Moyes: "There's no budget" | Moyes told that he can spend as much as he likes

fecking hell Pete, are you actually making non WUM reasoned posts?

Difficult to say - Guardiola and Mourinho didn't want to come by all accounts (though neither look like long-term club builders in the Man Utd tradition). Moyes is probably the best of the Brits but I don't think that's saying much. He has a poisoned chalice though, as soon as results dip the knives will be out pronto pronto.

Whatya on about for Pete sake - sure we had our first loss already against those part-timers / painting & decorators, from Bangkok on Saturday & we all took that well... :)

It's been a couple of weeks and people are reaching for their sheaths already.

The ABUs feel that Ferguson last great hurrah was to push a poor Man Utd side over the line in a season where their competitors shot themselves in the feet/head/bollox. They don't see Moyes repeating the feat and doubt he's got what it takes to rebuild.

It's fantastic that they see it like that to be honest, I think it's the perfect setting for a new manager.

If we'd gone high profile and got a Mourinho, Ancelotti or Guardiola, the non-united fan would expect us to be absolutely serious and still being the top dog. Expecting a manager to fail adds some lee-way to prove himself.

If we do go on and win the league next season, there can't be any excuses about the United squad (unless the Daily Mail are right and we're going in for Ronaldo/Bale, i know we're not but you get my point), nor can they discredit David Moyes. It's a very interesting set up for a new manager because whilst he's filling the biggest boots in the world of sport, if people are expecting him and United to fail, he can really make a name for himself with a bit of success.

What I think he really needs (not what I'm desperate for) is what they call a 'marquee' signing to inject some confidence into the fans and get the media on his side. If he ends up going for a 'no value in the market' routine, he'll be crucified. It'll be a very interesting few weeks before the season begins, just to see where Moyes stands with the fans and the media based on his signings.

I'm shitting it over the new season! I've only ever known Fergie so this is an unknown quantity of a season for me.

And agree with the person who said the knives will be out. Look at what some people were saying after the first friendly game and after the Thiago saga. People will be all over Moyes as soon as he drops points this season.

Ah, pity you werent around for big Ron Atkinson - the "Swiss Tony" of football management :D

I really am appalled at a huge swathe of our "support" I thought we would be better than fans from the plastic teams as a whole but no we have our clueless fecking keyboard monkeys who wouldn't know a football if it smacked them upside their fat heads. Avoid this site and twitter like a plague after DM loses his first league game because it will be snowed under by tons of plastic cnuts the likes of which we have never seen on here before.

 The problem is I can see him losing 4 or 5 out of the first 10. Muppets on the starboard bow at warpfactor 9.

What did you expect? Football brings out the worst idiocy in people and we have such a huge fan base that we are bound to have more than our fair share.

Not to mention the fact we've been spoilt rotten.

It shouldn't be tolerated. Id ban every drama queen rat bastard among them if I was in charge. I can't abide people who wont give someone a chance.

I can see you losing 3/4 out of the first 5. Moyes will be hung, drawn and quartered after Liverpool away.

As regards to marquee signings, thats not a luxury - we genuinely need a proven world-class central mid-fielder or two, & thats got feck all to do with appeasing the fans either, but it sure will though. We'll could get our arses whooped in mid-field this season if we dont achieve atleast one or two recognised world-class CM signings.

God forbid if Carrick got injured & we've no like-for-like or similiar player to fill in that role & it does my nut in when i hear "player availability" nonsense too. Money talks (within reason of course), so pick up the phone & tell Juve we'll give them €37m for Vidal - the same as Real have reportedly offered during this week or late last week!

OK. Big disappointment but life moves on. So what can we expect from this transfer window? Should we buy a young upcoming talent or should we go for world class. We need improvement, that's for sure.

Khedira and Modric? Bale? Some Italian player? Very hard to predict what's in front of us.

A part of me want Modric but my gut feeling says we buy a young uproven talent. After listening to Moyes and read his comment I don't think he has confidence enough to go for world class players. I hope he proves me wrong.

As far as I can see all the top top young midfield talents are already bought or settled. Both Ando and Clev is quite good so to improve we need something extra. But who's this player?

 You are a prophet with an attitude. Love it. There are already monkeys on twitter not happy with Moyes letting Thaigo go. :wenger:

Anyone But United.

It's a term to describe most football fans who support clubs in the top 6 that aren't United. It's when you get to love your club but the bitterness goes beyond that and you just spout anti-United crap every chance you get. We've got a fair few of them doing it on another board I visit. United misses a transfer target and it ends in world peace. Ferguson leaves and there is a 2 month long community music festival in honor of that glorious day (no United fans invited).

Just to be pedantic, ABU has never referred to supporters of just top 6 clubs. West Ham are one of the most fervently ABU clubs when it comes to their supporters.

Clubs who've won the league recently aren't real ABUs, they want to win it for themselves. Spurs would be classic ABUs if they didn't have Man Utd to thank for us not adding to our championship tally.

There's is more a traditional rivalry mixed in with City's bitterness at being essentially a Division 1 club while United were dominating the 90s/2000s.

ABU was a term that to me represented fans of clubs who had no direct reason to dislike United but had a considerable dislike for the club anyway. West Ham was the example for me because their fans genuinely hate United even though they've got plenty of London clubs they could focus on. It was also usually used for fans of smaller clubs in the 90s who would sing "Stand up if you hate Man Utd" at England matches.

Glaston was jokin man & you bit. Of course he knows what ABU means, the feckin cheeky wumming wanker :D

I do remember those chants. Perhaps they were 'fed up' with us winning and they would have done the same regardless of who is winning? Nature of the beast sort of thing.

I'd consider Maureeniho a risk & Moyes the safe bet to be honest. Moyes would take a massive interest in all the players at all levels, Maureeniho wouldnt bother his arse & would probably have wanted about £200m warchest too - Moyesy just wants a few loan deals & a new kettle for the new office at Carrington or whatever the feck they call it now. Is the bog roll even sponsored there aswell?

No, the "safe" bet would have been Mourinho. The man a serial trophy collector and conquered England before. He would likely have attracted crazy feck talent and brought in at least two or three prem trophies and perhaps on CL trophy. "Likely", as we will never know. But past performance does have something to say about future performance.

It's an open question, however, as to whether Moyes was the smarter bet. Only time will tell whether he's the next Wenger or the next Benitez. There will not be another Ferguson, at least not in our lifetimes.

ABU's are not club lead - some have a higher percentage of haters than other clubs of course. Mostly though, they're just ordinary supporters of other teams that hate United in a similiar way Liverpool were hated back in the 70's & 80's. Its not whole supporter groups or any shit like that - just football fans that have to hate successful teams with huge finances also. I cant stand Barca or Real but not because of their success, but because of the superiority complex that they have. Some ABU's actually seem to hate United more than they love their own clubs - Liverpool & City fans are top of that sad list.

Envy can have lot to do with it as regards to our success & profile in world football, but much of that hate really goes back to our past hooligan problems in the 70's. "The Red Army" were a bunch of United hooligan nutjobs that wreaked havoc up & down the Country & with our away support being massive, we used to have more fans in the ground than the home support on many occasions.

Many top-flight clubs had firms, but The Red Army were the largest firm back in the mid-70's & took no prisoners. The sheer size of our firm made us pretty frightening bastards throughout the land & if ever you needed a reason to hate a club - that was it. That hatred stuck & was passed on to future generations - down the family tree so to speak!

Liverpool fans have this deluded fantasy that The Red Army was the first firm in English football & that we started the whole shit. They also blame us for the fencing that was erected at grounds & the segregation of both sets of fans too. Deluded feckers :wenger:

Liverpool fans used to runamuck when they played in Europe in the 70's & 80's. They were notorious for going ape-shit while away in European competitions. Pool fans were also the best dressed English firms at the time because during this running-amuck lark in Europe - they used to break into shops if they were closed or just pile in & rob the clothes shops blind if they were open.

You couldnt buy the same clobber in England, unless it was from selected London designer shops, but the ordinary fan couldnt afford it anyway, until Italian brands etc became much more widespread & cheaper in the UK, which then all the firms pranced around like it was a fashion parade - comparing their gear with other firms before they bashed the shit outta each other. Nutters!

I think moyes needs to hit the right note with his signings and that could possible dictate how smoothly the rest flows. In the long run its simple. If he's good enough he'll do we'll, if he isn't be won't. But in the short run, I'm not sure he can get us over the line with the midfield we currently have like fergie did (albeit with a bit of help from city being terrible). So the transfer window is the first important step.

Once that is done and dusted, it's about how he sets us up and how he gets us to play.

Its all a matter of opinion at the end of the day, but Maureeniho always seems to bring trouble with him. He seems to be hated in Italy & now Spain - they cant hack his arrogant behaviour & they've good cause aswell, especially the hate complex he created at Real with Barca. It was always a feisty affair but when he landed the old hostilities started up again, with massive divisions amongst Real & Barca players in the Spanish National side!

I like the manner in which Moyes is handling himself, he's like a kid in a sweet shop & i still dont think its sunk in yet how far he's come. Its so refreshing to hear him talk about takin over from Fergie - so honest & thrilled about the job & the challenge he has ahead. I'm glad we've takin a punt on him & i think he'll do well, but he needs to get a few world-class players in or players bordering on that level before the window closes, or the pressure will be on him from the media & from certain sections of our lot!

As regard to being the "next Wenger / Benitez" - he'll be neither. He's the one & only Davy Moyesy :D

He's not hated here in Italy. In fact, he's revered by the fans and most people I know love him because he helped Italian football quite a lot by winning the CL in '10. Fans root for his teams against other opposition. He left quite a mark in the short time he was here.

After the Thiago-thread, I'm now reluctant to anything related to transfers. I'll just sit back and let things happen. Much like my trip to Thailand.

I think that Moyes will fall to the natural temptation of bringing in his own players. Moving to such a big club is a daunting experience and Moyes will want to surround himself with people who can rely on. Guardiola did the same with Thiago and SAF with Jimmy Leighton.

Whether Everton has the player we need to sort our problems in key positions such as CM remains to be seen.

Hope not. The players are of the necessary quality. I'd expect moyes to go for better players.

We should test the waters with a £40 million bid for Bale.

Even if it were to get rejected it would make other European teams sit up and take notice. Whether we got him or not it would be a statement of intent that we were actively trying to sign the best players around.
