Yep Van Gaal getting hammered for the 352 but without a proper right back then we simply can't do 433. Van Gaal knows we need to start playing 433 sharpish. Rafael is a pussy and a liability of a defender but great at going forward but he absolutely has no future here. Southampton will ask for about 7 or 8 million more for Clyne during the window if they decide to sell him in January so not sure Woody will be willing to spend that. I think Clyne is only solid rb we'd have a chance of getting in january..we urgently need him and that will play into southamptons hands

Why can't we?

If we're looking for a RB for right now then there are probably a few better options than Clyne about. If we're thinking long term though then you can't really argue with bringing him in.

He'll cost a fortune though, especially if we get him in this window.

Hope so. Clyne has been excellent this season and it would probably mean that 3-5-2 is not a long term plan.

Clyne would fit in very well at wing back.

Miguel Delaney thinks he is our RB target now...

Hope it's true. I would much rather you signed him than Coleman. I rate Clyne, but I think he's bang average defensively. Coleman is better defensively and going forward IMO.

Because to have enough protection with 433 at the back then you really need to have solid defenders and a proper central midfielder who can protect the back like Chelsea have with Matic. We have neither
Yeah, Yeovil's strike force would out the fear of God into any team.

We've played 4 at the back plenty of times without a natural right back. So have many other teams. This idea that we have had to play 352 is nonsense imo.

I'm not really sure.

Baines and Coleman are pretty attacking full backs and players you'd think would suit playing wing back but iirc, when Everton played with wing backs they were no where near as effective.

Baines isn't a good wing back because he can't beat players. He relies on overlapping.

Coleman has played as an actual winger a fair bit in the past so if we were looking for someone to switch between fullback/wingback then he'd be a more obvious choice.

If getting him aids a permanent move to 4 at the back, just throw money.

But the fact that he and Shaw combined would probably hit £60m is just mental. It's not my money, but it's bizarre. Full backs used to be cheap and cheerful.

Does anyone care about debt these days what happened to the green and gold brigade??

He's a natural fullback just like Shaw. Cannot see us playing wing backs if he's signed, which would be glorious.

I don't see Saints letting anyone go this window. The CL money is worth more than transfers and they'd still get a great price in the summer.

And he's a far better player but not English hence the overrating of Clyne....who is at best, in his shadow!

No way will it happen now unless they absolutely takes us to the cleaners. They will do either way so it might as well happen now, especially if he is our number one RB target.

Split, one has just emerged this season!! Joke. God Glen Johnson looked promising for longer in his career.
So because people disagree with you and others their opinion becomes a joke? Both are talented, it doesn’t matter how long they’ve been ‘about for’

We hastily bought Zaha in my humble opinion on such over exuberance lets say. You can say Clyne has talent but to measure him against Coleman is like me saying Sterling is as talented as David Silva.

Zaha had only played well in the Championship though, Clyne has done extremely well in the PL, so he is more accomplished than when we bought Zaha. I do think one the things that weighs in his favour is he's English though.

I'm merely suggesting we should take less of a punt for once and get proven consistency and a known quantity in Coleman over the new kid on the block who may or may not be just having a good time of it lets say....

I can see your point but I personally think Clyne will prove to be a lot more than a flash in the pan. In truth I don't care which one of them we buy, we just need one regardless.

Zaha was unproven in the Premiership, as for the Sterling/Silva reference, it would still be split opinions in here on which player would be the better buy for the Club/team.
Further, Clyne is playing for team that is sitting third in the league and should have beaten us home and away in the league, they have a realistic chance of getting into the Champions League this season. Coleman is also a very good player, personally I don’t which one we get, if we’re even after them in the first place.
For me there isn’t a great deal between them in terms of talent, the only small advantage Clyne has is his younger age, but as 26 Coleman isn’t exactly close to retirement.

Edit
I know stats can be misleading

Hope to never see that to be fair. Only Shaw in my opinion has world class potential, but actually needs to significantly improve attacking wise.

Clyne is bang average defensively. If we're going to sign someone from this league, then Coleman is the man.

People seem to be forgetting the fact that come the summer he will only have 12 months left on his contract. If we were to go for him then I can't see him costing any more than £15-20 million.

Not a chance we will get him this month. Southampton are genuinely in the race for top 4 - there is no way they will sell right now.

Summer is a different story.

Thank the lord we have some common sense.

Getsme I respect your opinion and I follow your thoughts on here more than most but I cannot agree on this one. Its Coleman by a long way. Its unfashionable in a way Irwin was and I like that. I still like you though!

Well how can I disagree with you now?
