Muppet Watch 2013 Edition

I find it hilarious how one year ago we were thought to be poor now people seem to think we'll spend 50m+ on a player! WARCHEST

The thing I find funny about the WARCHEST is what the papers forget.... Wages.

Ferguson will be given £100m to spend this summer!

So we sign a £30m player, wages to match that tag of £150,000 a week over 5 years. That's £69m gone... Which is another player or two I'd you include wages.

Or... Is it two £50m players and another £70m in wages?

I always thought it was gooDe vil?

Ronaldo anyone?

I still say it's in the cards.

Do this, and we really don't need another acquisition. Of course, we'll have to see who Fergie dumps. I think it has to be at Ando and Nani at the very least. We may have to say goodbye to Fletcher. And even Scholes isn't a sure bet to come back. If I'm right -- and I'm usually wrong -- that's three central mids and a winger we're saying adios to.

So, it would make some sense to bring in a mid as well. Do we go full galactico or a promising whippersnapper? I have no idea.

Lastly, does Fergie sell Hernandez to Real (part of the deal with Ronaldo, perhaps)? If he does, then the door is open for Lewandowski.

The possibilities can give a muppet a full erection!

Gündogan and Bale. Its two areas we need improvement and both are the top talents to get. If only we had money

I woke up to news like these:

Dzeko to Dortmund. 22MP, or Reus in exchange.
De Bruyne to Dortmund. However, if Chelsea sells him to Dortmund, Leverkusen won't sell Schurrle to Chelsea
City wants David Villa.

Is it the deadline day already? :wenger:

The Telegraph have run with a weak as piss Manchester United transfer target section.

Conclusions are:

1. De Gea is now number one but Madrid might want to buy him, if so, then we are interested in the Stoke and Sunderland keeper.
2. Now might be the time for Baines to join as he is agitating for a move.
3. We are interested in Modric and N De Jong but it is likely that SAF will just 'shuffle' the existing squad and no purchases will be made.
4. We are interested in Lewandowski but the escalating price will likely put SAF off.

N De Jong? feck me. Modric is understandable but de Jong?

I actually think that De Jong could work here. If we sign Lewi and the team starts to shape up something like this

--------De Jong--------Carrick---------
---------------Rooney-----------------
---Lewandowski----------Bale----------
----------------RVP-------------------

I feel that with our insane attacking outlook that a player of De Jong's ilk would be very useful.

Rather keep playing Phil Jones there than sign De Jong tbh. He's not even getting regular game time at Milan.

So many better and younger destroyers around too.

Just for this thread:

In: Ronaldo, Bale, Bender, Bender, Zaha
Out: Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Fletcher

Wonder whether we are interested in bringing winger/Wide player if Nani leaves ?

Victor Fischer at Ajax has impressed me every time i've seen him. Similar sort of player to a Reus, if you like (Possibly more direct). Tall, Athletic, Quick and can run with the ball and a good finisher. We tried to sign him as a 16 year old IIRC, so we surely will be tracking him still.

Him, Bruma from Sporting and maybe possibly Draxler could be cheaper up coming wing options other than the 25 million + players that are often mentioned.

Doesn't Zaha fit into a similar category to Bruma and Fischer?

Fischer looks a special talent, I'd love it if we're looking at players like him.. Draxler I'm not so sure - a lot of his hype seems to just be riding the wave of excitement about young German talents. Haven't seen Bruma.

Yep, but still would leave us reliant on him on one side and on Valencia improving his form on the other side (Or Young).

Plan could be to keep playing Welbeck/Kagawa out wide more, i guess. Though not sure that was actually even the first choice plan for this season, seeing Hazard/Lucas pursuits.

Lewandowski's agent:

"I can tell you only one thing - Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future."

Not the thread for it but I'd love to see a list of all the midfielders the transfer gurus wanted us to buy in the last couple of years. You hear people talk about how we missed out on Javi Martinez or Vidal when they were clearly great options but you don't hear people talking about how we missed out on the likes of Tiote even though he was sure to be a great signing too...

Players can thrive or struggle depending on the team they are in, its always open for debate how well such and such would do for this club or that club.

I guess the question then becomes, does SAF see Zaha as a fine alternative to his Hazard and Lucas chases? In Hazard's case it's hard to imagine this to be true as Hazard was vastly more experienced at a higher level, but Zaha and Lucas could probably be comparable as regards to the level they have played at pre-transfer.

That's true but then it goes both ways. We could say that Vidal would've been the missing piece or we could say that we dodged a bullet by missing out on Modric for absurd money, all depends on your view/agenda really. I'm just saying that people are quick to remind us about the midfielders we missed out on while they happily gloss over Sahin and others. Maybe the reason we're tentative about buying these players is because regardless of price, quite a few of them haven't worked out. People were going crazy over the rumours we'll sign one of Sneijder, Nasri and Modric but look what's happened to them since then.

Yeah, the anguish over Sahin joining the dippers was amusing.

Munain was another player we absolutely positively had to sign or miss out on a megastar. Canales too. Whats he up to these days?

Thinking back, there as at least 2 others from that Athletic side we were apparently insane not to sign, although I can't remember their names.

fecking hell, remember when Charlie Adams was supposed to be the solution to all our woes?!?

Hmm, yes not a bad shout, Fischer has been quite decent the few times I've actually seen him play .. shouldn't be that expensive too..

To be fair to Canales the kid had 2 cruciate ligament injuries within close succession, no wonder that knocked the stuffing out of him. He is still looking pretty decent for Valencia though.
