy with how the team is doing.
‘But it’s football, you never know. In football if you go in your last season of contract, we don’t like that.’
Asked why there has been a delay with Clyne - who has already missed a Koeman-imposed deadline - signing a new deal, the Dutch boss said: 'Ask him, ask his agent, I don't know.'
