Muppet Watch 2013 Edition

He'll go to Bayern over us if he has his way. Our only chance there is Dortmund not selling to Bayern and us convincing him this summer.

Still, i doubt with our striker situation vs Bayern he will come here.

But on Football Manager it says he has a preference to play in England!

Sounds like he is targeting players who can improve our first team based on that.

Yeah that is how it read to me as well and it seems logical, we have good depth, so quality over quantity would seem the order of the day in this window.

In Muppet mode I would really like us to start trying to turn Wilshere's head towards us. I don't think it'd happen as he seems like a loyal Arsenal lad and Wenger would resist as long as possiible, but it'd be good to start laying some seeds of doubt in his head. In a year or two, he might well be gettable.

Also I'm disappointed that there hasn't been a big media fuelled transfer saga over Bale yet. You'd have thought that by now there would be a couple wild and unfounded rumours at the very least.

Oh, forgot to say, Herrera would've been great. Kid has got a lot of talent, and wouldn't be such a big price. Great CM, with vision, great passing and a hell of a shot. Wilshere would be great, but would cost too much for him to come, we could buy Ander and Gundogan for that price at least...

Bale would be a dream.

Ronaldo would be unreal!!

If we shop out several players as is expected I can see at least one no signing

I'm all for exciting young talents, but another big name or two would be really nice. I think that we're only two top signing's away from being a real force in Europe next season.

Seeing as Barca got humiliated last night while Messi was on the bench(*gasp*), it is obvious that he wants to get away from there.

Cheeky 25 million bid this summer?

Isn't it about time for Gambit's Hamsik scale to make an appearance?

I'm waiting for the first sniff out there then it will reappear. The needle's been down for a while. Tell you what though, he's been moved back to the central position this season at Napoli and he's Serie A most prolific assister. He's having some performances that got me so wet all those years ago. Strength power and energy precision.

No need for major retooling in the squad apparently or for any large meaningful investment. We can put out 2 teams off 11 internationals according to Ed Woodward in the investor conference call.

He also said "Our main priority is to strengthen the squad" in the same conference call.

Yeah, he said that at the start of the conference call. You're right but then said there are no major changes expected or large investments when answering the question.

Suggests that there are plans to strengthen the squad but no plans for Bale/Ronaldo type mega signings at least till now. But maybe just reading too much into it.

On the bright side hopefully no major changes means Nani wont be sold.

No midfield :(

But executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is predicting a quiet close season at Old Trafford.

He said: "I wouldn't expect there to be a major retooling of the squad. There is incredible depth. We could put two first teams out with 11 internationals in each.

"It has been a phenomenal season. We are a long way ahead in the Premier League and whilst I wouldn't describe the way we got knocked out of the Champions League as luck things could have gone differently in that game.

"We have a young squad and each of those are a year older. We are very comfortable with make up of team and squad."

I liked Gill more :(
He always promised big signings and although he didnt always keep word it made us muppets hope.

Nobody is expecting a 'retooling of the squad' we just want a couple of quality players
This guy is already making the wrong noises, I have a feeling he could be a 'mega cnut'.

Wait until we sign this summer Ronaldo, Bale, Falcao, Lewandovski, Wilshere and Gundogan.

Edwardward Woodwardward is the opposite of Gill. He says that we won't sign and then bum, he'll sign a lot of world class * players.

* Don't know what it means

Sack Ed, hire Gill.

This Ed guy is a tool. Clearly doesnt know how to get a person moist with words. Bring back Gill aka Mr Moisture.

Martyn Zeigler suggests we could be in for Gareth Bale.

It's on!

AVB says: “I would be extremely surprised (if he left) ...

In football anything can happen. It’s impossible to predict, but this is the assurance I have had from the club."

It's off!

Sounds like Ed wants to keep the muppets at bay for the time being.......could get interesting.

The heading is misleading. What he said is the squad doesn't need major retooling, which it doesn't. However that doesn't mean that we're going to be quiet in signing a top player or two. SAF has already said that he's identified one or two targets, so that also indicates that we're not looking to make major changes to the squad, but to possibly add one or two big names to improve our starting 11.

Jol on Carrick -' "Manchester United put a bid in, we turned it down and that's it....I think I was pretty clear ? we do not want to sell him, the board do not want to sell him; Michael Carrick has got a contract for another two years and that's it." (13 June 2006)...

Carrick completes move to Man Utd - 31 July 2006

Jol on Berbatov - 'I have no fears - from anybody or any circumstances. The chairman would not sanction it, even if I would like to....I don't see any reason why we should. We made a lot of profit over the last six months and we don't have to sell.' (3 May 2007)

Ramos on Berbatov - 'We are happy because we have the player (Berbatov) on a contract and we plan to keep him.' (02 Jan 2008)

Man Utd complete Berbatov switch - 1 September 2008

I have no idea where Bale will end up, but he'll be leaving Spurs sooner rather then later, especially if you dont get 4th place. Face it, you're a selling club. So enjoy your last 3 games watching Bale at Spurs.

Ronaldo says "Hi".

PS. Is Bale going to be injured for our final game then?

"We've been doing that [planning for next season] for a while," he revealed at his pre-Chelsea press conference. "Your scouting goes on for the full season, actually sometimes two seasons when you maybe monitor a younger player. You want to see how he does the next season. That is the process we go through. We’ve got some ideas where we’re going and hopefully we can conclude them.

"We'll look at one or two bodies to come in. You’ve got to remember there are a lot of young players we expect to improve and take that into consideration. And you have to consider ages of players and protect that part. In the main, we’re know where we are. We’re comfortable.

"We have fantastic strength in depth. That’s the area where we don’t want to confuse ourselves because you end up with too many players and trying to keep them all happy. It’s happened a few times this season."

David Gill > Sir Alex > Ed Woodward in terms of getting muppet juices flowing. :p

1 or 2 players, and seems to suggests atleast 1 is someone who is a younger player we've been tracking for more than 1 season.

I suspect a James Rodriguez, Isco. Who we have probably been monitoring for a long while.

Hopefully he isn't referring to Powell, Cleverley and Anderson here...

I'm pretty prepared for a disappointing Summer, so I guess it can only surprise me if we do land a big player.

Ilkay Gundogan

He is young and apparently we were interested on him 2 years ago when he signed for Dortmund.
