Nathaniel Clyne | Signed for Liverpool

Clyne is getting raved about by everyone this morning after last night's performance. He did well and I do like the look of him, but I thought Shaw was much better both going forward and defensively, but there's barely even a whisper about him.

what about Darmian? Has anyone seen him on a regular basis?
He plays on the left nowadays, mostly. Plus, he's not better than Clyne. Or Rafael.

If I was in need of a RB right now, I'd be looking at Danilo, Coleman, Mario Fernandes. Beyond that, I can't really see hat much qualiy on the market, or coming through. De Sciglio and Aurier being the exceptions but I don't think we could get them.

Clyde did really good
Though obv it's a friendly

Coleman was playing in a team which on the night had a central midfield not capable of making a simple tackle or tracking back and giving him a dig out.

That being said his international form to date is miles off what he's shown in the premiership.

I thought Clyne played well last night. Certainly doesn't look out of place at International level thus far, although arguably the opponents will get harder as time goes on. Would probably be my 1st choice at RB as a realistic replacement \ backup for Rafael in the Summer.

He's miles better than Johnson. Glen Johnson is a headless chicken that can burst forward but his ball control level would be more suited to a team like Burnley or Crystal palace. That's why Rodgers is desperate to dump him. Clyne is wonderful in possession and will be Englands right back for next 10 years

I will bet you £1000 that he is not still England's first choice right back in 10 years. I doubt he'll make 4.

You don't rate him or you think England have a better up and coming right back?

He's OK. Within 10 years I would expect there to be at least one significantly better right back come through.

He'll be the RB at the next world cup though. Walker is his competition and he's shite.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think he looks hugely better than Walker, though he's certainly a little better as he actually has a few brain cells to rub together. You're probably right about him being right back at the next world cup although it will be interesting to see how Chambers develops as he'll be 23 by then.

Chambers looks like a CB to me.

Clyne is good but this is excessive. Rafael is a far better player. Rafael is just as good going forward and a lot more defensively secure as well. If you were going to spend a tonne for Clyne, you'd be better off trying for Coleman who would probably cost slightly more and is an infinitely superior player.

If Rafael wasn't so injury prone we wouldn't be having this conversation. The benefit of Clyne over Coleman is his versatility, plus he would be cheaper.

He's better than Walker and he's better than Johnson of the past two years. He's not anything special though IMO.

I've been a fan of Clyne for a long time and have been advocating his signing and England selection for yonks. Clyne is a very good young right back who we should've snapped up ages ago when he was leaving Palace.

However, everyone seems to be hugely overrating him now after years of underrating him. Imo, he'll never be world class or even top top class. He's not better than Rafael/Coleman/Zabaleta (yet anyway!) and doesn't have the talent to be as good as Shaw, Stones and Chambers for example do in their respective positions.

However, having said that, I'd be more than willing to take him off Soton's hand as he's still a good young English player and would improve us tenfold as we wouldn't have to rely on the brilliant but permacrock that is Rafael.

I agree with all that, but the (yet anyway!) part. He'll never be as good as they are now.

Realistically, I don't think so either but then again I didn't expect Zabaleta and Coleman to be as good as they are now, so I'll give him the tiniest benefit of the doubt.

I would be happy with anyone of Coleman, Clyne, Piszczek or Danilo for next summer.....but it's 100% clear we're needing a new starting RB!!!!

The same goes for Rafael

Piszczek for me. We need muscle and height in that position to complete Shaw's good work and attributes on the left.

it baffles me how a manager could have thought that either Johnson , Chambers or JOnes were better options at RB.

No, Rafael has the ability to be the best in the PL and at least be a United great. He has all the characteristics and abilities for doing just that, and has ironed out a lot of the flaws in his game but what use is that when he's always on the treatment table. He's much better than Clyne in terms of talent and potential though.

I'm starting to like this fella. If only he werent English(premium). I'm going to track him closely from now on(especially his fitness record).

I haven't seen that of Rafael so far.....i love his character (little dirty bastard...we don't have many in the team) but he makes too many mistakes for me. His 7th season at Old Trafford.

Anyway massive season for him......no improvement in his game or more injuries then he will be a bench player next season.

Rafa is sexier no doubt but he aint this "on the verge of being world class" player a lot of people make him out to be. I like the guy but he is just a good RB with a flaw or 2 in him.

Those saying Coleman is better could do well to compare both performers v Anya this weekend

Clyde did really good
Though obv it's a friendly

Clyne got skinned by Anya, and then Russel when he came on. Roberton's goal also included passing and moving past Clyne

Coleman had a very good defensive performance

Thought Anya destroyed him myself

Nah, Coleman dealt with him well enough. Naismith and Maloney were far bigger dangers in that game.

Coleman is better than Clyne and not by a small margin either.

Yeah, have to agree.

While I still maintain him getting skinned in matches is being overlooked in the current hype behind him, Clyne is currently the most frequent tackler in the league averaging 5 tackles a match which is very impressive. And he's clearly mainly an offensive fullback so its a good string to his bow.

Mind you Antonio Valencia is 4th most frequent tackler at 4.1 tackles a game, so we already have someone similar

Another good game, and a goal..

Not United quality sadly. At least judging from this game agaisnt us. Young has troubled him all evening and he's offered nothing going forward. And I was just warming to the idea of him,but no,he wont do.

Really? Firstly you can't judge a player based on one game. Besides I thought he did well. I thought he had Young in his pocket all game and I can't remember Young beating him that often at all in a 1 v 1 situation.

Young doesnt want to beat people, he wants to come on his right foot and get crosses in. Which he did lots tonight and was our best avenue to hurt the opposition

I hope he has had better games! Sure he wasnt gashed up all ends but I didnt see anything today to champion his cause further.

Ya he had some joy in the first half doing that but Clyne got a lot tighter in the second and managed to dispossess him a good few times.

He has. He certainly wasn't so poor tonight that anyone can rule out signing him based on this one game.

The only thing I don't like about him is his hairstyle. I'd be very interested in pinching him.
