He is good, better than what we have now

I don't think he's better then Rafael. However the Brazilian has never been a consistent performer due to his injuries. Its time we bring a player that can achieve that.

In my opinion we need 2 full backs. I would go for Clyne and Darmian. Both are solid defenders and can play as LB if needed. That would certainly give us options.

Clyne is not a patch on Rafael.

Coleman would be my choice if we're buying a right-back. Valencia would then be surplus to requirements.

Coleman would cost a lot and we've got other areas to strengthen. I wouldn't mind Clyne and Darmian to be honest. Both will come at reasonable fees and can play in numerous positions. The former is also English born which is a big plus considering Dyke's rules.

The Express are the really really really shitty one when it comes to transfer news right? As they have a story saying we are going to offer £15M + Hernandez for Clyne.
It wouldn't surprise me considering how shit we have been at both identifying players and then overpaying for them.

Clyne isn't neither good enough for us, nor should cost mroe than 15m.

So we're saying that he isn't haly as good as Shaw? Riiiight.

Apparently, Clyne demoted to the bench today due to contract issues.

He's the sort of player who builds a good reputation amongst neutrals and casual fans because of his attacking play. But his defending isn't good enough for a top team.

agree with this. it'd be a fairly uninspired signing, and no doubt cost a sh!tload indeed.

Saw a review of England v Italy, and his rating was low and the comment was about being out of his depth.
Yes it's Italy, but it wasn't a full or good Italy

Hmm. Swap deals barely ever happen, but I'd say that would be good business for us if we can get it. Chicha has been out of favour at Madrid and is probably worth 10-12m now.

Decent player, but not the best option. If we wanted a PL option, I'd take Coleman, especially if Mata is the man in front of him. Darmian is the best option available though I think.

Darmian is certainly the best option (now with Danillo gone) and I agree that Coleman would be a better option than him.

Frankly speaking, I am not sure that Clyne is any better than the current version of Valencia, and certainly not as good as Rafael in Fergie's last season.

Haven't seen enough of Clyne to be honest, but I'd be probably be content with Valencia again next season unless we can get a good deal for a good right-back.

I agree, Id take Valencia over Clyne given current form.
Coleman and Carvajal are my picks for the RB slot.

If LVG decides that he can't trust Rafael for whatever reason then I think Clyne is an outstanding option. He can offer competition for the LB/RB spots and who knows if he can show he's good enough to push Valencia/Shaw out of the team.

Valencia is going to be 30 before the start of next season and Dani Alves is 31 and already considered to be way past his peak. So having Clyne here who can offer back up and competition for both sides would be great as we lack it in that case.

Best case scenario LVG already believes in Rafael and feels that he has an important job to do here either as a back up or as a first choice starter. In that case we don't need to bring in Clyne I believe and rather focus on a first choice type of player.

There aren't any world class right backs available though so it isn't all that easy.

I think Clyne is pretty good.

Obviously Coleman and Carvajal are better but I wouldn't mind Clyne at all.

It would be pretty cool to have an all English back four of Shaw, Jones, Smalling and Clyne.

Why should Manchester United be happy with an inferior option? If you're a top club, you go for the best that's out there.

Carvajal has been the best RB in the world for the last 2 years. Just that it won't happen, Madrid aren't that big fools.

Perhaps, but you should go with the player who's the best fit, and if he happens to be a cheaper option, so be it. Fergie was a master at this, whether that was enforced by financial constraints or otherwise. He got it wrong now and again but overall, the "lesser lights" he purchased did really well.

What kind of RB is Darmian? If we keep Valencia I'd prefer someone who's very good going forward as the other option.

Clyne is average, we should hold tight and wait to see what happens with Carvajal after a season of playing back-up to the latest Brazilian Galactico.

I have no idea why everyone is assuming Carvajal will be the back up. And Rafael contract expires in 2016(which means he will more than likely be sold) we need a RB this summer. We can not wait a year

I'm so sure that the majority of the caf really wanted this guy and then a few weeks ago the tone dramatically changed?

I like him. Haven't seen him have a bad game and I think he'll be a good signing for good value.

Nobod wanted him. At least 80% are against it

Let's be honest Nathaniel Clyne is an average option.

He'd hardly be the worst option, young, & English, yes maybe dropped off a bit recently but he is clearly talented, he would more than likely would be willing to learn, and play exactly as LvG tells him to, more so than someone that bit older, or more established.

Would be nice to have the Clyne, and Shaw as our LB, & RB's long term.

Who is a better option(and I mean a realistic option).

I think someone has already asked me a same question in this thread.

I would answer that I don't think Clyne is a better option than Antonio Valencia.Obviously I think Rafael is better as well but he will be flogged to somewhere in the summer anyway so never mind.

For better options in the market, I don't watch much Serie A but Darmian perhaps?Don't want to repeat what everyone already said I'm sure you can find host of names in this thread alone.Would rather to grow one of our own (i.e Janko) or sign a promising player rather than an average player because he's more "ready".In a nutshell, I don't think Clyne is good enough or will be for Manchester United.Lack of options or not won't change that. It's a pity that Rafael is as good as gone that made us into this situation.

Don't think we can sign Carvajal anyway. He might want to stay and fight for his spot.Next summer perhaps but it's another story.
