After watching Sami Ameobi cause him so many problems for 20 minutes I don't know if he's any better defensively than what we already have.
And he's a far better player but not English hence the overrating of Clyne....who is at best, in his shadow!

Clyne's a good player and I'd be very surprised if he didn't end up going to a top club but "incredible" awareness? I want whatever you're smoking.

He's very calm, no fart-brain crap like Rafael.
When was Rafa's last brain fart?
Nat Clyne's last brain fart was more recent. Letting Sami Ameobi get by him, more than once.

Barney, stop posting sensible things about United players! Blasphemy! He's not better than Rafael defensively.
Clyne's awareness is incredible and his crossing very impressive. Coleman's awareness is less good (not a specific criticism because Clyne's is great) and he's a pretty average crosser; he scores goals though, so if anything he's the overrated one because he gets on the scoresheet more.
Clyne's a better player than Shaw, but both are fantastically defensively aware and rightfully praised.
'Awareness'
FFS.
The rules state i have to criticise the post, not the poster.
That post is a f*cking plank
How would you define "awareness"?
I'd describe it as being aware to danger, or is that too direct a definition?
Times a player got beaten down their wing or gave a free kick away (equally as dangerous when you're a full back).
Clyne 28%
Clichy 33%
Sagna 35%
Shaw 36%
Azpilicueta 37%
Ivanovic 38%
Filipe 41%
Rafael 42%
Zabaleta 44%
Kolarov 68%
So yes, I'd say he has incredible awareness.
I wouldnt define 'awareness'.
i wouldnt attempt to use it to define how good a player is on an internet forum. I'd sound stupid

How on earth would he be a Shaw type of signing?

With Shaw we acted quickly without saga and Woodward did what was required. I think Clyne could be similarly easy to sign if the rumours about LvG being admirer of him are true. How on earth would he be a Shaw type of signing?
Deal lined up pretty early. From the same club too.

May be tough to sign him from Koeman, since him and LVG have a poor relationship.
Was Koeman even in charge for Shaw?First off, Luke Shaw. Second, Southampton aren't a club that earn enough revenue that they could allow him to leave on a free and give up a £25m fee.

Fair enough, I still think it could be an issue but 25 million is not the kind of money I want to spend on a player who's not much better than what we have.IIRC, the only transfer he wasn't there for was Lambert's.

Arias from PSV (?) would be a cheaper option and he's quality, imo. There aren't many full backs better than Rafael. The ones that are will be unattainable. The ones on a similar level will cost you an arm and a leg. Rafael is too injury prone and seemingly Van Gaal doesn't rate him so you have to spend on one.
So ignoring the part where he's a teenage prodigy, arguably the best of his age group. And I dont think it was that easy, else we wouldn't have had to pay so much
Not as good as Rafael, is only a year younger and was being kept on the bench by an 18 year old not too long ago.
