Moyes To Succeed Ferguson Anyone?

Yeah but you have to remember times change. O'neill has been a good coach. You never know what he'd have done with a better squad. Queiroz? Lots of United fans wanted him too never mind Sir Alex.

O'neill has been a good coach? ...

O'Neill had been good (not exceptional) managing small-mid table clubs, when Fergie wanted him. Hmm.. sounds familiar. Hopefully this time, Fergie's choice won't turn out as bad as O'Neill.

I tell you what, not being old enough to remember this happening and seeing it over the years with our rivals, a situation like this really does bring out the bollocks in people.

We have laughed plenty over the years at other's reactions to new managers now some of us are being as bad!

Luckily, the only important opinions here are those of the people at the top of this hugely successful club, including the man who built us up again to this level, and they all think Moyes.

So whilst it might not be the most inspiring name for some, that's good enough for me and he has my support.

So you know something Sir Alex doesn't?

Whoever comes in as manager, players will join us because we are Man United. Mourinho may have a little extra pulling power, but on the whole people join football clubs, not football managers. So I wouldn't worry about Moyes from that perspective.

Same. The crazy thing is some of the most staunch defenders of all the things United are the ones being the most critical. These same people had huge issues with anybody having the smallest gripe with our performances last season. It simply was not allowed to have a negative thought.

He hasn't even fecking started yet!

I've woken up this morning with fresh optimism about the potential Moyes appointment.

Yes he's not the glamorous foreign manager that some of the muppets want to see but he is certainly the best choice if we are looking for another potential long term appointment to basically pick up where Fergie left off.

I'd also imagine that he will make the most out of the great man in his new role, I can't see SAF interfering when he is not needed/wanted but I can imagine the two Scots working together for the first few years.

My main concern about the appointment isn't whether Moyes is good enough but how he will be treated by the fans, I just pray that we don't do a Liverpoool with Hodgson or a Chelsea with Benitez, it will make us look just as pathetic as them after laughing at them for so long.

I'm not worried about that one bit. Many of us wouldn't have picked Moyes, but I'm certain everyone will be backing him. If results go wrong, than things may change, that's football for you and even Fergie wasn't immune. But United fans are certainly not going to do what Chelsea's did with Benitez. There's no comparison, really.

Debate over!

We now know how Sir Alex and co chose their man.

Moyes is the best man for Manchester United - says Football Manager 2013 simulation

Haha wow.

Who sanctions articles like that and thinks "good piece of football journalism, that"?

Of course reality probably looks more like this: "Any one got some shit about Moyes being new United manage to fill today's paper? No? feck now I have to take a break from playing football manager and I'm so close to winning the CL now that I got Ronnie and Messi, damn work. Wait a minute. Let's make a test in football manager on who is better, best idea ever, a paycheck well earned."

Fans main concern is whether he's good enough as manager of Manchester United. Fans are fickle, and easily won if they see their team winning games.

I'd prefer someone other than Moyes, but I will accept it IF...no signings from Everton please. Nothing there for United.

Are people not allowed to be concerned about who is replacing Ferguson?

fecking hell, you'd think the people questioning the potential appointment had organised a lynch mob or something.

Who knows? does he know anything about Hidegkuti, Overath, or Abate?

You're saying O'neill was a good coach. He was up until his wifes ill health. The fact is back then, we had a very strong united team. I think you do the man disservice. I wouldn't judge him from villa onwards. I don't think he gives that much of a shit like he used to

Agreed, mainly because Ferguson himself often went to Busby during his first few years for advice, guidance and a confidence boost. Ferguson knows United inside out, he built it, it would be foolish not to take advantage of that, especially in the first few seasons.

O'Neill was a good manager for small-mid table clubs. Never said he'd be good enough for United or other big teams.

Moyes inherits a great squad. Sir Alex still has a role at the club. Even if we signed a manager you wanted, there would be concerns. Concerns about our youth system. About various players cause they might want to bring their own in....There's always concerns. I seriously doubt moyes is going to change much

In fact the players have said Sir Alex has mellowed over the years. I like the fact Moyes has a temper and is hungry to win trophies. I'm personally glad he's not a vain twat who won't be talking shite about his future etc. Stop focusing on the negatives.

Why do you think other clubs supporters are delighted? They think we'll go down from here but these are the same players who just won the league. Who have lots of experience of playing under Sir Alex and I would like to think that won't be rubbed off quite so easily.

I think Baines is an upgrade on Evra, not Evra of 3 years ago, but Evra of the past 2 years.

Evra has been very good this season. Not last season but this past season he can contributed a lot offensively and defensively. We dont need another 29 year coming in when we have Fabio and Buttner fighting for the same spot as well.

He's only three years younger, and Evra had an excellent season. makes no sense to me.

I agree. If we deem Fabio and Buttner not good enough, fine, but let's not get a 28 year old for a full back position.

who knows? We'll never know and the fact is O'neills not been linked so it's irrelevent anyway.

Baines is probably the best left back in the Premier league at the moment. Evra had a good season in an attacking sense but his OAP defensive flaws are still there for all to see. We also have no real cover there. I rate Fabio but he is not a sure bet and Buttner is not the answer.

Again Nev it's the pathetic crying and whinging that makes them look like muppets. People who admit in one post they haven't seen a lot of Everton and then in the next post maintain that they play nothing but hoof football.

Honestly, the guy is our new manager. People need to start getting on board or at least show a modicum of respect in their criticisms.

Neither Baines nor Evra are going to be happy sitting on the bench. Its not like Evra is 36 and cant play. He still plays a lot of games for us and I prefer Evra to Baines especially after Evra improved his performances this season. Just stick with Evra and gives young players like Fabio and Buttner a chance to grow instead of splashing £15m on a position we dont need more covering.

Not saying he isn't hungry to win trophies, but interested to know what you're basing that on. I mean, assuming you mean over and above the hunger anyone in football has for trophies. Are we going on the fact he's never actually won one? So, like, a man who has never eaten will be hungrier than a man who had breakfast? Because I'm not sure it works like that.

I see no reason to believe he is any more or less hungry for trophies than, say, Martinez, or anyone else.

Heh, I remember reading a quote from a journalist or ex player or something saying that "Moyes is a born winner".

He's never won anything...

TBF Time wont change your view. Only results will.

I don't know, I thought I'd wake up this morning to some brave new world... a journey into the unknown if you will. True, this may have been shaped by having watched the new Star Trek film, but still...

To be fair, I've found the best way to get on board with Moyes is defending the appointment against ABU's talking nonsense (He's a totally crapp manager innit)... which I had to do a bit of last night.

I think the main point is that someone saying 'yuck, no everton players they're all shit' is clearly bullshit when there's a fair debate over a few of their players.

I'm saying no Everton players because I don't think we need any, not because they are "shit".

Baines is too old per the United policy and is a full back, not a striker (RVP).

Fellaini is not the type of centre midfielder that we should be going for.

As far as general signings go, I'd like to see Modric (possible) or Gundogan (unlikely) and that's enough for me.

Just because Moyes is coming in, doesn't mean he has to bring Everton players to United.

Nice in theory, but it would be an unnecessary expense to get him in before the end of the season.

Bill Kenwright would not stand in his way if he wanted to end the contract a little early.

I have said it loads already, I dont see Fergie travelling to WBA
