Muppet Watch 2013 Edition

But executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is predicting a quiet close season at Old Trafford.

He said: "I wouldn't expect there to be a major retooling of the squad. There is incredible depth. We could put two first teams out with 11 internationals in each.

"It has been a phenomenal season. We are a long way ahead in the Premier League and whilst I wouldn't describe the way we got knocked out of the Champions League as luck things could have gone differently in that game.

"We have a young squad and each of those are a year older. We are very comfortable with make up of team and squad."

No war chest? :(

Its amazing how he starts the job by announcing a huge spending spree about to happen, only to have his first meeting with the glazers, and told the warchest has been buried.

Hopefully he isn't referring to Powell, Cleverley and Anderson here...

We really never saw the Cleverley-Anderson midfield this season, which was so successful last season...when both were fit, anyway.

But Carrick is surely going to start nearly every league game next season, so I can't see them getting a chance to cement a partnership, injury to Carrick aside.

Ferguson very complimentary of Bale.

Also says Nani isn't off.

In terms of him saying Nani is going nowhere, I read into that as very much the opposite.

We are not going to advertise him as available and sell him on the cheap. It was the normal line of "in our plans" but then followed by "but he hasn't signed a contract yet and we won't let him run it down and leave for free".

That to me sounds like if Nani doesn't sign up soon, we will be doing our best to invite the biggest offers in.

Is this the thread where we can post random muppet stuff?

I'd be happy with the following this summer:

Bale
Lampard
Cabaye

I have a sneaky feeling that those one or two signings that Fergie will make are going to be unknown youngsters rather than big names.

I think Fergie is on a mission to build another team capable of winning everything for the years to come and leave his successor with young players coming into their prime.

The signing of Zaha is in line with this policy.

Making a marquee: Manchester United get backing for big-name signing.. with Bale, Modric and Ronaldo on list

Ferguson wants to bring in a centre-back, midfielder and a *left-back while being assuerd he has funds to spend

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to break the bank to keep Manchester United at the summit of English football.

The Red Devils manager wants to build on *reclaiming the Premier League title by making at least one stellar signing this summer.

Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that *Ferguson has identified a need to *recruit a centre-back, a midfielder and a *left-back – but he has assured *United’s fans that the club’s - American owners will give him their full financial backing if he identifies a big-name signing.

United are monitoring Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation at Real Madrid, while Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and Real Madrid’s Luka Modric are also attracting Ferguson’s attention.

Ferguson said: “Everything is in place for a big signing. I think that the Glazers have been great.

“Whenever I have asked, they have delivered.

“If I ask to go for a certain player, I think they will do that.

“When I spoke about value in the market a while back, I was talking about young, developing players.

“Maybe there has been a wind of change and I could go for a really top player now.

“We have a nucleus of young players here, but we may spend something.

“When it’s a top player, it doesn’t matter what position they play in. I will bring them in if they add to the team.

“Last season we had [Javier] Hernandez, [Danny] Welbeck and [Wayne] Rooney and we still went out and bought Robin van Persie.”

United’s consistency on the pitch has been matched by strong financial results off it. They have just announced a record third-quarter turnover of £91.7million and are expected to generate in excess of £350m for the year.

Vice-chairman Ed Woodward, the former investment banker who will replace David Gill as chief executive this summer, has *insisted that there are no major recruitment plans.

But if Ferguson identifies a player who will make a difference, he expects to be backed with hard cash.

Ferguson has been trailing Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski for the past year, although the Pole will now cost much more than the £25m suggested following his *exploits in the Champions League.

Ferguson also retains an admiration for Modric after losing out to Real *Madrid last year when the midfielder left Tottenham.

The support of Gill was unwavering last *summer when Ferguson wanted Van Persie, even though buying a 29-year-old broke with the club’s *stated transfer policy.

Ferguson said of the former Arsenal striker, who cost United £24m: “Van Persie’s age was *certainly an issue *because it has not always worked when we have bought older players.

“David Gill said to me after we bought Dimitar Berbatov [from Tottenham for £30m] that we had to be careful when signing older players, but Van Persie was *different.

“He was phenomenal for Arsenal last season and so I was confident it would work.”

Meanwhile, Ferguson has few regrets – but failing to buy Frank Lampard still haunts the Manchester United manager.

Very interesting quotes.

All aboard the muppet train.

Let's rock out, with our cocks out!

This will definately be The Summer of Balenaldo, we will get both of them for sure.

It aint gonna happen and I joked about this too a few hours ago, but can you imagine the pure orgasmic ecstasy on the caf were we to actually bring in BOTH Bale and Ronaldo?

Kermit would be doing Miss Piggy from behind while the Cookie Monster and Elmo would be watching and wanking themselves into an onanistic delirium!

Fergie is going full muppet this summer. I can feel it.

probably just red meat for season ticket holders to renew..

who am I kidding Ronaldo's coming home! :D

To be fair, this is the first time Fergie has said that we are gonna buy big. So I'm not sure it's for ST Renewals.

The muppet season is well and truly on it's way. We'll know it's arrived when Fergie comes out and says he's happy with the current squad before Gill unveils his warchest and an ITK links us with Charlie Adam.

It's on. :boring:

This year, United will earn even bigger funds injection thanks to 20th title and countless sponsorship deals, not to mention a solid decreasing of a debt. It's a test for owners of this club.

In this moment Strootman, maybe Lewandowski or James Rodriguez sounds quite realistic, but if things go in the ultra muppet direction then who knows... Falcao ? Bale ? Ron... nah.

I would be reasonably happy with just Zaha and Gundogan but if more players will be available then why not, someone from absolute football top.

Bale, Ronaldo AND Falcao? Who's to say that's not possible?

If we got any of those big names, I feel this forum would crash. I remember how quickly the van Persie thread got populated. It was incredible!

Bale, Ronaldo AND Falcao? Who's to say that's not possible?

Falcao and Bale ? Well, there is a possibility after a long, hard negotiations.

Re-signing Ronaldo is more like a wild fantasy... muppet porn at it's best.

I won't believe it 'til Howard Nurse says there's nothing happening.

I think it goes like this:

Fergie will go all in for Ronaldo, and I think he'll get him. Real, knowing that Bale is out there, will do a deal for Ronaldo and bring in Bale for roughly an equivalent transfer fee. So that's that.

I don't think Fergie has any interest in Falcao. Instead, I put real stock in the Lewandowski rumors. He seems a natural for the English prem.

We'll see about the central midfielder, but I wouldn't past Fergie to go in for the boy at Everton, Ross Barkley.
