How is Coleman too expensive for us?

Do you think Everton would be stupid enough by not asking a high price tag for him? From what I know, they have a good financial situation although they are not heavy spenders, so they can afford to ask us loads of money or feck off. Not only that, they are aware a number of teams in the Premier League are keeping an eye on this guy.

None of that alters that he isn't too expensive for us if LvG wanted him, I doubt Everton would expect more than £30M and they need to sell to buy, the only big money they spent this past summer was the money they got from us for fellaini.

I'd sign him. Looks composed going forward and in defence. Let him and Rafael compete with each other. Plus he has the England connection/understanding already with the likes of Smalling, Jones and Shaw.

Can cover left back too if needed, would be a very good signing if it was for a reasonable price.

Yep, tidy player.

He would probably cost us around £25 million now though.

Skinned once each by Anya and Russell, and while the Scotland goal isnt his fault he does get done by Robertson's good movement

Mostly good performance aside from that but definitely not solid defensively

Said it before but I'd rather have him available throughout the season, than Rafael who misses half the games through injury. Great wee player. Tonight wasn't his best showing though

Rafael is the better player right now, that's not to say Clyne won't keep improving though. As @Santos J stated he can cover left back aswell, would be a good signing providing asking price isn't crazy.

Weird, when I said he'd be a good signing a few weeks ago hardly anyone agreed....
I don't think the concensus was doubting his ability, just that his price tag probably wouldn't warrant it when we already have Rafael.

I wanted him when we were linked for £5m from Palace. He already had around 100 games for them. Now we'll be paying Shaw money.

He's not as good as Rafael but he'd be an excellent signing IMO. English, quick, strong, good going forward and can cover either side. Don't think he'd want to come here as cover though, and when Rafael is fit he is a very good right back so it's a tricky situation for us to sign somebody to cover there.

It's very easy to say that but Clyne was very weak defensively when he first moved to Southampton and he took quite a while to get up to speed. It's important for players to get that time at a smaller club under considerably less pressure to develop their game at a key stage in their development. Sometimes buying them cheap and early can hinder their development in a big way (e.g. Smalling).

He would be well worth it for Chambers type money. £25m would be too much.

Clyne is pure class. Exactly what we need. I'd fly Raphael back to Brazil meself if we were able to get Clyne. Raphael is decent but is reckless and injury prone and you just can't rely on him in the long term.

I don't think Clyne would see himself as merely cover personally. I agree, that Rafael is the superior player when on top of his game, but when he misses so many games a season due to injury, Clyne would see an opportunity to nail down a first team place.

He can cover left back too, so having three quality fullbacks in like Rafael, Shaw and Clyne for each of the fullback positions is the ideal scenario for any aspiring top side IMO. Chelsea have that in Ivanovic, Azpilicueta and Felipe and we would have plenty of energy and potential if we had the aforementioned three, plus Clyne's versatility.

I love Rafael and think he is a better player than Clyne, but yes the fitness issue is key.

Honestly though, Clyne and Rafael can both cover at LB and with no real cover for Shaw currently, it wouldn't be that hard to rotate the three of them.

The reduced pressure and workload might do Rafael some good, who knows?

Of course there is also the very real possibility that if Clyne did come here, he too would succumb to our injury-inflicting curse.

Yeah, I agree it'd be ideal for us, but then what if Rafael suddenly got over his injuries? It's ideal for the club of course to have 3 very good fullbacks, 1 of them being versatile like with Chelsea, but the problem is would the player be ok with it? Say Rafael gets over his injuries by some miracle. Clyne will probably end up on the bench and would only come in now and then. He'd get plenty of games, but there is a difference with getting plenty of games and being first choice. Tevez back in 08/09 had as many minutes as any of our forwards, but was firmly 4th choice behind Ronaldo, Rooney and Berba. When the important games came along, players want to be first choice and that's the problem with keeping a big squad with a lot of top players happy. Probably why Fergie ended up buying a lot of players who are versatile but also squad player quality with good attitudes, they wouldn't complain about being dropped or shifted around.

Rafael is slightly better going forward, but that's about it. Rafael is still suspect defensively and can barely play more than 2 -3 games before he takes his regular injury break. Clyne is better defensively and is not bad going forward, but the most important thing is he would be available for selection instead of being on the treatment table. No matter how good a player is, if he cannot be counted on to be available to play, then what good does would that do. Been calling for Clyne and Schniederlin for the last 18 months or so, would be very good signings for United.

He'd be a good signing for us, we've always went for the best English players when possible and Rafael shouldn't be scared of competition, if we get back to where we were then there should be plenty of game time for both.

Yeah, the Clyne I saw when we played Palace and on a few occasions after wouldn't have been good enough to displace Rafael. The time at Southampton has really brought him on. Though I suppose he might have gotten the games to develop given Rafael's questionable injury record.

I still think as a back up we should look abroad, but if he continues to develop he could be a top class RB.

Only realistically out of the top 5 in England, at Liverpool he would be a guaranteed starter too, so he might be their first target.

Good to see Hodgson giving these players a chance though.

Maybe he would have done but if he really struggled defensively I could see Fergie playing Jones or Smalling there ahead of him which again would have hurt his development.

I like Clyne but I would hope we could get someone better abroad for £25m.

I reckon Coleman would cost around 30 million! too much in my opinion, What do ye reckon Clyne would cost?, I like him!

I think he's a slight upgrade on Glen Johnson. Much rather have Coleman personally if we really want a right back.

He'd be a good option, but only at the right price - which he won't be available for.

We definitely need another specialist right-back (and soon)

He's miles better than Johnson. Glen Johnson is a headless chicken that can burst forward but his ball control level would be more suited to a team like Burnley or Crystal palace. That's why Rodgers is desperate to dump him. Clyne is wonderful in possession and will be Englands right back for next 10 years
