Moyes To Succeed Ferguson Anyone?

Thanks Ash. That's a telling piece of information for those who wish to dismiss Moyes achievements at Everton.

No worries. Yeah I'm surprised some are underplaying it so much. He's consistently exceeding expectations based on resources, there are plenty who have the odd season where they do really well, but very few who continually do well.

The other way of looking at it is if he fails at a new job, that's his chance gone. Big risk if he picks the wrong job.

This way, it's relatively low risk and all he has to do is impress behind the scenes.

Maybe. But if he's going to fail I'd prefer him to do it elsewhere.

feck feck feck no. :( :(

Not the Moyes part but Sir Alex retiring part.

Sources telling me various United officials have been told to prepare for interviews. Major networks have cleared air time. #SAF

Any sources quoted of just normal shite?

Pretty much just normal shite.
As rumours of the 71-year-old’s imminent retirement swept Manchester, senior figures at the club failed to respond to repeated attempts to confirm or deny the story, which emerged following United’s player versus coaches golf day at Dunham Massey on Tuesday afternoon.

Translation: One or two players/staff members laughed when asked if Fergie is about to retire.

Something definitely seems to be brewing though.

He'd be under pressure to prove himself at such a level as well as meet expectations of the club and the fans. Other people have already proven themselves at our level and so wouldn't have that added pressure.

feck off Moyes. Totally unproven and not good enough.

Moyes is a top candidate. He has alot of potential.. However it's not time for Fergie to leave yet. I think we need one more season from him.

Whenever and whoever the next manager, they deserve our full support. The last thing we need is cnuts waiting to jump on them.

Negativity will not help. Get over yourselves.

he's won feck all. Agreed with second point. Please don't retire yet fergie :(

Put it this way. If Moyes was to join Chelsea or Arsenal I would consider them an improved threat. So he can't be that bad.

It may look a bit embarrassing if either it's all bullshit about Moyes or he gets the job and the initial response from the Caf' is complete and utter negativity.

So why's it been opened back up? ;) :smirk:

Why was the thread closed?

There's already three other threads talking about Sir Alex retiring and that's the way this one was going too. This one should be for talk about Moyes and nothing else.

I hope if this Fergie rumour turns out to be true that Moyes is not the choice to replace him, I just don't see him as a guy who can drive us on in Europe.

I just read the dailymail article about Moyes becoming an understudy for a year.
The bit that did catch my eye were the stats at the bottom of the story, Fergies win percentage over 800 games sits at 65% which is quite brilliant. I bet no other manager at the top level who has managed for a decent number of games has a win percentage anywhere near that.

Don't see any manager that has been a boss for 12 years in their own right being a no.2 to someone.

Moyes may be a top candidate but I don't think this is the right time for him. We've just won the premier league and we need to make some minor tweaks to bring us up another level. We have a young squad which Fergie knows very well. We're also trying to make some headway with the Champions League. Moyes has basically no experience in Europe whatsoever. The time for Moyes to come is when he'll have time to bed in and manage the side how we would like. And the big caveat is, he would be replacing Fergie! I think there is way too much pressure at this moment for Moyes to be our next manager. We'd be taking a step backwards and that's no slight on him. It's just that Manchester United is a completely different proposition to Everton.

Fergie had no experience at all in Europe when he took over Aberdeen.

Do Aberdeen have the same expectations as Manchester United?? Did you not see when Fergie said he thinks the next manager should have a lot of European experience?

So we're going to sack the number 2 we already have to make way for someone who's been a number 1 for over 12 years, 10 of which at a decent and established Premier League club? Didn't think so.

Aberdeen is a completely different proposition to Manchester United however. Moyes' biggest mistake for me was his refusal to go abroad and enhance his European reputation that way.

He is perfect for Glazernomics though, as he is proven in the Premier League and would get us to top4 consistently which is what the coffers would want. However the fans would disagree.

what is everyones obsession with foreign managers?

How does British football ever improve if everyone continues to think that foreign managers are somehow better?

Exactly, really pisses me off, as a few others have joked if David Moyes was named something like Diego Moyes and was from Balenthia, there'd be no malarky.
