Moutinho

Is this still on the cards for Spurs?

Seems like a logic option for replacing Modric

Tottenham Hotspur have dropped their interest in signing Porto's Joao Moutinho because the Portugal midfielder is too expensive, the Premier League club's new manager Andre Villas-Boas said.

Spurs are looking to replace playmaker Luka Modric, who is likely to join Real Madrid later this month, but Moutinho is not an option despite having worked under Villas-Boas at Porto.

"The level of expectation of Porto over (the price) is difficult," Villas-Boas told reporters at the Tottenham training ground ahead of Saturday's league opener at Newcastle United.

"Porto sell expensive but they sell a good product. They have pride in defending that kind of ground."

Asked if Spurs would be able to sign Moutinho, Villas-Boas added: "No I think it's very difficult."

I would guess nothing short of 30m€.

Though that may change with the approaching end of the transfer window. We need to sell every season to break even and we haven't sold Hulk yet, which was the primary target. So that might force us to go easier in other deals... I hope not, I love Moutinho, would rather see Hulk go.

Gill wasn't even at the press conference yesterday, he was discussing terms with RVP's agent. BTW you get your news from Twitter?

He said on American TV, at the time of the IPO, that we wanted to sign a 'few' players before the close of the window.

Correct, but he wasn't present at the PC yesterday and hence can't have said he was going to sign "one more player" - which IMO is a clear statement, one that suggests that a player will definitely be signed. "We want to sign a few players" is rather more vague.

I'd rather we sign him than RvP for example. I hope we still have a chance of landing his signature, although I find it hard to believe.

Can people just stop saying I would rather we didnt sign RVP, because the reality is we are signing him and he's now a united player lets move on to the next one please and forget about all this RVP bollocks some of you's are ungrateful fecks.

If you are season ticket holders I hope you drop them into a lit fireplace by accident.

Plus its a Moutinho thread, if ya wanna talk RVP head to said thread an do it there FFS..

How much is Porto looking for?

Probably £25M, which Spurs have after the sale of Modric. However they won't spend that much on Moutinho, becasue they are a selling club.

They only sign a player if they can relistically recoup more money 3 or 4 years down the line, by that time Moutinho would be 29, and no huge sell on value, so no go. If he was 21 now, they would buy him probably, with the sole intention of flogging him for a healthy profit later. They are like a pawn shop.

I don't think we need a player like Moutinho. I would rather keep faith with Anderson, Cleverly, Powell and wait for the likes of Lingard, Petrucci, Januzaj, etc.
What I think we are missing is a player similar to Hargreaves, a true ball winner. The only player we have in the youth and reserves similar to that type is Tunnicliffe.

I was merely saying that if I had the choice to choose between 1 of them it would be Moutinho hands down. No doubt in my mind that RvP is the better player of the two, but at the same time there's no doubt that Moutinho is the type of player that would suit our "needs" more at a time like this.
I'm done being negative about the transfer, the only reason there's any negativity in the first place is because everyone knows other areas are in need of a "gap stop" and it's not being adressed (atleast to the public), well that and the thought of Welbeck and particularly Chicharito getting less playing time on the field, but they're both very young and I'm guessing that in 3 years we'll be looking to move RvP on unless he really delivers.
I'm happy that a world class player like himself is ours, just that if we got a midfielder or a left back it would generaly "help us" more, especialy in case of an injury or 2, although hopefuly we'll have better luck than last year.
Make no mistake that I will fully be cheering him on as he's our player now.

25m? Who will that be?

SAF: "No, I think it's maybe one other position, but we've spent a big bit of money and if I need to go to the Glazer family then I am sure they would say yes but it's only if a certain player was, became available then we would take it."

moutinho, ukelele, siggy is a pretty decent addition to a club the level of spurs.

Dembele?

And you left out Vertonghen. Those 4 plus making Adebayor's loan move permanent is a pretty fantastic summer for Spurs. Question is who else is following Modric out the door. Unless it's Bale, I think they'll be stronger this season than last. On paper, at least.

Honestly can't see Spurs paying the amount Porto wants for Moutinho. Tbh Spurs are also a step down from Porto.

Think you'll be surprised. They're going to make some decent signings in 48 hours time. Remy will be an excellent signing for them, if they can get Moutinho as well and a young goalkeeper then they're suddenly looking very strong again.

I like Tottenham, so this is good new - they never win against us anyhow, so if they can steal some points from City and Chelsea, I say wonderful!

Let's see mate. If they manage to sign Lloris, Remy and Moutinho, it'll be in excess of 50m Pounds. Plus all of them will be in comfortably in the wage bracket of 75k/week. I'm not sure if Spurs will sign all three of them.

Lloris looks to be a done deal, they also have bids in for Willian aswel as Moutinho who I think with the way theyve played it so far will end up coming to them for about 25mil. Would cerainly be a serious summers shopping for them if they pull all these off.

Set to sign for Spurs in the next 24hrs.
