Moyes To Succeed Ferguson Anyone?

Moyes has earned the job and I think has the right mentality for this particular post.

His problem is that he'll be constantly compared to Fergie, and whether it's him or somebody else, those are some huge shoes SAF's successor will have to fill, I don't envy that.

Id prefer Ole then Moyes. At least the former has won some serious honours with us and know United inside out

I think Moyes has the potential to be a great manager. He's never had a pot to piss in whilst at Everton, yet he's got them within sniffing distance of a CL spot. Excellent at spotting talent from the lower divisions, or from lesser clubs. He'll no doubt be able to continue that, but will have the added bonus of having a massive transfer kitty, as, & when, required. He's very dignified & humble, so he'll be a great ambassador for Manchester United in the eyes of the media. IMO, a better option than the egotistical Jose - 'it's all about me' - Mourinho. Who would probably feck off to Chelsea after a couple of years. You know, just for the hell of it.

how on earth has he earned the job? He hasnt won anything yet. He rarely won against the big guys and his tactics against us consisted of long ball football.

He's too young and unproven. Do you think some players will take him as their boss ?

Will be weird.

It will be weirder having a manager who had only watched the CL from his sitting room.

Said last night one thing that concerned me is that in 10 years he failed to win Evertons biggest game of the season playing Liverpool away, leaves question marks on if he's able to get the players up for the big games.

We need someone for the long haul. Someone who will grow into the job just like Fergie did and give us stability. I have a sinking feeling though that the Glazers will go for a big name like Mourinho because of the share price. And he would only stay for 3 years.

Meh, Klopp hadn't till last season either and is in the final this year.

Dortmund are not Manchester United and you only have to watch Dortmund/Everton play for 5 minutes to conclude that Moyes is not Klopp

Have to agree, someone who learnt his trade from Fergie, has been doing a pretty decent job as a first team manager and comes out with things like this:

“His methodology has influenced my philosophy. Almost everything I know I learnt from Sir Alex.

“Both of us believe in ourselves, we always want to win and we put our faith in youngsters and work hard.”

“To succeed Sir Alex you need to have a strong personality and be a winner.”

Definitely doesn't fit in the "quick-fix" manager category either.

Aye Klopp took over Dortmund when they were 13th, completely different situation.

So all signs are pointing towards Moyes.

I hope our fanbase and this forum show him support and give him some time before judging him. Somehow I doubt that.

Not just Liverpool away. For over 10 years, he failed to beat any of the old 'big 4' away from home in the league. Read that and weep.

Whoever takes the job will always be compared to Fergie. Every manager bar one would hate being compared to him. Mourinho would thrive on it and take it as compliment and not a hindrance.

Dortmund were in a more precarious position than Everton when Klopp took them over. Yet within 3 years he's given them 2 league titles and a CL final.

Yes, the Bundesliga isnt as competitive as the EPL, but its still a telling contrast.

There's nothing wrong in judging him. We are human and whenever something new comes in a judgement is made.

What we shouldn't do is make him feel unwelcome at Old Trafford, no booing even if we're losing.

I don't expect great things in the Moyes era but he would deserve a couple of years at least.

Moyes is a fine manager and he's done very well with the resources available to him at Everton. Though he could be a good manager for United, hiring someone like him seems like such an anticlimatic way to do things after Fergie is done.

We all knew he would retire sooner or later, but I guess most of us was hoping to have our pick amongst the very best managers in the game, rather than going for boring, ol' Moyes. He might turn out to be a good manager for us, but it's simply nothing to get excited about which I feel is something we need when Fergie is gone.

He reminds me of Fergie when he took over. I think he will grow into the job and prove to be a success. Mourinho would try to get another PL and CL trophy on his cv and then b***** off back to Portugal.

And who would care about the next manager only being around 3 years? For the most part that's how football works! Ferguson was the exception.

Moyes under the tutelage of SAF. I don't see a problem in that. Being the director, Fergie can regularly help the next manager wrt transfer dealings, etc. Do you people really think Jose would have liked to work like that?

I've resigned myself to the fact that it is. If we are moving this quick, its Moyes. Mourinho would be a drawn out transaction.

They have just said on Sky that negotiations with the next manager have been ongoing for some time.

Mourinho was pictured buying storage boxes in Ikea yesterday, but then again Moyes has not signed a new contract. So who knows.

My main concern with Moyes is the immediate pressure he will be under.

Mourinho has earned himself a grace period through previous success. If success is not immediate his position will not instantly be under threat. Moyes does not have that luxury. I'm sure the club would support him, but it does make his job that much harder.

Exactly. With some managers they ooze a winning mentality. Moyes does not have this imo.

The bottom line is that you need the players. I am going to support Moyes but the appointment makes me nervous. I don't really watch too much of Everton but they are not exactly renowned for their exciting or progressive style.

Mourinho will leave Madrid at the end of season anyway, I think he'll go to Chelsea though.

I don't know about Moyes. When Mourinho leaves Madrid you can be sure as hell they won't be looking at Moyes. Spurs last year also opted for another manager and Chelsea won't go for Moyes as their new manager either in all likelihood. He's been linked with us a lot but I'd prefer it if we went for someone slightly more experienced at winning - Ancelotti, Mourinho, Klopp. Moyes hasn't won a single trophy in his career.

All the Glazers care about is the share price.

If that's the case they won't hire someone incompetent to manage the team, whether it's Moyes or Jose in charge of United the Glazer would have thought long and hard about it. feck this up and it could set the club back a few years.

I worry that United will make the same mistake that they made when Busby retired. He went upstairs but still had massive influence over the team selection/ signings.
