I'd take Clyne but would have reservations about paying any more than £15m for him.

It'd be good to have more English players in the side.

Yeah 15 is about the right price for him, but he's English for a start, so 20 is probably what we should be paying to get him.

Fair enough, I still think it could be an issue but 25 million is not the kind of money I want to spend on a player who's not much better than what we have.
I would be happy if United paid 25 million quid for Rafael's quality that lasts through a whole season without being as injury-prone as Diaby.

Because...

Because hes the popular choice. I've seen nothing to say he is better than Raf except he can stay fit. Still a good player though but for the price we would have to pay, I'd rather we got someone else

I don't see the point in going after Clyne right now.

Valencia has done well at RB and LvG has claimed McNair can be our RB for the next 10 years. I do think McNair will be given every opportunity to succeed as he was quite shockingly plucked from relative obscurity by LvG himself. McNair's probably going to be a personal project of LVG's and signing Clyne would hamper his development.

On top of that even though we have money to spend, we still have to be reasonable. Clyne will cost north of 30 million. We buy Clyne and say Hummels, that's already 60 million spent and that without even buying the midfielder that LvG confirmed he wanted.

Thirty million? Clyne has one year left on his contract. If he wants to leave then Southampton will be lucky to see twenty.

They're in no position to take the financial hit on him in a stand of principle either.

If McNair is Man Utd's first choice rightback for the next 10 years we wont be in the Premiership by then.

Like who?

Danillo is a better player, I also quite like Fabinho from Monaco.
However there are plenty of players out there, our scouts should be looking at, don't always have to go for the obvious choice.

I don't really understand the McNair thing, he did well at CB already, why not continue to develop him there? That was a new position for him too right? Not sure all the chopping of changing of positions will be doing him much good.

Think they'll get 20 based on the very fact we'll have competition for his signature. That said Koeman might see some benefit in taking Rafael and showing LVG a "trick or two" :)

Never thought about a potential swap. Guess it will depend where Southampton finish and who else is interested in Rafa.

 You do realise that come the summer he will only have 12 months left on his current deal? He's also a defender.

Young, talented, domestic player with a year left on his contract and in a position we are desperately in need of filling.

Have to be in for him. I think £20m sounds about right.

I'm pretty sure Arsenal will be keen on Rafa he fits their style very well and they have a nibble at our defenders i.e. Smalling, most summers it appears.

I doubt they spent money on another right-back. They've Debuchy, Bellerin looks promising and Chambers can play in that position too.
I'm sure the twins will go together to Spain or Italy.

Bellerin is very highly rated from what I gather.

With British managers like Sir Alex and even Moyes I would automatically be expecting for us to snap up talented British youngsters, take Shaw last year for example, so with Clyne on most teams radar I would presume we'd have been strongly looking at him right now under either of those two, under LvG, I'm uncertain what type of player we'd go for, what league, how much influence our scouting system LvG will pay heed to and so on.
It will be interesting to see the approach we take come the summer.

We would be stupid not to be interested in Clyne, we are playing Valencia at right back ffs. Rafael was a great player for us a couple of seasons ago and I don't doubt that if he went 2 seasons injury free he would rediscover that form. But I honestly don't believe he can stay fit for that long, maybe that's why he's having a prolonged spell in the reserves.

Also, many top teams having more then one quality full back. City have Sagna and Zabaleta, Clichy and Kolorov. We should get Clyne before anyone else does.

If we buy a new RB then we should go for Clyne or Coleman

We'll buy probably players from others league for other positions (CB, CM, winger and striker) so i think we should go in that position for a PL player

Clyne would be perfect for United. Young, English and raring to go.

Is he good defensively? He has the speed.

He's been pretty good defensively after the first Dortmund game, his positioning has improved a lot (Gary Neville did a little piece on him during a match a few weeks ago, when he scored, highlighting his positioning and the improvement he's made).

He's got the (incredible) recovery speed to make up for mistakes ATM, and his positioning has improved a lot since the season started. He's still quite slight though, so hopefully he fills out some more over the next few years.

I have very high hopes for him... And wouldn't be surprised if Barcelona come knocking once their ban is over and Alves is given the boot.

Was dire vs monaco.

I wouldn't mind us having 4 specialist full backs on our books. If we let Rafael go I hope we sign two RBs.

Rafael is comfortably better than him. Clyne can stay fit, plays in a team with good defensive tactics with player like Bertrand picking up clean sheets for fun. Even Yoshida looks quality there. Another Clyne's advantage is that he can play on the left as well but Rafael doesn't look out of pace there either.

I guess we are well sorted with Valencia making solid impact and with almost no injuries or dips of form is worth to keep, Rafael still 24! as best RB when fit needs to be given chance like Herrera who proved van Gaal very wrong. They are actually having similar season but Rafael didn't get a chance yet.. Also the best RB in next ten years can be the third option here - McNair and Young is also right footed to be a solid backup, we absolutely don't need to splash money for this surely overpriced player in the summer, he's not even better than Valencia imo.

On the left we have Shaw, Young, Rojo and James as backup backup, so we don't need fullback at all

Also I forgot to mention versatile Lingard and Varela who has big potential however he will end up in Madrid unfortunately.

SO again no need for FB, spend elsewhere! fecking DM and wide attacker

I don't think he's anything special. Surely there must be someone better out there that we can get?

We are the second biggest club in the world by revenue. Sorting out the FB positions as well as the other areas isn't a huge ask.

Sign Clyne for £15m roughly. I wouldn't want us to get ripped off again.

Not sure he's as good as peak Rafael but then again we haven't seen that since SAF's last season. I would keep Rafael but it looks like Van Gaal doesn't like him.
